Holy shit! We get to kill dragons! This is going to be awesome! XD When I read the video description, "The fiercest threat to the world of Elder Scrolls returns!" all I could think of was, "Oh no! Not stale animation!"

I'd be thoroughly surprised if Bethesda kept the same engine. Oblivion is outdated, as are its problems. They're easy fixes now. Expect a hell of a lot better graphics and non-generic scenery. Don't expect non-generic monsters, though. Get ready for an asswap of timber wolves and polar/grizzly bears. |

Well, the trailer certainly looked better. Granted, it was a pre-generated cutscene, but it still looked nice. Hopefully they'll really run with this "dragon" thing and give us a bunch of reptilian/dragonic enemies, like roving fire drakes or wyverns. Wait, scratch that last one. They'd almost certainly become cliffracer 2.0. |

So... What do you think the plot for TES V is going to be about? I put my money on a dragon/human war. Let's just hope they let us kill a lot of dragons.

What would be really cool and would be single-handedly awesome enough for me to literally give everyone at Bethesda a blowjob would be if they let us play as a dragon. Of course, knowing Bethesda, that's never going to happen. In fact, if the game engine is anything like Oblivion's it would be impossible to even mod it. |

Read this. Anyway, it wouldn't really work to be able to play as a dragon, given the whole "Akaviri invasion" aspect of it. I mean, if there's a war, most people wouldn't like you very much, not to mention you're a giant monster who couldn't possibly use any sort of items in the game, let alone fit through most doorways. |

Hey, there was a game years ago called Horizons that had dragons as playable. It worked too. What they did is that there was the stuff for dragons, and then there was the stuff for everyone else. Sure it was challenging playing as a dragon because everything was so specialized and you couldn't use the things that everyone else could, but hey. That's just how it is being a dragon in a human (or other wise small, squishy bipedal) world. The hassle was also equaled out by the fact that dragons could fly. But, don't expect dragons to be playable. Maybe they'll give us the same thing they game us with the Orcs. Introduce them one game and then make them playable the next. Maybe a faction of dragons will defect and they'll begin a line of the new, noble dragons of Tamriel. |

So? I can guarantee one thing that will not be in the game is racial purity. There will be defections on both sides. As for the "too big" aspect, that can be dealt with. I don't know exactly how dragons work in TES lore, but most other things, even mythology, has dragons being able to take human forms. |

Why do you say that? I'm pretty positive no one in Tamriel likes the idea of an Akaviri evasion. In fact, the trailer even says: "But no-one wanted to believe. Believe they even existed." Generally when someone doesn't want to believe something exists, they don't like it. Furthermore, why would someone from Akavir invade Tamriel if they were just going to ally themselves with the Tamrielic peoples? And no, it doesn't work like that in TES lore. While it is rumored that the leader of the Ka Po'Tun succeeded in 'becoming a dragon,' it is unknown if this is literal or just a mentality. Dragons themselves, however, cannot take a humanoid form. |

Because it's true. Imagine, if you will, an army invading your city. The local forces are outnumbered and outmatched and there's no way that reinforcements will arrive in time. The city is surrounded, and there's no escape. You have military secrets that would be very useful to the attackers, and they're right on your doorstep. What do you do? Well, you've got three options: Pick up a weapon and try and take out as many of them as you can before they inevitably kill you, cut out the middle-man and just kill yourself, or hand over the secrets and join them. Believe it or not, most people aren't selfless heroes who would gladly pick the first option. Fear is a powerful emotion, the most powerful emotion, even, and the fear of death is one of the greatest. When push comes to shove, life comes before loyalty in the eyes of most people. They'd sooner defect than die. |

Yes, and I also understand that no race from Akavir but possibly the Tang Mo would be interested in anything someone from Tamriel could do for them, but then the Tang Mo aren't invading, the Dragons are. |

Like I said above, the most likely scenario of having dragons as playable is that a faction of the invaders defect. |

There's a very powerful difference here between the Daedra and this possible invasion force as well, especially if it's Akaviri. The Daedra in Oblivion, beyond having the Mythic Dawn, weren't exactly fans of getting other people on their side. They knew quite well they had the upper hand on Cyrodiil, and until the end, the challenge of the Champion was not stopping them back, but merely delaying them. They had no interest in allies with mortals beyond the Mythic Dawn. However, the Akaviri, and dragons themselves, are far different in nature. The Akaviri have been to Tamriel before. When they lost the war, rather than being killed or returning home, they became a part of the Imperial nobility. To the current date in Tamriel, an Imperial with Akaviri blood is a sign of nobility amongst the people of Cyrodiil. Mehrunes Dagon was a force of nature. The Akaviri are, while a much different culture, in the end, are IMMORTAL. VAMPIRE. SNAKEMEN.

Not all Akaviri are immortal, vampiric snakemen. The Mo's are monkey people (probably at least similar to the Imga), the Kamal are snow demons that awake during "freezing time" and attack the Mo's, and the Ka'Po'Tun are a sort of "cat-like" people (probably similar to Khajit (sp) but I don't think we know much about them, though I could imagine them having a more tiger-like look about them. After all, their leader Tosh Raka is considered a "Tiger-Dragon." So, yeah... you could just imagine what they probably look like). The Tsaecsi are the snakemen you're referring to. Plus, there's no telling what other kinds of people are living in Akavir. It's such a mysterious place, there's no telling what/who lives there. I'm very excited for the game, though. Hopefully it has something to do with Akavir, but who knows for sure. I think all signs point that way, but... we won't know until we know. EDIT: I know you know your stuff, Quirk, but for the sake of everyone else who doesn't know about this stuff I just wanted to make that clear that not all Akaviri are vampiric snakemen. It would be fantastic if it could be the Akaviri as the antagonists. But, seeing the route Bethesda is going, I think it would be a bit too complex and obscure for most of their audience. I mean, a lot of people who never read the books in the previous games wouldn't have any idea about he Akaviri, and it would seem to them like they came completely out of nowhere. It's more likely just plain dragons. Or as me and my friend who were discussing this a few days ago decided to call them, lolzdragonz. The lolzdragonz, of course, will have a faulty footing in lore. I get the feeling the lolzdragonz will mostly exist to capitalize on the success of Dragon Age Origins. Lolzdragonz are well known and iconic enemies, while the akaviri are fantastical and obscure. We all know which would sell better. |
