This Weezer record cannot be good. This band is starting to become too serious about not being serious. I can't believe I'm this close to ditching Weezer, one of my favorite bands, but they're becoming too much for me. This may be my last Weezer record.

I'm ready for the new Tegan and Sara album. I've already pre-ordered on iTunes, so now I just have to wait until next week. :finger:

Weezer came out yesterday. I'll wait to hear the final verdict on it before picking it up.
First listen: Hey, this isn't too bad. I think because I thought it was going to be SOOO bad that I actually kind of like it!

Second listen: Nah. I was about right. It's not that good.

The lyrics are just as bad as I thought they'd be, but the songs just don't have a lot of life to them. Granted, I'm going on a couple of listens. There are a fair share of good melodies here and there, but they're almost ruined by these lyrics, haha.

The lead single (song title way too long to type) is the best song, but the album is definitely front heavy. "I'm Your Daddy" has a good melody and "The Girl Got Hot" is admittedly fun. Also, "Put Me Back Together" is a pretty boss tune.

As for the elephant in the room: "Can't Stop Partying" is absurd, but I've always liked the base melody after hearing it on the second Rivers Cuomo comp. I don't know if the club radio beat sound was what I thought the song was going to be, but it's decidedly not bad because the base melody is very strong even though it's just so ridiculous. It's basically what the Killers would sound like if they were all dance all the time and outsourced their material to Jermaine Dupri. And Lil Wayne's "Okay bitches, Weezer and this Weezy, upside down MTV, please don't shoot me down because I am endangered species" line is totally amazing.

Second half is pretty weak. Love the synths in "Trippin' Down the Freeway," but not much else. The overwhelming stupidity of "Love is the Answer" would make it the worst Weezer song ever if nine or ten of the tracks on Maladroit hadn't already claimed that spot. I mean, Make Believe fine and all, but while you may have to "trust in the world," the world could've done without this one.

"Let It All Hang Out" has great Weezer guitars going on, but the song doesn't really do anything. "In the Mall" is the most fillertastic track possibly ever. The last track isn't too bad, but I'd already tuned out of the album by that point, so the babababananana couldn't save me.

Of course, I'm an idiot, bought a record I didn't think I'd like, but I upgraded to the model I didn't need by getting the deluxe edition with the extra disc and four tracks. This was fine for the red album because those tracks were better than the album's tracks, but these tracks were cut for a reason. Though "Run Over by a Truck" is pretty good, it wouldn't have fit on the album. I think "The Underdogs" would've ended the album better, since it's just a plain better song than "I Don't Want to Let You Go," but that doesn't say a whole lot to me.

I mean, if you like to party and you like to listen to songs about partying, and you want to listen to music that gets you up for partying, or just want to listen to Weezer, I guess this'll do it for ya. But for someone like me who actually takes Weezer's catalog seriously, haha, I could've done without it. But hey, it's better than Maladroit, which is like saying, "Hey, she's a dog, but at least she doesn't have a pig nose like that one does."

Yes sir! I had t o go to wal mart (ugh. I hate Wal Mart) to get it, but it comes with a 15 track bonus disc of classic songs and a bonus DVD with a live show FOR 12 FREAKIN BUCKS! I heard the first 5 tracks from it so far, and it is awesome

Wow, lots coming out now that I wasn't even aware of. Things I'm looking to pick up soon:

Birdman- Pricele$$
Flyleaf- Memento Mori
(maybe) Rihanna- Rated R
Bon Jovi- The Circle
Weezer- Raditude

That's just off the top of my head.

New Asian Kung-Fu Generation single coming out in a week or so. I would hope it'll lead into a new full length, but the promo almost looks like it's from a movie.

Also, new Lupe in December as well? Dunno. Date pending, I guess, haha.

And picked up the full length from a Cincinnati band called All the Day Holiday. Name sucks, but the band is pretty good. Saw 'em live last Friday, and liked their jive. Kind of has a post rock/Copeland sort of deal, which is fine by me.

New Dashboard Confessional cd isn't too bad. Picked up the deluxe edition which comes with an acoustic version of the album for elitist assholes like myself, and I've probably spun the electric version once. :lol2: Rather enjoy the acoustic disc though. Simply confirms that The Shade of Poison Trees was just a craptastic album and had nothing to do with the songs vs. acoustic/electric. A good rebound for Dashboard, yet again. I'd like consistency, but eh, the brand of adult pop rock suits my aging soul.

Been kind of a slow winddown to the year. I'll start revisiting the year here in a week or so, to see where it all lands. Not a real definitive Album of the Year, but it'll probably go to mewithoutYou's new one, which is absolutely tremendous.

So Lupe Fiasco's Lasers got pushed back to TBA2010(?), which makes perfect sense, because why would anyone want to release an album in hip-hop, but he's making up for it in dropping a couple mix tapes on Thanksgiving and Christmas.

First one was Enemy of the State: A Love Story, is all of 22 minutes long, and the flow is murderous. He basically does his thing over some beats from Lil Wayne, Jay-Z, and Radiohead among others.
