Hitting my old playthrough of FFVIII. I just did the orphanage flashback stuff at the destroyed Trabia Garden, and we now are going to look for Edea's house.

I have the guidebook, so I'm trying to do all the sidequests and extra stuff. I'm having fun with this and using Evernote to write down things I don't want to miss while progressing through the story, and other things I need to do at specific times, and taking pictures of certain pages in the guide to add to my Evernote. I'm creating one convenient note entry that will tell me everything I need to do in the order I need to do it. I read up on a story synopsis so now the story is fresh again to me, and I'm ready to continue.

I was such a noob at this game when I got stuck on the Fujin/Raijin battle in Balamb on Disc 2, but after all the studying I've done, I'm very comfortable with this game and can see myself being as completionist with it as I was with FFX. (maybe not to the same extreme, but close)

I've never played FFVIII before, yet I've owned the game for years. I am so ashamed.

I finished Condemned: Criminal Origin. The blocking in this game is just plain broken. He does no necessarily throw his weapon up to block when you hit block, and enemies can swing straight through your weapon as if it is not there at all. It is infuriating. If you can avoid having to block too much in this game, you can have some fun with it. That being said, the main character walks extremely slow, though. His run speed feels like a normal walking speed. It is a minor gripe, but you have to deal with it throughout. I would give it a 6.5. It is a bit above average. IT just isn't great.

Also working on my Crisis Core playthrough.

Just curious - has anyone played this game on Hard mode? And beaten it?

I've spent 23 hours on this garbage, and am beginning to think I'm going to have to start a new game on Normal mode if I want to beat it. I just spent the better part of an hour muscling through the snowy Modeo Ravines, got to the warehouse, and the Genesis army guys wiped me out real quick even with my Phoenix Down effect on. Seriously, why the hell are the save points so spaced out? The Modeo Ravines were really, really long, and pretty brutal. I gained two levels, levelled up several of my Materia, found a rare item, and that progress is lost because the designers can't give me a fucking save point or ease up on the unforgiving nature of Hard mode (which should be titled God Mode, in my opinion..). And it's not like I gain anything from these battles anyway, aside from negligible amounts of SP and gil. Literally, every battle that I don't level up in is a waste of time, 'cause this game has to have the shittiest levelling system of any game I've played (even FFII's is better). Director: "I thought it'd be cool to only be able to level up by winning the slots!" *everyone else claps and cheers*

It's not even about the story, otherwise I'd just YouTube the rest of this crap; I actually want to beat it so I can cross it off my list. But this game has to give me hell every step of the way. God, I hate this game.

/rant

*phew*

I have not played this game yet, but you've just sunk it to the very bottom of my pile. :lol2:

Good luck finishing though. You can do it!

YES! I thought I missed something when I played this game since I was playing the Japanese version, the second half of the game becomes unforgivable unless you grind like a crazy or you're lucky like me. I was so underleveled by the end it's not even funny. A level up system based on luck is bullshit in my book and I'm surprised that you actually endured 23h on hard mode, kudos to you.

Seriously, other than the really nice FMV and the epic ending (which everyone who played FFVII should know) there's nothing I like about this game. I just don't see where all these praise come from, maybe because the main character is call Zack Fair even then I think he's totally overrated anyways.

I started playing New Super Mario Bros 2 tonight. I've gone through the first two worlds so far and this game is pretty fun. Just like the last two NSMB games, there are three big coins to find every level that provide the real challenge to each stage. Lives are infinite in this game, as is typical for Mario these days. In this game 1up mushrooms are aplenty and with the focus of this Mario game being coin collecting, getting extra lives for every 100 coins is insane! It is possible to get hundreds of coins in some stages, so the risk of death is obsolete, as usual.

Still, if you're having too much trouble completing the stage, that P box will appear to help you coast to the finish. I hate when that box shows up, because it's an insult to me. I can complete the stage anytime I want, but searching for and getting some of those big coins will cost me a bunch of lives. A couple of the big coins have been a bit too well hidden so far, in downright illogical places that can only be found after some frustration or plain dumb luck. Same goes for the world map shortcuts too, which are hidden very well in particular stages.

This game was designed to be played with a FAQ I guess. Or perhaps they're still designing Mario games with the notion that kids on the playground exchange info about how to find secrets and such. I don't know, maybe kids still do that after all?

It is cool getting to use the new Gold Mario Flower power. Just like a fire flower powerup, Mario will hurl gold fireballs that explode bricks and enemies to turn them into gold coins. Wario would be so jealous if he knew.

I am 18 to 19 hours into Wild Arms. This is a great game so far. The story is interesting. I wish Rudy was not a silent protagonist, though. It is so hard to care about a character when you do not even try to give him a personality

I started playing Donkey Kong Country Returns tonight. I only had time to complete a couple of stages, but I was surprised that I was unable to find everything the first time through these first levels. I got the KONG letters, but I was missing a few puzzle pieces. I'm sure that as I learn all of the tricks to this game, it will become a bit easier to notice what I missed the first time.

Replaying Breath of Fire IV (PS1) on the Vita. This will be the third time I have tried replaying it. Things just keep getting in the way.

Where dreams come to come true.
Been playing Lupin the 3rd: Treasure of the Sorcerer King. It's okay. Some exciting Lupin charm, but not much in the way of a stealth game.

Also a couple hours into Tales of Graces f, not much to go on, but one thing in the battle system I like is escalating damage. I think it's a nice touch.

I'm not sure if I want to get over my head with Disgaea 4, but I mentioned to a friend I had never done a female playthrough of any Disgaea game and he was understandably shocked, so I may detour and run through those first.

I started Child of Eden tonight. I was expecting a short and relaxing game, but what I discovered is a game that I apparently suck at playing. I had to try five times just to make it past the first stage, with a score only in the 200K range and two stars. I played the next stage and beat it my first try, with three stars. Now, because I only have 5 of 8 stars needed to unlock the next stage, I have to replay those first two stages and not suck so bad.

This game is harder than I remember Rez being.

I'll say that the visuals are insanely pretty though. This game is on par with El Shaddai in the beauty category.

42 hours into Wild Arms.

I, also, played a little bit of Crash Bandicoot 2 just for fun. I got some gems that I have never gotten before.
