What are your thoughts on the this generation of consoles that you currently own? I am mainly looking for thoughts on the hardware and the operating software, but you can talk about games as well. The 360 is the first console I got from this generation, so I'll start with it. Likes: -The controller -Demos for every Live Arcade game and Indie game -The choice between installing a game and not installing a game -Party rooms where you talk to your friends while each of you play different games -The warranty that covers the biggest issues with the system for three years. Dislikes: -Unreliable hardware (but the warranty makes this not such a big deal) -The controller's D-Pad -The loud disc drive -Having to pay for Live Gold -The stupid DRM system: Everything you buy on Xbox Live is actually tied to your console. It is not saved with your Live Account. So if you get a new 360, you have to do a license transfer, you cannot log in and download the stuff right away. Microsoft only lets you do this once a year as well. -No way to back up save files -Point system for buying stuff PS3 Likes: -The Dualshock 3 controller -The quiet, reliable hardware -Everything you download is saved onto your PSN account. -Online play is free -Most save files can be backed up -No stupid point systems for buying stuff Dislikes: -Some save files are locked on the system -The L2 and R2 buttons on the controller -Games that require game data to be installed and still have terrible load times (like GTA4) -Many PSN exclusive games do not have demos -Not many people have headsets when playing online Wii Likes: -The quiet, reliable hardware -Being able to back up most save files -The classic controller, and games that support it -Games that actually use the Wiimote properly. Dislikes: -The numerous shovelware titles that make poor use of the Wiimote. -The utter lack of demos for Wiiware titles (they recently added demos for a few games, though) -Some save files are locked on the system -Crappy online system -Stupid DRM system that makes it so you have no way to get your Wii Shop Channel games back if your Wii breaks. The only way you can get them back is if you send your Wii in for repairs and tell them that you have games on the system. -Point system for buying stuff |

I think you pretty well covered everything there. My complaint with all systems is that they don't let me shoot lazers from my eyes. |

My list (which are mostly copied from yours) Xbox 360 Likes: -The controller -The choice between installing a game and not installing a game -Party rooms where you talk to your friends while each of you play different games -The warranty that covers the biggest issues with the system for three years. -huge selection of games (especially if you have access to Japanese 360) Dislikes: -Region protection -Unreliable hardware (but the warranty makes this not such a big deal) -The controller's D-Pad -The loud disc drive -Having to pay for Live Gold -The stupid DRM system: Everything you buy on Xbox Live is actually tied to your console. It is not saved with your Live Account. So if you get a new 360, you have to do a license transfer, you cannot log in and download the stuff right away. Microsoft only lets you do this once a year as well. -No way to back up save files -Point system for buying stuff -expensive hard drives PS3 Likes: -Region FREE!!! -The Dualshock 3 controller -The quiet, reliable hardware -Everything you download is saved onto your PSN account. -Online play is free -Most save files can be backed up -No stupid point systems for buying stuff -blu-ray player Dislikes: -Some save files are locked on the system -Games that require game data to be installed and still have terrible load times (like GTA4) -Not many people have headsets when playing online -Selection of games is less spectacular than Xbox360 which is its main competitor Wii Likes: -The quiet, reliable hardware -Being able to back up most save files -The classic controller, and games that support it -Games that actually use the Wiimote properly. -Fully functional GC emulator Dislikes: -Region protection -The numerous shovelware titles that make poor use of the Wiimote. -Some save files are locked on the system -Crappy online system -Stupid DRM system that makes it so you have no way to get your Wii Shop Channel games back if your Wii breaks. The only way you can get them back is if you send your Wii in for repairs and tell -no first party rechargeable battery packs -Lack of games with full widescreen (that's not asking a lot) |

The only thing I find different and really hate between the PS3 and the 360 is the marketplace and dashboard. The PS3 is just not user friendly. I had to tell it to D/L stuff 3 times before it did. Tell it to D/L in the background and it doesn't seem to like that. And what the hell is this you gotta install demos and PSN games crap? Not bad enough I gotta use 3 gigs to get it you want more space to install it? You already took 30 gigs that magically disappeared and I don't think I can get back ( I don't know since I can't access the actual harddrive to see what is going on in there). Now you want more? And after surfing through the marketplace I am thankful for the point system. At least they make thier products worthwhile since they can't charge 50 cents for even more useless crap. Then flood the market with it. Edited by squid5580, Dec 16 2009, 11:00 AM.

No daylight, I'm too weak to face it!

Doomer. You can backup your saves with a memory card on the 360. They recommend this if you ever want to remove specific game data from the machine that already has achievements associated with it. Other than that, I only own a 360, so you can pretty much just copy and paste your list into my post and there you have it. Although, I don't mind paying for live. It's less than $5 a month, so I can live with it based on how much usability it gives me. Hell, it used to save me on long distance calls back in the day on the old Xbox. |

I already do that. What I was talking about was copying the saves onto my computer like I can with my PS3 and Wii. |

I dislike the fact that probably 1/3- 1/2 the time my stupid PS3 controller won't sync and just keeps flashing until it turns itself off. It's also WAY more complicated than the Wii. The only thing I dislike about the Wii is that the pointer spazzes when it goes nears the edges of the TV. |

Well both really. I don't mind paying the tax but would much rather pay it at the register then be able to buy a 20 dollar game with a 20 dollar card. Not have to buy another 20 dollar card tax free because the tax put me up to 22 bucks. |
