"We're gonna head out for the Kindergarten Warp Pad and make sure nothing's changed or there's no new Gem monsters infesting the area again. The last time we left it unchecked, we had more than ten monsters running the place and it took us a month to clear them out. And by 'we', I mean me, because someone got poofed in the middle of a fight." Citrine said, with a mild bite to her tone. Bloodstone flushed green her top eyes swiveling over to Benitoite while her bottom eyes looked pleadingly at Citrine. "H-Hey, I thought we'd agreed to never bring that up again!" She half whined with a pout on her face. "Besides, it wasn't my fault! That Tourmaline snuck up on me!" "B, you're a Quartz warrior. Nothing's supposed to sneak up on you." Citrine countered, a ghost of a teasing smirk on her face. "You're a Quartz too!" Bloodstone huffed, sticking her tongue out at Citrine before clapping a hand on Benitoite's shoulder. "C'mon, Blue, let's get going before Citrine embarrasses me more. |

Benitoite nervously stepped onto the warp pad behind them, startling when light washed over them and he felt himself moving. It was as if they flew through the air, but before he knew it, he was standing in a canyon, looking around at towering rock walls with eerie holes cut out of them. He seemed to wilt as soon as he saw their surroundings. He resumed his position behind the two larger gems and averted eye contact. "What's the matter little guy?" Citrine asked. Bloodstone opened her mouth to add something when she heard a skittering sound. Her upper eyes flicked one way and her lower eyes the other way, and she saw a stream of pebbles rolling down the wall as a large dark shape ducked out of sight. "We've got company." Before Benitoite could blink, Bloodstone and Citrine had drawn their weapons. He hesitantly drew his own from his gem, hefting the large, bell shaped mace. "Come out come out, wherever you aaaaare," Bloodstone called, twirling her weapon. Citrine hissed at her. "You'll give away our advantage!" "Our advantage of the enemy having the high ground and us not knowing where or what it is?" Citrine rolled her eyes and nicked an arrow, scanning the cliff sides for movement. "This is a murder hole, C." Bloodstone whispered, trying not to let the shaky, smaller gem hear her. "I realize that, but-" Citrine began, before being knocked out of Bloodstone's line of sight by a long, green shape. "Citrine!" Bloodstone shouted, running towards her. "I'm fine." Citrine grumbled, picking herself up. "Did you see what hit me? Where is it?" "I- I don't know, it was moving too fast." Bloodstone said, her lower eyes locking on a large hole in the ground past where Citrine lay. "It looks like it's a burrower." "So why did it knock me over here?" Citrine said, puzzled. They heard a large crunch behind them and whipped around to see a pillar of green gemflesh strike out of the ground. It grasped Benitoite in its snakelike jaws, his arms raised with his weapon midstrike, and then plunge back into the ground, leaving nothing but a dust cloud and a gaping hole in the ground. |

"Benitoite!" Citrine and Bloodstone screeched, both immediately throwing down their weapons and rushing to the lip of the hole to peer down it. "Hey Blue, can you hear me?!" Bloodstone shouted, unable to see more than 5 feet down the hole that was probably much, much more deeper than five feet. Of course, there was no reply back, sending the Quartz into a bigger panic. "We've got to go down there and get him!" "We could be walking right into an ambush! There's no way either of us would be able to see more than a few feet in front of us, even with us lighting the path..." Citrine argued, though when Bloodstone stared pleadingly at her, she sighed and stared long and hard at the crater in thought. "Okay... Okay, we'll go down there, but we'll have to be on high alert. Push comes to shove, we fuse and take that monster down and save Benitoite as fast as we can, got it?" "Got it. I'll go first and light the way." Bloodstone said, rushing to grab her weapon before jumping down into the pit, falling for quite a while before finally landing. She lifted up her hand, the gem glowing and lighting up the cavern like a flashlight, revealing nothing so far except a few scratches along the sides here and there. "No sign of little B or that monster yet!" Bloodstone called up to Citrine, having to shout to be heard. "Come on down!" A few seconds later, Citrine came falling down the hole, landing softly on her feet and immediately readied an arrow in her bow, eyes scanning the area warily. "It's like a maze down here... how are we going to find Blue?" "Let's get moving and see if we can find any signs of a struggle. Follow that, and we'll find Benitoite." Citrine responded, her gemstone lighting up as well to provide a little bit of extra light to help see better. |

Benitoite looked around at the tight, dark confines around him, seeing only the faint blue glow of his gem. "B-Bl-loooodsst-t-t-tone? Cit-it-it-itriiiin-ne?" He said hesitantly, his voice sounding muffled even to himself. He sighed, his gem glowing dimmer as he resigned himself to return to solitude. Citrine's head whipped around at the slithering of gemflesh on rock. The next second it seemed to be coming from the opposite direction. "Where is this thing?" "Heck if I know," Bloodstone snarled, looking around in different directions with her four eyes. Citrine opened her mouth to respond and her eyes went wide as she saw the green gem hurtling down a tunnel directly behind Bloodstone. As she inhaled to scream, Bloodstone drew her weapon, spun, and slammed the head of her halberd into the side of the gem monster's head. Her blow knocked it off course and it flew right between Citrine and her, slamming into the cave wall. They paused as an ominous shudder ran through the tunnel system after the impact, dirt and small rocks raining down in patches. The green gem coiled itself, preparing to strike, gemstones glittering around its body. Citrine took a breath, and then let loose a sunrise colored arrow, piercing the snake square in the chest. The entire thing glowed white briefly, then shattered into a half dozen smaller snakelike figures, all slithering down different tunnels. Bloodstone watched as one snake with a suspicious bulge in its torso tried to scurry past her. She quirked an eyebrow and stabbed down with her halberd, piercing the gembeast's head and poofing it. Bennet flopped onto the ground, covered in greenish goo. "Eee-ee-eeeww" Bennet shuddered, looking up at his saviors with a mix of surprise and exhaustion. His gem had tiny cracks all over it as if it had been compressed with a great pressure. |

