If you have the system for it, it really does sound better than CDs ever will, and buying music on vinyl is cheap. It also gives the the legal right to download it :finger: I have bought 3 albums on vinyl recently, as you may have noted in the June purchases thread. I got: Saxon - Rock the Nations Uriah Heep - The Magicians Birthday Judas Priest - Defenders of the Faith. I have a collection of maybe 50 albums on vinyl or so. Not a huge collection, but I own a lot of good stuff, none the less. I am currently spinning: Budgie - If I Were Brittania I'd Waive the Rules. This is one of the most underrated bands of all time in my opinion. :headbang: What about you? Do you have a record player? Do you go old school because sound matters? :D |

Where dreams come to come true.

I've got about 25 LPs, on top of about 10-15 7" records. I more enjoy the experience of throwing on a record than anything, but I still buy cds more often. You've gotta know where to look for cheap vinyl, and then you can exhaust that pretty quickly unless you want Dan Fogelberg or Billy Joel. But certainly, in the right outlets, you can do a lot. I enjoy the size of the artwork a lot, which I believe to be the biggest advantage of vinyl media. Plus, you can get some really great packaging. My Mono Gone is a 3xLP set with gorgeous gatefolds and designs on the B side of the third vinyl. Only one I've picked up recently was Simon & Garfunkel Bridge Over Troubled Water. Haven't done a lot of vinyl this year. I was going to get Violent Femmes s/t record on vinyl, but I figured I probably wouldn't find it sooner or easier than $4 on CD. I used to buy tons of music in the CD format, but then one day I decided that I didn't need the disks anymore, so I spent months ripping them all into my computer (at the time only at 4x speeds, which was so slow). After that was done, I sold them all back to my local record store (called The Record Exchange, R.I.P.) and got about $2000 for it all, which just goes to show how much I had. Since then, I buy my music online mostly. I'd like to get into vinyl again, which I remember from my childhood, but I honestly can't take on another hobby (of collecting something) right now. |
