I'm over 200 hours into Skyrim. This game had better be finished by New Years or else it will overstay it's welcome into the next year.

yah know I think "beating" the game only takes something like 18hrs.
What else do you need to do?

Side quests. Shit tons of side quests, and you cannot do everything that there is to do in one play through

Yep, it's all about the side quests. I think it is possible to do everything in a single game, so long as you don't count choosing either of two sides in a war 'different'. The only thing I am not able to do is the thieves guild, but I've talked about that before. I am currently working on the Dark Brotherhood missions and then there is nothing much left beyond the main quests. I could keep doing thieves guild side quests, but there is really not much point if I cannot actually restore and become leader of that guild.

I beat Chapter 9 of Dead Space Extraction last night. IT was a bitch to beat. It was the longest chapter of the game yet, without a doubt. I wanted to beat it last night. That didn't happen

I started playing Super Mario 3D Land tonight. The game is fun, but easy. I'm on world 3-2 and have over 40 lives, and that's after losing more than a few lives going after some gold coins. The camera can be a bit tricky at times, but that's forgivable considering what Nintendo are trying to do making the game 3D. However, a few sections are difficult to maneuver with precision due to the camera being placed in what amounts to an isometric perspective. If you've ever played Persona you'll know what I'm talking about.

wrapping up Star Ocean: the Second Evolution, I'm really not liking some of the bosses :/
I think I'm knocking on the last boss' front door right now...

So I finished the first run of Mario 3D Land today. After completing the game once, special worlds are unlocked which are more difficult. It's like playing through the game twice, but not. Or, it's like playing the easy warm-up to unlock the true game. If I keep playing like I did today, this game should be done in a couple more days.

If I didn't particularly enjoy NSMB on both Wii and DS, would I like 3D land?

Hard to say. The game is very easy, like all Nintendo games these days, but there is a tiny bit of challenge in trying to get all of the gold coins. What makes this game unique is that it is in 3D, so Nintendo has done some cool things to take advantage of this. Some levels play from a top down perpective, which is new, while others are the more standard side scrolling levels. As mentioned before, most levels are played in an isometric view, similar to how a lot of older RPGs skewed the battlefield 45 degrees.

This game does some unique things with the camera and foreground/background, so that's what the game should be played for. The enemies are a joke and only serve as a reason to jump; most likely, you will never die from contact with an enemy. The special levels seem to be a bit more difficult, so I'll let you know what they are like in the couple days.

Overall, this game does some new things to take advantage of 3D that are cool. I'd say it's worth playing.
