Honestly, I'm not surprised. With all the focus he's been putting on his solo stuff, it was bound to happen sooner or later. I just hope the new guy can bring the same kind of feel to their new stuff that Frusciante did. He is without a doubt the best guitarist RHCP has ever had.

Yeah, I heard about this last week. Kind of sucks since he was by far my favourite member of that group.

I hope the new album to supposedly come within the next year or so doesn't suck without him. Guess we will see.

New guitarist officially announced.

I'm optimistic about the dude. I mean, he's played with Frusciante before and working with Beck and Gnarls Barkley is nothing to be sneezed at either.

When I think guitar prowess, I think Gnarls Barkley too.

I meant at least the dude isn't some schmo with absolutely nothing going for him. He's played with a couple mainstream acts.

No daylight, I'm too weak to face it!
Bands as established as these kats are usually power plants. They already have a working system in place and a new musician coming it would have a harder time failing than succeeding. He would have to be REALLY whack in order to take their quality down since they already have producers and engineers in their camp that have perfected their sound.

Take Trujillo when he joined Metallica. He had a role and he played it. While it can be argued that their music quality has dropped over the years, Trujillo would not be to blame. His playing is a part of a well established system.

DC has a band that's like this. They only have one original member left in the group since they started in '77. Now, they still have their signature sound even with all their pieces changing several times over the years. They are a machine.

Good input. I never looked at it like that.

And RHCP has been like that for years. Kiedis and Flea are the only original members, and they've changed guitarists several times (including Frusciante leaving the band and returning later). My thing is that this is the RHCP that I grew up with. I love older RHCP, but I got into the band with Californication, so Kiedis, Flea, Chad, and Frusciante are the guys I've grown accustomed to. I mean, it'd be different if Flea had quit, because their sound relies so much on his style, but I'm sure new dude will do fine.