Both older gems eyes widened at the sight of the minuscule cracks decorating Benitoite's gemstone before immediately shooting to each other. "We need to get back to the Temple now before his gem gets damaged any further." Bloodstone decreed, returning her weapon back to her gemstone before kneeling to examine Benitoite. She had to slap away his own hands as they crept up to feel out the damage for himself, her four eyes narrowing in worry. "He'll be okay for now, right? He's not too..." Citrine questioned, but trailed off as she shuffled from foot to foot, occasionally glancing backwards as if one of the dozen smaller snakes would come back for the rest of them. "It's surface damage but I'm worried movement might make it worse..." Bloodstone answered, chewing at a lip in nervousness. "Okay, Blue, I don't want you pulling your weapon out with those cracks in your gem. You're fine, but if they get any bigger, especially with how many you've got in there, it'll split your gem wide open-" "Bloodstone!" Citrine snapped, her face going a little pale at her companion's words. She rolled her eyes as Bloodstone gave her an exaggerated shrug. "Let's just get out of here as quickly as possible. We damaged the tunnel structures and now with Benitoite damaged, a cave in would be dangerous right now." "We could always bubble him and send him back to the Temple if push comes to shove..." Bloodstone suggested with another shrug. "He'd be safe there until we get back." Citrine opened her mouth to argue the idea, but a glance to the small blue gem gently prodding at his gem with a wince caused her to reconsider and relinquish with a nod. "Only if we have to. Let's find a way out of these tunnels and take out the rest of those gem snakes if we see them." |

Benitoite watched as Bloodstone grabbed him by the sides of his rib cage and hoisted him onto her back. "Hang tight lil' guy, we got this." She said with a smirk in her voice. "We haven't survived this long out of luck." Citrine chimed in, her bow drawn and her eyes scanning the dim tunnels. He felt Bloodstone's shoulder thump rhythmically into his stomach as they walked on down the tunnel, his head pointed behind the other two gems. An ominous hissing echoed through the tunnel. Bloodstone and Citrine stopped immediately, but it was impossible to tell where it was coming from. "No problem," Bloodstone said confidently. "We wrecked that giant snake, why should we be afraid of the little ones?" "Yeah," Citrine added. "More of them, but much easier to poof." Benitoite listened as they resumed walking, his lanky form draped bonelessly over Bloodstone's shoulder. "There!" Citrine called, a melodic thrum signalling the use of her bow. "Oh, oh, there's more." Benitoite heard Citrine's bow release several more times in quick succession. Bloodstone shifted, her arms reaching up to grab him again. "Hey buddy, I'm gonna have to put you down for just a minute." Benoitoite nodded as she propped him up against the dirt wall. He watched her draw her weapons and slice down three Serpentite gems in quick succession. Citrine fired at the approaching gems, but, like Bloodstone, she had to keep repositioning herself to cover Benitoite, losing ground against the evasive green gems. Benitoite watched as Bloodstone turned back towards him, one set of eyes still on the attacking gem monsters. "We've got this," she said, poofing a small Serpentite as it launched itself at Benitoite. Benitoite smiled weakly at her. "You ca-can't watch the-em and m-me at the same time-ime." "Sure we can!" She rebuked him. "You wouldn't believe some of the battles we've been through." "It-t's okay-ay." Benitoite said haltingly. "I tru-ust you." He lurched forward into the path of one of the Serpentite gems and took a set of long, crystalline fangs to the chest. He exploded into a cloud of blue smoke, and his damaged gem tumbled through the air. |

A Serpentite gem tried to slither past the stunned Bloodstone and Citrine to gobble up Benitoite's gem, only for Bloodstone to snap out of her daze and stab her polearm through the serpent with a little more force than needed. It vanished with a poof of smoke and the gem swiftly scooped up the fallen, slightly cracked blue gemstone. "Citrine, listen to me, we need to get out of here now!" Bloodstone yelled, watching as more and more Serpentite gems slithered out of nowhere, advancing on the two warriors. Getting no response from the other gem, Bloodstone's top eyes glanced over to her to see that Citrine was staring at Benitoite's gem with a look of shock on her face, unmoving and bow nearly slipping out of her hands. "Citi!" Bloodstone barked, her voice echoing through the tunnels and startling the smaller gem out of her stupor. "Focus and listen to me! I'm going to bubble the two of you and send you back to the temple! When you get there, keep Benitoite bubbled until I get back and heal him. Don't let him reform, got it?" "B-But I can't leave you here to fight on your own!" Citrine protested as Bloodstone passed her Benitoite's gem, but it became muffled halfway through as a darkish red bubble suddenly engulfed her. "Promise me you'll get back safely." Bloodstone grinned, hoisting her polearm onto her shoulder. "When have I ever let you down? I'll be back soon!" She said, before tapping the top of the bubble, which suddenly disappeared in a minuscule burst of light. (At the Temple...) Back at the Temple, within a room containing a multitude of bubbled gems, Bloodstone's newest bubble appeared with a flash of light and floated serenely in the air with Citrine and Benitoite's gem safely inside. Citrine extended a hand to the bubble's surface, causing it to pop and drop the small gem to the ground. She quickly made a bubble of her own to contain Benitoite, which would keep him safe and stable until Bloodstone returned to heal him. Citrine let out a shaky exhale as she clutched the bubble to her, adrenaline leaving her shaky and slightly high strung. "Don't worry, little blue, we'll get you all fixed up in no time. Just hang tight, okay?" She spoke to the bubbled gem, settling down on the floor to patiently wait for Bloodstone. |
