You were that kid who didn't read the questions carefully in school and your mom wrote in notes complaining about your grades, weren't you?

Nope, I was the kid who was given instruction about how to do something and then did it my own way instead. I've been like this my whole life. My parents have a story about something like this from way back when I was in kindergarten working on a crafts project, but I can't remember the specifics of that story right now.

Later on, I was the kid who hated when the math and science teachers asked us to show our work. I would get the correct answers, but because I simplified the problem in my head, not by using the long drawn out mathematical methods that they wanted me to use, teachers would always deduct points from my tests. I always hated that, but I wasn't about to change, because my ways worked just as well for the same result.

Edit: My parents were never the type to blame teachers for my grades. If I was doing poorly in a class, which was admittedly rare since I usually always was an A/B student (except in 9th grade, possibly due to the fact that I had just changed schools), it was my own fault and my parents punished me as such.

Wait, no one has given you a Nobel prize for math for coming up with new, simplified equations no one else knows about yet??!?

Nice, very funny. That is not what I am talking about. Remember those math classes where the teachers wanted you to show every step taken to get the answer? They asked for this so that they could show you where in the process you got the answer wrong. Well, I always thought that was a huge waste of time. I could skip steps and simplify the process in my head much faster than taking the time to write it all down, so why bother?

Q: Why not just write what they wanted too, after the fact?

A: Because I already got the correct answer, that's why. I did this a couple of times, and do you know what happened? Teachers would subtract points for any errors made in writing it all down. Also, I would have teachers asking me how I could get the correct answer if I made a mistake in the steps? This led to accusations of cheating at worst, or me having to try and explain to them that I had gotten the correct answer in my head and simply made a mistake writing down what they wanted. Either way, they didn't appreciate what I was doing.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't. I chose don't. After all, I was already getting the correct answers, so f*** it!

There are reasons why you are taught the long ways in math.

So the teachers could be assured that I wasn't letting a calculator do all the work? I wasn't. I understood the processes; I just thought it was a pain in the butt to have to write it down all the time. Lazy? I don't think so. Just working smarter, not harder. :thumb2:

Thank God I'm going not going into Secondary Ed. "I could've edited this paper, but you should be able to get the gist from what's written. I'm working smarter not harder."

If you have not figured it out. I am splitting my time between Final Fantasy XIII and Fallout; New Vegas. New Vegas is a much MUCH better RPG

It's ok. I've had an ongoing debate with myself over whether or not I should get Lego Star Wars. I'm convinced I'll love it, but something inside me just refuses to purchase it.

Well, Sarah owns Lego HP, so it's not like I had to buy anything or risk any money on the venture. ;)

Solved the first puzzle just now, met 'the girl' and stuff. Tired of reading. I'm taking a break until tomorrow, 4am and I have class tomorrow.
