Since the general board is looking empty, I'll repost some trivia from an earlier Pokemon thread on /m/. Maybe some other stuff as well. Volt Tackle is named Voltekka in Japan, after the signature move of Game Freak's previous game, Pulseman. Presumably, Pulseman got the name from Tekkaman. The games base their locations of the real geography of (primarily) Japan, the first one taking place in Kanto and Pallet Town being creator Satoshi Tajiri's hometown. The movies are also based off various real locations (Vancouver for Destiny Deoxys and Venice for another movie, for example). One of the companies behind Pokemon, Creature, was formerly known as Ape. Ape worked on Mother and Mother 2 (EarthBound). There's a few similarities to note in the first game: psychic powers, boy with a red hat, and final enemy being a powerful psychic creature resembling a cat and a fetus (Giegue / Mewtwo). In Gold and Silver, Mewtwo has left behind the Berserk Gene, resembling Giegue's ability to drive animals mad. Blue's also Pokey, if you think about it. He's your next door neighbour and your final enemy. He doesn't appear to have any other friends (though they both have one sibling they leave behind) aside from the boy in the red cap. They're always one step ahead, making fun of you and making things harder for you (well, Blue not so much, but he'll pop out at unexpected moments to kick your ass). The current president of Creatures is Hirokazu "Hip" Tanaka. He used to do music for Nintendo, including the music for the original Metroid, first two Mother (EarthBound) games, and early Fire Emblem. He worked on the music for the Pokemon anime at one point, and enjoyed it so much that he chose to leave Nintendo so he would work permanently with Pokemon. Gary is named after Shigeru Miyamoto, who mentored Satoshi Tajiri. Satoshi Tajiri supposedly had Asperger's syndrome. He played at a local arcade so much that they gave him a Pac-Man machine, "Game Freak" comes from the name of an old video game magazine he made personally. He sleeps for twelve hour periods after staying awake for twenty-four hours, and apparently looks like hell for it. Rhydon was the first Pokemon designed, but Mew was the first Pokemon-related copyright filled. Similarly to Scorpion from Mortal Kombat being hidden from the staff, Nintendo initially wasn't informed about Mew's existence. Tajiri claims that the Pokemon Special best represents the Pokemon world, and the CEO of The Pokemon Company feels that it's a must-read for fans of the series, |

I keep meaning to track down and read some of the Pokemon manga, but there's so much /m/ stuff on my to-watch/read list, that I always put it off. |

I know what you mean. :-/ On another note, I think I need to replay Fire Red, to get a good grasp on what this project is going to do. |
