Swords are overpowered in Morrowind.

I found the problem was that all the weapons worth using were swords; a few excellent weapons of other types would have been nice.

Goddammit, why do you have to be sort of right?

Yeah. I was disappointed by that, too. It was the same way with the armor, as well. All the good artifact gear was heavy armor and longswords. That's really it.

That's why you can make a conscious decision to use the lesser armors and weapons. I did a playthrough where I used Bonemold armor and... Skullcrusher, I believe.

It's not that much more difficult, if you get your skills up.

Skullcrusher is sweet. One of the better non-sword weapons IMO.

About over simplification, I just think its streamlining it for the better.

So many useless things relating to leveling up....gone. I think I kinda like it.

I'm liking it, too. I just hope it lives up to my expectations and really is streamlined, instead of simplified. It looks good, but you never know...

My brother "bought" it for me. I'm liking the way you assign weapons and magic to different hands. I always thought magic was too unwieldy to be really effective.

I kind of felt that the endings to all the big questlines were kind of anticlimactic and not very exciting. All just kind of like... oh wait it's over now? Especially the main quest...

I haven't done the main quest yet, but I loved the College of Winterhold. It was great the whole way through, even if it was a tad short.

So I just finished the main Thieves' Guild quest line. I still have some housekeeping to do, but for the main part, I am done. And I have to say: Skyrim's Thieves' Guild is exponentially better than Oblivion's "Thieves's" Guild. In Skyrim you're actually a criminal. In Oblivion the Thieves's Guild was just weird. It was like you were a criminal only in name and that you were actually a good guy. I wanted to play as a neutral criminal type character in Oblivion, but it just wasn't possible with the goody goody Gray Fox calling the shots. And there was a complete moral confusion. On one hand, you're the good guy protecting the poor, but in order to obtain the quests, you have to become an evil bastard that breaks into houses of people that clearly don't deserve it and steal their prize possessions. And in the end, the whole point of all of this is to reunite the Gray Fox with the love of his life. It was... strange.

In Skyrim, though, there's none of that nonsense. Everyone's a straight thug and in it for the money. I was expecting the Thieves' Guild in Skyrim to be more of the same, so I prepared myself for a chaotic good play through just like in Oblivion, but I was pleasantly surprised. I got my neutral character that I always wanted. There still is that mystic nonsense to it, but it doesn't consume what the Thieves' Guild is. At he end of it all, just when it seems like Oblivion happened and you're not the bad guys, your "helper" redeems it when you ask "What now?" and she responds by saying "Well I'm gonna go steal shit cus I'm still a straight up criminal". It was very satisfying.

Skyrim's guild was also superior to Oblivion's in the mechanical end of the spectrum as well because there's not all that I have to fence this much to get the next quest horse. The story unfolds so that you're fast tracked to prominence within the guild and they do it in a way that it doesn't feel cheap. There's still the fencing aspect to it to, and it is much more gratifying because you're given specific targets by people in the guild that you have to hit, and you get tangible rewards for your thieving.

Are you implying that I lied about staying at home and doing nothing on New Year's? Do you think that I'm secretly a massive party animal and just trying to hide my awesome life from you all to avoid you becoming jealous?

College of Winterhold was way too short. All that buildup and then it just goes poof.

That's what I've heard. I haven't done it yet, and probably won't on my first playthrough. My criminal overlord of Skyrim isn't much interested in that mystical horse. That's what's so great about Skyrim. There's so much crap to do that not only do you not have to do everything to have a fulfilling play through, but it is also very hard to do everything.

Yes. Four characters and somehow still managed to avoid all the faction quests, haven't done thieves' guild, companions, mages college, dark brotherhood. And yet, I've still somehow logged 140 hours of A-class entertainment. The MQ and the rebellion I did though, and yeah the endings are disappointing. I think the only town that actually saw any conflict was Whiterun. Solitude didn't change, and neither would Winterhold I'd bet if I played the Imperial one (which I'm doing on my latest).

The College of Winterhold was too short, but it was my favorite questline. I still have yet to do the Dark Brotherhood and last few missions of the Thieves Guild, though.

Yeah, I was gonna do the Dark Brootherhood next. Can't tell Mjoll, though. She'd be pissed.
