The One Who Writes
|
One day on the seas of RuneScape, I was sailing my pirate ship, the Vengeance, when my crew spotted a strange island in the middle of the ocean. I was in my captain's quarters when I first heard the shout. "Land ho!" came the cry from the crow's nest. At first, I was skeptical. We weren't supposed to arrive at any land for several days. Most likely, I figured, it would be a false alarm. But, its always better to be safe than sorry, so I emerged from my quarters to investigate. Coming out of the darkness, the weather was perfect for sailing. A strong breeze, the sunlight shinning, the sea as gentle as a pirate drunk on Eastern Ale. Let me tell you, those landlubbers in the Eastern Lands sure know how to make a good ale! I reached into my coat and pulled out my hand-held telescope. Looking into it, far into the distance, I could see nothing...then suddenly there it was! A black outline on the horizon. A tiny spec against an endless horizon. "LAND HO!" I hollered out. A cry of cheer erupted from those present on the deck. Whatever laid on the island, it was soon going to be ours. I ordered my first mate, Gigo the Azhole (as he pronounces it) to take us straight for the island and alert me when we were about an hour out. In the mean time, I was going to retire for my quarters for a pirate nap until such time as we were much closer to the island. Some time later, I was awoken from my hammock by a pounding at my door. "What 'ye want?" I called out. "Captain, your presence is requested on the deck!" came back the reply. Mumbling to myself about the captain always being indeed, I stumbled out of my hammock and onto the deck. Outside, the sun had set some time ago, leaving only the moon and stars overhead. Directly ahead of the ship, no more than a few minutes out, was the island. I called to my first mate. He promptly arrived from the lower levels of the Vengeance. I nodded in his general direction, indicating I had seen him while keeping my eyes glaring at the island. "Captain, you called for me?" he said. "Yes. How many minutes would you say we are from making a landing with this island?" I replied coolly. "Fifteen minutes...or else, Captain." he said, stuttering midway through the sentence. "Gigo, you are not a stupid man, are you?" I said immediately. "No!" he shouted with a sudden outburst. "Yet, I'm forced to think that you. Did I leave you with specific orders to awake me from my slumber one prior to us arriving to the island?" "Captain...I..." "Say no more, Gigo." I now turned a looked at him. He was tall and strong, the best fighting pirate I had seen in a very long. "By your incompetence and stuttering, you admit you failed to follow orders. I do not allow my crew to be insubordinate. You are a good man, Gigo, and I have no wish to cast you out into the ocean. However, I cannot have an insubordinate crew mate, let alone first mate..." I paused, thinking of my logical options. Walking the plank was out of the question and sentencing him to the slave quarters were out of the question. I smiled, revealing white, clean teeth. "As such, i have decided that you are to spend the rest of your time on this ship as a pirate, nothing more and nothing less." He grimly nodded, clearly upset by the demotion, yet grateful I didn't cast him into the ocean as I did to the last first mate. "Now, Pirate Gigo, begone from my presence." He scurried off to do something, most likely get heavily drunk, leaving me alone. At this point, the Vengeance had stopped moving towards the island. My second mate, now first mate, Revilisisat, who we all called Evil Sat, had observed the conversation between myself and Gigo and knew that he was now the first mate. Evil Sat, unlike Gigo, could summarize any situation very well which is why he was now my first mate. Evil Sat gave out the call. "All hands to the deck!" Instantly, members of the crew emerged from various sections of the ship and began to run frantically around to their posts. Quickly, Evil Sat had the boarding boats lowered into the water with several dozen pirates total in the boats. He saved the last boat, my person boat, for myself and a few other pirates. I swiftly boarded the boat, while my pirates clamored into it. One of the pirates grabbed the oars as the boat was lowered into the water via the system of ropes and pulleys. We hit the water with a splash and the pirate with the oars instantly began to row towards the shore. Already, some of the other boats were almost to the shore. ((Since I have to go for a bit, this is where I am leaving the story off for now. Note, I have not included the picture into the story yet, but it will be coming up shortly.)) |
