Wandering back out of the wilderness

Soo... after, what, 9 months or so away I decided to return home like the prodigal son. Honestly, I don't exactly remember why I left the last time, if it was a comment, the constant board relocations (I think this was why, but who knows), or what. All I know is that I was burnt out. I was still stressed over the wedding, stressed over the job situation and I had put too much of myself into the board and the community and was burnt out. I wasn't exactly in the best place a lot of the time and a lot of that probably spilled over to here.

So, I'm back now. I missed the community. I was getting PSN names on Facebook (more on that later) and it made me nostalgic. I've noticed that feeling more and more frequently of late, so I decided to dip in and see how things were going.

So yeah, so for this post is far more serious than I had intended. I don't know what sort of residue feelings there may towards me and when I left though, so I figured I should address it.

ANYWAY. So in the time abroad, I've found a job. I'm working for a local school system as an assistant to the Speech and Language program, floating between a couple of elementary schools. It's nothing I want to do past this year or, at longest next, but it gets the bills paid until I figure out what I'm doing with my life. And hey, at least it's a break from like 8 months of constant applications.

Sarah (tea) and I are doing well. We've got our own place, which is pretty cool. The apartment itself is really nice (it's only a couple years old) even if the neighborhood is not really the best place. The other day we had a shrimp robbery (yup) and people regularly spill out into the parking lots shouting each other down.

As far as interests, I've gotten a PS3 recently. As in, this past week. So that's pretty exciting. I've been playing Prince of Persia pretty solidly since I bought it. I like it. It's a mix of Sly Cooper 1 (not the lackluster sequels), Okami and a dash of Shadow of the Colossus (yes, I'm aware I wasn't the hugest fan of 2 of those games, lol). I did start up Little Big Planet this afternoon and that game oozes charm out of every pore.

Music-wise, 2009 is the new 2007. This year blows. Luckily, I've switched to Amazon MP3 so I've only spent like $3-4 on most new CDs I've bought. Unluckily, I picked up a new hobby that channels that saved money and more. I've gotten really, really big into comics in the past 6 months. As in dropping over $100 a month on the hobby. Geoff Johns is running my life right now.

Soo, yeah, there it is. I'm back, for now at least. Kudos if you made it through all that text. What's been up with y'all in the interval?

We got puppies, they are currently fighting in the living room now, still in school been taking pretty light schedules. It's cold and actually snowed the other day.

Canadians prefer the term snowphibian now.

Ooo you should get demon's souls.

Things here seem to be as they always have the relocations shook some others loose too, but mostly every still checks in regularly.

Glad to hear things are going okay....shrimp robbery ?

lol, for some reason some images don't get scaled down when viewing the site of the ps3 browser like like the flash there, turns the text field into one word lines.

From my Facebook update on the shrimp situation:

"We're live on the scene of the Great Shrimp Heist. Earlier this evening a local businessman and his partner were going door to door peddling shrimp when they were robbed outside a local apartment complex.

As they knocked on doors, some residents were reluctant to let him in. Some went so far as to deadbolt their door against the crazy man in the hat standing through the peephole.

Other residents decided to take another route. While the salesmen were moving through the building, they decided to go into the back of the salestruck and steal bags of shrimp from the giant cooler.

When the two shrimp entrepreneurs noticed what had happened, they were livid. A shouting match ensued across the parking lot. "I'mma bring my people back here and there's gonna be a beatdown. You $^%&ed with the wrong mother%*#er! This is how I make my living!" As the two partners drove off, they yelled one final, "I'mma be back with my people!!"... See More

Developments to follow."

And keep in mind when I say "salesman" I mean "crazy guy" and "salestruck" I mean "cooler in the back of the dude's pickup."

As to the image thing, eep. I'll fix that.

It's nice to have you back buddy. I'm glad to hear that things are going well for you and your wife. This site sure has missed some conversation since you've been gone, but things are picking up again already, so you've come back at pretty much the perfect time; TSL just came back a little while ago too!

As for me, it's pretty much the same old thing, though my car will finally be paid off next month (after all these years) and this will allow me to become debt free rather quickly. Once that happens, I'm expecting some big changes in my life, but that probably won't start until about the middle of the year if everything goes to plan. Also, I've been on a gaming streak lately (four games complete in a row), so I think that's quite an achievement considering my reputation.

Anyways, It's good to have you back!

Good to see you back, big fella. I made a thread in GD relatively recently about what's going on with me, so feel free to give that a look. You really need to get some PS3 titles that matter, though.

TFM- What 4 games?

Weidle- I'm still waiting to hear what PS3 games matter more than Little Big Planet and Metal Gear Solid 4. :whatever:

Um... Persona PSP, Borderlands, Modern Warfare 2, Katamari Forever (nearing the end, it's a background game). I am PLaying Demon's Souls now, and this game will be finished as well, because I love it! I'm on a roll and I'm trying to keep up the momentum.

