The new Mars Volta CD is pretty good. I can't say I like the last two tracks, though. They sounded pretty boring.
I've been meaning to pick that one up. iTunes, here we go. :D

New Mos is awesome. Thank god! "Casa Bay" has one hell of a beat. Pretty awesome album. ... I like it a LOT.
I checked it out on iTunes last night, but I was turned off by all of the negative reviews I was reading. Is it really worth the purchase? I consider myself a fan of his earlier stuff, but not to the point where I'll just buy anything with his name on it, as I tend not to have that level of trust with rap music.

While I was on iTunes though, I noticed Dead Prez has a new album out. I haven't bought it, but from what I sampled it sounds excellent!

I did buy a couple of albums though...

Matt and Kim - Grand This album is a lot of high energy fun. I've posted a video from them here before, but if you enjoy bands like The Go! Team half as much as I do, then you'll love this band too.

Tokyo Police Club - Elephant Shell I haven't had a chance to really listen to this yet, but I'm sure I'll like it.

Mos is good. It's not his old stuff, so if you want that, you won't much care for it, but it's got some good production, which can't be said for his past two releases, and his rhymes are definitely a step up, but not great. It's a solid album, good for Mos fans, but it can be a sucky album if you want Black Star or Black on Both Sides, because it ain't that.

Check out a few tracks from it. Check out "Auditorium," "Life in Marvelous Times" and "Casa Bey" to get an idea of what you should expect from it.

I don't think anyone has an excuse NOT to buy Dark Was the Night. It's for a great cause and is a surprisingly solid collection of tunes. :D

Yeah, I picked it up a month or so ago. Everyone brings some meat to dinner. I have no clue how they got everyone to actually try for this thing, but it is a top flight comp.

New Wilco sounds like Wilco playing Wilco while singing about Wilco. It's really Wilco By Numbers, but there are far worse things to do when you record another Wilco record as it's a pretty good record. Just not anything really super amazing.

If you're more of a casual fan, you really don't need this one.

Check out this stream of Fanarlo's album "Reservoir". It's Arcade Fire-ish and very good. :)

Stumbled upon a Japanese dance rock band called Sakanaction recently, and have been really digging them a lot. Certainly helps that they're on iTunes, which :finger: . Album is pretty solid for this alternative dance scene. There are some gems, but it's not a great album, not that there really have been many great albums to speak of this year.

Also, their video for "Native Dancer" is the probably the pinnacle of mankind. Watch it and realize that it's all downhill from here.

Modest Mouse has a new EP coming out tomorrow or next Tuesday. Not sure which.

It's a collection of a series of 7" singles they released the past few months which were a collection of songs that didn't make the cut on the last two albums. Take that as you will.

Modest Mouse EP is pretty solid, I think. You can tell which songs were from which sessions, but there are some good ones.

"The Whale Song" is the best though. A sprawling epic that could've fit right in on Moon & Antarctica and has a "Stars are Projectors" go ahead to it. "Rat King" is really good as well.

Also, Brand New are ramping up their new album, which comes out in September. You can hear a 30 second clip of their lead single "At the Bottom" on Amazon which comes out next Tuesday, and spin.com has the album cover and track list. I don't know how good it'll be, but we'll see.

I'm sorry if it seems like you're talking to yourself in here GLS. I haven't checked this thread in forever, perhaps because I tend to ignore stickied threads. That video was pretty cool. I couldn't really get into the music, but I dig the use of color in the video. As for music, I haven't been listening to much of anything lately. I still have not heard the new Mos Def album, nor have I listened to any Modest Mouse lately. What the heck is wrong with me, I haven't opened iTunes in a month.

Hopefully something good will come along soon and I'll be listening to music again. Maybe I've just stopped listening because most of what I do hear these days is all crap. I did see this a week ago though, which had me pretty excited.

A couple of new albums streaming that i think you fellas should check out. Mount Eerie (aka The Microphones) was a really cool dark and atmospheric sounding album, and Brendon Benson (of The Raconteurs) has a really fun pop album full of toe-tapin' diddies.

I can't listen to that at work Belf, but I'll be sure to check it out when I get home today. I didn't even know NPR featured music like this, and I listen to NPR every morning on my drive home!

I'm not at all familiar with their actual radio content (being in Canada and all), but I really enjoy their online coverage. Their podcast is great for getting into new stuff, their All Songs Considered Blog is usually good when I check it out, and their first listen stuff is a nice way of previewing albums. :thumb:

Sorry to keep shoving these First listen's down everyone's throat, but this album by Joe Henry is damn exceptional:

It's soulful Tom Waitsish goodness, minus the growl. :)
