Yeah, maybe, but the MMO couldn't possibly be in cannon with the main series of games, so it wouldn't count any more than saying that Fallout 3 came out after Oblivion. |

World of Warcraft came out after Warcraft III. So theoretically Elder Scrolls Online could follow TES IV. On an off-topic note I heard blizzard was working on a Warcraft IV. 'Dis true?

That's true, but as I said, an MMO would be non-cannon with the main games and wouldn't count as being "the next game." @ Vanir: True, they could make a sequel, but I doubt it. Edited by Dr. Åssom, Dec 12 2009, 01:12:15 AM.

Well, the TES games really don't have an inter-connecting story. Each game is separate from the others. Sure, there's the overarching lore, but lore =/= story. That doesn't mean replaying the old games is bad, of course.

All I can say is that it had better not be an MMO or there'll be hell to pay. And it might piss some people off. |

Have you not been listening to what James and I have said? An MMO would be non-cannon. TES V is not and can not be an MMO for that reason. |

They ARE making an MMO game, though. They already have the studios for it. I wouldn't be surprised to hear at least something about it come spring. I'm hoping for a lot of TES V info by then as well. |

So what? An MMO is separate. It may be based in the world of TES, but it is not TES. Just like how Warcraft and World of Warcraft are different. |

No, I know that. I'm just saying it's going to be made and I think it's a waste of time. Like I said, though, it's a different studios. I just don't like the idea of a TES MMO, honestly. *shrug* |

I'll play it simply because it's TES. If it happens to be really cool, that would be okay with me. I can't play MMOs yet, but I'm 16 now so I'll prolly be able to if I ask. Also on my MMO lineup... Lego Universe! |

Sure, but not the same canon. The Pokemon games are canon. The Pokemon anime is canon. However, they're not the same. TES MMO would be non-canon in that it's apart from the main games. Why? They could never merge them together. Remember the troubles Bethesda had with multiple endings in Daggerfall? They ended having to pull a deus ex machina to explain it. Now, imagine all the possibilities present in an MMO. How would they deal with that? They can't. So, the MMO =/= regular TES canon. |

How so? How would it be non canon? Sorry, I just don't understand how it can't be merged. Like, what kind of possibilities? |

I may be wrong, but here's how I see it: In a single-player game the ultimate outcome will be the same. However, in a multiplayer game, that is not the case. Because of that, the multiplayer game won't be considered fully canon. |

You know how WoW has two sides which are constantly fighting? Well, just for the sake of argument, let's assume that the TES MMO is like that. Let's say that it takes place after the Oblivion Crisis and there are two or more sides with the various provinces at war for domination. The players then choose a side and can influence which side is currently winning. TES V is supposed to take place 200 years after Oblivion and, thus, far after our hypothetical MMO. Who won? Maybe the MMO has the Khajiit/Argonian alliance winning and killing off all non-beasts. Should TES V then take place in a world populated only by the beast races? But what if things change and Morrowind utilizes ancient Dwemer technology to wipe out all who stand in their way. How will TES V incorporate that? Free-range rpgs have a lot of sway for characters to choose their path, and free-rage MMOs take that even further. The games can easily over look players deciding to join one guild or another and just focus on the main details, but in an MMO where the actions sway the entire continent, that can't be overlooked. That's why an MMO must be in a separate canon from the main series. |
