I haven't played Lost Odyssey, but this was definitely the worst RPG dungeon I've put up with. It's 3 concentric circles broken up in segments with 3 circles on a lower level in between. You have to rotate a room through them to use as a bridge to get out. And all of this is over multiple screens that're fairly large.

The kicker is: you don't really know what the dungeon looks like for a long while. And even once you do, you don't know how it's broken up ever. And while you know where the moving room rotates to, you don't know what's there or if you should move it there. Will that put me next to a switch I need or one that's going to mix it up more? Who knows! Will I even be able to get to where I rotated it to? Beats me! And you don't even know where the exit is. And the enemies are hard to dodge and consist of rat and mini-witch. And you'll fight 3 each battle. Meaning you're fighting A LOT of rats and mini-witches.

I've been playing Picross 3D. I think I'm better with a 3D object than a 2D picture, but it's probably still harder. I still just kinda wish it was 3D Minesweeper :( which is kinda what I went in to it thinking

Yep. Sounds about as gay as the Lost Odyssey joint. And similar in concept.

It wouldn't have been as bad if the game's random encounters didn't take 6 minutes each to finish. Not because of leveling or fighting style, but because the focking animations and actions take FOR-EV-ER in that dang game. I'm gettin mad just thinkin about it.

That was my biggest gripe with the game and why I never finished it. Want to attack? Well, your character has to run the length of a football field first.

Nate - I'm glad that boss served you no trouble. I had picked the game back up because I left it for the same reason, in that damn dungeon. I was avoiding battles the best I could, so when it came time for the boss, I wasn't properly leveled. Hardest boss in the whole game for me, I am pretty sure.

Well, maybe one other boss was tough, but at least I was leveled for it... and it didn't take me a bunch of tries to beat it.

But that fat man.... damn... he pounced me. When I finally beat him, I had 2 guys barely alive, and the third dead.

The fat man kicked my butt. Tuba, I assume? Yeah, the boss at the end of Ft Fermata is some monster. Tuba was tough in both fights, but I was able to beat him my 2nd time both times. It's ridiculous that blocking changes damage from 1100 to 300. That's a little extreme.

Also extreme: the severe lack of enemies in this game. For a game as graphically stunning, who dropped the ball here? I haven't played a game this lacking since Atelier Iris. There's maybe 1, tops 2 enemies per dungeon and maybe 1 of them has a light/dark form. And guaranteed at least something in there is just palette swapped from earlier in the game.

Anyway, 9:40 or something in. Finished the first dungeon of Ch 3. Looking like I'm going awfully slow and may take a bit more than 30 hours at this rate. :( I think I might be slightly overlevelled, too, cause we were level 20-21 and got level 18-19 characters at the beginning of Ch 3. Oops. I'm using Retto, Viola and Claves. Mostly cause Retto seems to be the MC and the other two remind me of Rune Factory characters. But really, my party's Viola and whatever slackers she decides to carry.

I found Viola too annoying to control, so I would only use her for healing, because I hated aiming that stupid bow, so she was a complete tool in battle.

Yeah, it's kind of a nuisance. If it's already aimed correctly, it's killer, but it's possible you may waste an entire turn cause she's trying to hit someone behind a rock and you can't get her to aim at anyone else fast enough. But when she has the ability to do 10,000 damage per hit compared to their 200-800, it makes a big difference. ;)

I am somewhere around 36+ hours (if I am remembering correctly) into Strange Journey now. This game is going to go over 100 hours, I can just feel it. I am just about to finish Sector Carina (the 3rd sector), if that gives you any idea of just how long this game is. However, I've also been doing all of the extra missions that I can, so that should probably be taken into consideration as well.

Back to the point though, this game is still a lot of good dungeon crawling fun. I like getting more powerful demons all the time and I think my fusing abilities are really working out for me, as so many of my demons end up knowing either a bunch of great healing spells including Recarm, or they're inheriting instant death spells like Mamudo. It is no joke that for the past few hours my party has been on a rampage, just demolishing everything. I don't think I am over-leveled though, just that the enemy power jump seems to have slowed down a bit from the previous section is all. I guess I'll find out for sure when I make it to the next sector.

I don't think I can take any more. This game is gorgeous. It's got a fantastic soundtrack. It's got decent progression. It's got an interesting story and characters. But, OH MY GOD the focking battles! They take forever, consist entirely of mashing x and occasionally triangle, happen frequently and are always the same goddamned enemies. I can't take it anymore. I've been fighting onion monsters, jellyfish, bats and evil goats for 10 goddamned hours. And there's always like 3 per battle. You cannot have half hour+ dungeons with only 2 enemies in it. And I'm not exagerrating in the slightest on that number, either. Some dungeons have only 1, most have 2. I have yet to see one with 3. You can't do that. ESPECIALLY when they're just palette swapped. I've fought no less than 3 iterations of this onion monster. xxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxtriangle! :brickwall: :brickwall: :brickwall: :brickwall: :brickwall: :brickwall: :brickwall:

case closed. I'm never touching this game... You ended my curiosity when you spoke about how long the battles are. Nothing irritates me more in RPGs than long regular monster battles.

Yeah, I wouldn't advise it. Especially for you. And since you don't know what you're missing as far as the game world goes, it makes it easier.

Too boring to slough through to. I've got to take a break at bare minimum. God knows I can't take another hour of it right now. It's just ridiculously freaking tedious.
