Coming from someone who doesn't know how to even install mods on CD Oblivion and Morrowind, can anyone explain whether it's possible to install mods on the Steam versions of oblivion and Morrowind, and if so, how?

Thankies

I kind of asked this question for anyone, and I got some basic info from here:

If anyone else can elaborate, any help is appreciated.

When you buy games off of Steam, you download the files onto your computer, correct? If so, then it's possible. All you have to do is find the location of the game files. Unfortunately, I don't know if Steam places them somewhere else, but the CD install puts it here: C:/Program Files/Bethesda Softworks/Oblivion/Data Files and C:/Program Files/Bethesda Softworks/Morrowind/Data Files. Then, stick the .esp file and any accompanying folders in the Data Files folder. If Steam did place them elsewhere, it shouldn't be too hard to find them from Program Files.

Problem I heard is that the encryptor doesn't work with the steam version correctly, meaning a lot of mods don't work :/ Means nothing to me, but ohh well.

What do you mean by encryptor?

My mistake, the 'Oblivion Script Extender'.

Dunno much but from my basic knowledge, but from what I've tried on my PC, and what some of the folks in my linkage said, that means there'd be .exe errors.

Oh, yeah. A lot of good mods like Deadly Reflex require that, and unfortunately, I can't get it to work with Wine, either.

Yeah, Steam loads the game through itself, and it hasn't been coded to allow third-party .exe files. This is a problem that can't really be fixed unless Valve decides to change the loading script to use OBSE, which I don't see happening.

Or, like someone suggested in the forums I linked, Bioware decide to put their encryption in the launcher and not the main game executable. Ahh well, to all potential TESFU members, Oblivion and Morrowind modding on steam is pretty much a no go :(

What does Bioware have to do with this? They have no part in Steam, TES, or OBSE.

You should still be able to use mods. I'm pretty sure back when they were released on STEAM that there was a big commotion about OBSE not working, so they patched it up. I'll try to find out for you.