As for PS3 games to get; Demon's Souls is one of the finest RPGs (and hardest games) I've ever played, it's excellent. There is also Disgaea 3, Gran Turismo 5, Valkyria Chronicles, Mirror's Edge, and many more. Not to mention that next year will be the best year for the PS3 yet, with Final Fantasy XIII, Star Ocean: Last Hope Int'l, White Knight Chronicles, Heavy Rain, God of War III, ModNation Racers, etc...

Where dreams come to come true.
Good to have you back, nate.

This year has been dreadful musically. Since this summer, it's just been, nothing.

Not a lot going on for me. Dealing with a crappy music year by coming around to some old records, going to some meh shows, hanging out with some girls, learning the finer points of beer, and reading a lot more.

For PS3, Valkyria Chronicles is heaven in a video game box, but Disgaea 3 blows. Don't even go there.

Welcome back, dude! I got your PSN friend request yesterday. LBP is a fun game but I don't really play it anymore unless I have friends over. It is a great party game.

Even though 2009 hasn't been a good music year, the music board still needs some new posts, so get to work! :P

Demon's Souls- Never gonna happen. I am WAY too casual for a game like that.

Disgaea 3 is on my list of eventual buys and Sarah's actually checking a GS in Richmond while she's out shopping for Valkyria Chronicles for me today since the ones here don't have it.

And best believe I know about FFXIII coming. It getting a release date was 90% of the reason I bought a PS3 when I did. I knew I was going to want one to death when that hit and I wasn't going to get a better deal than over Thanksgiving where I got the new Ratchet & Clank and LBP: GOTY for free. :D

White Knight Chronicles is on the "wait and see list." I loved Rogue Galaxy, but I've heard mixed reviews about this one. GoW3 is a definite purchase, but probably not at $60. Star Ocean will never come in this house though. I've learned my lesson with tri-Ace.

Right now I have LBP: GOTY, R&CF: CiT, Prince of Persia and Metal Gear Solid 4. Valkyria Chronicles is gonna be bought soon as I find a $20 copy at GS (may check the one near work Tues if it wasn't in Richmond). The first R&CF is an insta-buy if I don't get it for X-mas. My list of to-buy games is:

PS3
Resistance 1-2
Disgaea 3
Valkyria Chronicles
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune 1-2
Eternal Sonata
Tales of Vesperia
Fallout 3
Batman: Arkham Asylum
Devil May Cry 4
Katamari Forever

PSN
Braid
Marvel v. Capcom 2
Prince of Persia Classic
Ratchet and Clank Future: Quest for Booty
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Crash Bandicoot
Spyro the Dragon
Suikoden
Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee
Flower
Bionic Commando Rearmed
Fat Princess

Some are definite purchases lik if ToV ever makes it over, but others are if I'm in the mood ones like the Uncharted games.

I want A Crack in Time so badly, but I already bought Uncharted 2 and MW2 recently so I'm not going to get it anytime soon unless it goes on sale or something.

As for those other games on your list of "to-buy" games, I've played a few of them. Here's what I think if you're interested:

•Resistance 1: Standard FPS experience, nothing special. Sort of halflife-like but with some crazy weapons.
•Uncharted series: A lot of fun, but neither one was worth 60 bucks imo. Best looking games I have ever played though. Graphics usually don't enhance games much for me, but DAMN these games look AMAZING.
•Fallout 3: Good game. I was hooked for 40+ hours. I still prefer Oblivion though, that had me hooked for 50+ hours.
•MvC2: Get it if you liked the original. If you've never played it before then I have no idea if I should recommend it or not.
•Fat Princess: I did not enjoy this game AT ALL. I say stay away, but I think others like baiz really enjoyed this one.
•Flower: It was very pretty and stuff but I thought it was kinda boring. Other people here like DCL and baiz liked it a lot though.

Yeah, I probably won't get into Resistance, but I want to give it a shot since I like Insomniac and I know fs loved them so much. I also like fantasy shooters much more than realistic ones.
Uncharted is one of those ones I've heard recommended, but there's a good chance I'll just rent out of curiousity. The lowest on my list, probably.
Fallout 3 is for when I run out of other games and need something long. I played Oblivion on the PC and enjoyed it, so I figured I'd give it a shot.
MvC2 is mostly cause I haven't played a fighting game since Soul Calibur 2 and love Marvel.
Fat Princess- I'll probably stay away. It was one of those curiousity things I haven't really looked into yet, so thanks for the heads up.
Flower- Another curiousity thing, but I'm cool with boring and I think Sarah wants it too.

Speaking of her, she just called me a few minutes ago and she was able to find Valkyria Chronicles, so yay!

Welcome back!! :D

I'm glad to hear that you're doing better :)

It has been the same for me since you left, well I went on a trip to hong kong and brought back a xbox360 and I've been playing a lot of shoot em ups

I got a job interview for tomorrow that hopefully will change my life, other than that I'm thinking of going back to school and apply for a program that actually gives me a job, not an opportunity.

I added you on psn btw

oh and I'm lucky that comic books are not very accessible in my area, cuz it's something that I would be interested in and it gives me one more reason not to collect them.
