I've only finished through Ch 2. It's tough, but nothing unmanageable yet. The generous checkpoints really help out. I'm a little worried it'll kick my ass by the end, but I feel like if I made it through DMC3, I can survive this. Did you play on Normal?

Yo, let me know how Strange Journey treats you. I've been hearing good things about it and keeping an eye half out.
Ok. Will do.

So far the only problem I have is that it can take almost 45 minutes or so between some save points, which is kind of a long time for a handheld game. What that means is that this is not a handheld game that you can play whenever you find a few spare minutes, but a game that must be played like any old school console RPG, with plenty of time set aside for gaming.

I'm still very early in the game, but combat seems fun so far. There is a new battle mechanic in this game where if you have a lot of demons that share the same alignment in your party, they can team up for an extra hit every time an enemy's weak point is exploited. This means that if I share a neutral alignment with two neutral demons, and score a critical attack on an enemy, they will follow up that attack with a bonus attack for some extra damage. The more party members who share an alignment, the stronger these bonus attacks will become. This is a good way to save some MP and deal a bit more damage.

Also worth mentioning is that demon negotiations seem to take a while longer in this game than they ever have in other Megaten games. These demons are all a bunch of greedy bastards, I want... I want... I want... I want... They are also moody too, so depending on your alignment (neutral by default) some demons will have nothing to do with you. I will have to play some more to see if this changes a bit once I become stronger.

Yeah. I played it on the default difficulty, but I also suck at these types of games, so... I'm sure you'll do fine though.

No daylight, I'm too weak to face it!
I've moved back into playing Sacred 2. But I think I'm about to shelve it for awhile because it's a long ass game that doesn't stay fun for long. I would achievement whore it, but to do that at this point would take way longer than I feel like investing. I've already gotten all of the achievements that won't take me another 10-20hrs to get. (Well, I'm working on the last online joint as we speak)

I'm thinking of refeeding my NCAA 10 addiction again, or maybe firing R6V back up. But then.... Part of me wants to download and play Zeno Clash now that I read the review for it.

hah well. What to do?

I've got so much love in my heart for Bayonetta right now. I needed this game BAD. I mean, it's got some cool ass scenes, fantastic combat, but what really puts it over the top? A fantastic checkpoint system. I never feel screwed when I die. Unlimited continues and decent checkpoints. So it's challenging because of the game, not some cheap ass wear you down mechanic. The only thing I don't like is the presentation at times. These film strip scenes are lame in such a visceral, stylish game and the graphics could use a good bit of cleaning. If we could fix that, we'd be looking at an Uncharted killer for me. I'm having that much fun with it.

I am surprised you haven't mentioned the soundtrack, which though it is repetitive, is also excellent in my opinion. In fact, the only thing I didn't like about the game was all of the masonic/illuminati symbolism throughout the game, but I know most people don't care about that stuff.

I have a problem with the whole witch killing angels thing they got going on. I don't really feel comfortable with it, even if they are portrayed as the bad guys.

Well, I'm not Christian, so I could give less a damn about hacking up their hosts. Fighting angels in here is absolutely no different to me than fighting minotaurs or whatever in God of War. Just a different mythological creature.

I did hit a fight that put me at a standstill though and that made me :(. These goddamned speedy ass lightning/fire duos kick my butt. And having to fight 2 sets back to back has stalled me out for the time being. When a single hit takes off 1/5 HP and a solid combo drops you to about a 1/4 left and they're faster than you, it kind of sucks.

I was waiting for this. They are the most pain in the butt enemies in the entire game. I don't know where you're at in the game (1st time fighting them?), but they are brought out more often near the end of the game. Also, those groups of Joys can be a hassle too.

The difficulty spike is absolutely f---ing ridiculous in chapter 6. After an absurd amount of time beating that one battle I'm now at the boss (or what I can only hope is the boss) for that section and getting slaughtered there for a half hour. Great.

Segue:

I really wish I had never bought a PS3, honestly. While a couple of games have been great, overall, it's been a terrible purchase. It's the exact opposite direction that I need to be going in and I knew better, but was still clinging to old patterns. Plus, I already had my plate more than full with Wii and DS games.

Honestly, though, I'm starting to wonder why the hell I'm still wasting mind boggling amounts of money on gaming at this point to begin with.

Not a chance. I still really love this game. I guess association with grumpy feelings I had towards other games made both you and Rag think I now hated this one, too. Nope, I just got stumped last night and was sad about it. And turns out I was blocked by my own n00bishness. God knows what I had equipped on the backup weapon wheel cause it prevented me from witch time and did crap damage. I figured it was just the boss being tough. I hadn't realized I accidentally swapped. Flipped back to my main set and dominated first time through.

So yeah, now I'm on Ch 8. :D

Edit: My thoughts on the PS3 might've also contributed to that impression now that I reread what I wrote. Those weren't based off this game at all. They were just me looking at the big picture overall. ;)

anyone have super street fighter 4? My brother bought it and I've been playing it a bit. I'm pretty terrible at it. Only one win online out of 10 fights.

Also, ch 9 of Bayonetta= hard as balls. Craziness. (Cool end boss, though).
