So....... Just installed Morrowind on my computer after like 2 years or so of owning it and I have no idea how to download and install mods. Yes, I am an embarrassment. Yes, I know this is very simple and I know you don't understand how I can not know this. And yes, I have never played Morrowind before even though I am a member of TESFU. In spite of my overwhelming incompetence, can some one please help me?

Well, downloading should be no problem, as long as you aren't a functional retard. Just find a website with a bunch of mods (TES Nexus is a good one), then, after finding the mods you like, push the "download" button. Installing is also very easy, assuming you actually know anything about programs. If not, then here are some simple instructions for you: Step one: Unzip the file because it's almost certainly going to be compressed. Step two: Find the location Morrowind installed to (most commonly C:/Program Files/Bethesda/Morrowind). In there, you'll find a folder called Data. Step three: Take your now unzipped mod, and throw it all in the data file. Step four: After starting the game launcher, in the main menu, select the mod option (I forget what, exactly, it's called, but it should be easy to figure out). Then, a list of all the mods you've installed will appear; activate them. And you're done. Also, most mods will have a readme file that will have install instructions in it. If you need an unzipping program, use 7zip or WinRAR. 7zip is more powerful(and free), but doesn't set file associations. WinRAR does, but has a 40 day trial before you have to pay(in reality, you never have to pay, you just have to do a few extra clicks to access the files if you aren't registered after the 40 day period). When placing folders and junk inside the the Data Files folder, make sure that the folders are called Meshes, Textures, Sounds, Music, or Splash. I think there may be more, but I'm sure you can figure it out. Any other folders are native to the mod and should either be opened up and have their contents placed in the Data Files folder or placed in the Meshes, etc. folder itself. The menu item Ninja is referring to says "Data Files." |

Thanks guys. It helped a lot. I also watched a youtube video of a guy actually doing it and that really got me going. The better body mod worked great and the visual pack I'm pretty sure worked. Not really sure. I'll have to compare graphics, but it didn't make my game crash, so I'm pretty sure it worked. The one that didn't work was a face mod that I tried to install. It didn't change the faces and when I went to create my character, the game crashed when I tried to go past the pre-set faces into the new ones I had just supposedly installed. Any idea what went wrong? |

Westly's Master Head Pack EDIT: I also tried changing faces. That didn't work. Crashed the game right off the bat. I'm trying World of Faces now. :sigh: If only I was competent

I'll try it tomorrow to see if have any problems. If so, it may be inherent to the mod, even though that is highly unlikely. |

I tried four different face mods. World of Faces and Better Heads had the same friggen reaction and Changing Faces. Better Heads even said it came with an autoinstaller, but I couldn't get it to come up. And the faces are like the one thing I must change in order to play this game. I can't stand the way the faces of the people look in Morrowind. |

You know, updated? Patches? I dunno if that would affect it, but I'm trying to cover all bases here. |

I just assumed that when I installed the thing it would be automatically patched cus my PS3 auto downloads all the patches, but now that I think about it, it makes sense that I'd have to manually download the patches because Morrowind isn't connected the internet in any way like my PS3 and Steam games are. Thanks Vanir. That's probably what's wrong because the error messages all said "So and so mod can't find the main files it needs" or something like that. EDIT: I have GOTY, so I think it may have come patched because when I go to download the patch it doesn't work. Edited by VickyD, Jun 10 2010, 02:10:58 PM.

An error message like that would more indicate that you installed something wrong. If a mod can't find its files, then the logical explanation is that they aren't where they're supposed to be. See if there's a readme, and see if there's anything you did wrong in the installation process. |

I did that already. I uninstalled Morrowind and reinstalled it and am going to try to start from scratch. |

Yeah, a drag-and-drop installation worked perfectly for me, so maybe you didn't copy everything. |

For some reason when I re-installed Morrowind all the mods came with it. I'm done. I'm too stupid to deal with this. |

Well yeah. There's nothing in the uninstallation process to remove mods. However, if you do have any mods that replace default meshes/textures/etc. (like Better Bodies), you will need to reinstall those.

If your uninstalling the Whole game, [ie to start from vanilla again], use the uninstall functionality of the game, then go to where the game WOULD be, and delete the Morrowind folder, because it WILL still have mods in it That way, when you re-install, your back to vanilla
