Beach City was a nice little town, quiet, friendly people, lots of things to see and do, lots of food to eat. Hm, food to eat... "Hey, Citi, we should get some fry bits after we wrap up here!" Bloodstone called to her partner, currently aiming a formidable looking bow at a target. The orange gem was visibly taken aback for a second, aim slipping before she refocused. "What, seriously?" She chastised, firing a jagged looking crystal arrow at a target before ducking under what appeared to be a scorpion's tail made out of blue colored gems. "Are you really thinking about food at a time like this?" She gestures to their uninvited guest. A screech filled the air as a quadrupedal monster, roughly 10 feet tall and covered in electric blue crystals stomped a gem clawed paw in the sand, electric blue drool dripping from its maw as it glared down at the two figures attacking it. Citrine's arrow was lodged in a shoulder. "What? I'm hungry!" Bloodstone pouted, dodging the deadly stinger by jumping into the air as the monster struck at her, slashing her weapon downwards and delivering a painful slice to its back. It howled in pain, blue spittle flying into the air before the entire being simply went up in smoke with an audible "poof!", a Flourite gemstone hovering in the air for a second before falling to earth. "You ate literally 10 minutes ago." Citrine said, rolling her eyes a bit though she had a smile on her face, catching the gemstone in an orange bubble created with a wave of her hands. "Besides, we're Gems. We don't need to eat." "You eat too." Bloodstone countered, sticking her green tongue out at her. Her polearm like weapon disappeared in a flash of light, leaving her arms free to lightly elbow her companion. "Only because you make me. Now then, we should get back to the temple before people come investigate." Citrine said, already casting a glance behind her, where civilization lay quite nearby. "We were lucky we managed to stop this thing before it got too close." "Eh, you worry too much, Citi!" Bloodstone said with a shrug, taking the bubbled gem and dispelling it. "Now come on! There's a bag of fry bits with my name on it calling and I need to answer it!" "Dork." Citrine sighed, but followed behind calmly as Bloodstone raced ahead. |

Bloodstone could almost see the fry bits swimming tenderly at the bottom of the fryer when suddenly something blue smashed into her, knocking her through a souvenir shop. "Bloodstone!" Citrine shouted, bounding over to her. "Are you alright?" She called, throwing aside chunks of wall and broken Beach City mugs. When she got inside she saw Bloodstone holding up a gangly gem by the back of their blue jacket. "You have one chance to explain why you attacked me." Bloodstone snarled. The blue gem merely pointed behind the other two gems. Citrine flipped her orange hair over her shoulder as she turned around. Her mane of hair cleared her line of sight just in time to see the legs of a huge, raspberry colored gem monster. A leg on the monster kicked Citrine down the street. "HEY YOU!" Bloodstone shouted, leaping out of the wrecked shop. "You mess with her, you mess with me!" She looked up to see a three story tall magenta monster reminiscent of an earth crab. The blue gem followed her out of the wreckage, jumping into the air with a hand to the blue gem in its throat. It proceeded to pull out a large, hollow, mace-like weapon. The gem swung it and a tempest arced towards the crab, blowing it into the side of a building. Before the monster could react, the mace came down on its head with a sound like a gong. It staggered briefly, but its armor was thick, and it swung it's meaty claw at the airborne gem, slapping it through a wall and turning its attention to Bloodstone. |

Bloodstone bared her teeth with a snarl, electricity crackling in her hair as she glared up at the crab monster. "Why don't you pick on someone your own size?!" She snarled, grabbing a spindly leg and heaving with all her might to throw the crab away from the buildings behind her, leaving it to fall back to earth and slam into the sand on its back. The monster screeched, electricity coursing through it from Bloodstone's body, leaving it convulsing and writhing on its back for a few moments. "Citrine! Are you okay?" Bloodstone called, jogging over to her fallen comrade and plucking her from the sea of rubble. "Yeah, I'm fine..." Citrine coughed, wincing a bit as she rolled her shoulders to ease a bit of pain there. "Just caught me off guard. I'm okay, though." The orange gem gets to her feet, brushing dust and bits of debris off of herself as she summoned her bow, readying an arrow as the monster finally managed to struggle to its feet with a slightly strained growl. "How are we going to get through that armor?" Citrine asked Bloodstone, keeping a wary eye on the monster as it scuttled towards them, claws clicking menacingly. "If push comes to shove, we can form Ammolite." She replied, readying her own weapon as the monster got closer. "For now, we've got to find a weak spot. That thing can't have armor everywhere, right?" |

Citrine ran around the beast, firing arrows at potential weak spots. The arrows pinged off the thick armor as it tried to spin around and crush either Bloodstone or Citrine. Bloodstone hacked at the legs, and managed to throw her shoulder into one hard enough to knock the gem monster onto its back again. "Ha HA! Take that, ugly!" Bloodstone crowed, leaping onto the stomach and stabbing down with her halberd. She barely scratched the gem's tough armor, despite her energetic and ferocious stabbing. "I've got an idea!" Citrine called out. "Bloodstone, go jab your sphere at the foreleg joint. Other, bluish gem! Git the end of the spear with your mallet thingy!" Bloodstone leaped into the air and buried her halberd a few inches into the softer meat at the joint. Benitoite dropped down from the top of a building and swung his mallet onto the end of the halberd. There was a loud rush of air as the gem dematerialized into a poof of smoke and a deep, raspberry colored gem dropped to the ground. Citrine rushed over to bubble it and teleported it back to their base of operations. The blueish gem sidled up to them, looking from one gem to the other. |

"Soooo." Bloodstone drawled, attempting to run a hand through her wild mane of hair. "What do we do with Little Blue here?" Citrine folded her arms in thought as she stared off into the distance for a moment, before turning to Bloodstone with an excited grin. "Why don't we keep him?" She proposed, drawing an exasperated look from Bloodstone and a confused expression from the other Gem. "Citi, he's not a dog, we can't just 'keep him'." Bloodstone said with a sigh, though she chuckled at the mildly sour expression the blue gem had given Citrine. "Besides, he wouldn't have a room at the Temple. Where would he stay? And we don't even know who he is in the first place." "I know he's not a dog, but he's still a Gem!" Citrine argued, throwing an arm around the other gem and seemingly oblivious to the annoyed expression she was getting from him. "Gems stick together, right? And besides, he helped us with that corrupted Gem just now, didn't he?" "You could at least let him speak for himself, Citi." Bloodstone prompted gently. "So, Blue, what do you say? That mouth of yours for show, or are you gonna tell us your life story?" |

Benitoite shrugged, and blushed deep blue. "C'mon, speak!" Bloodstone said, patting him roughly on the back. "I- I'm B-Benitoite-ite..." the smaller gem said reluctantly, his voice a bizarre echo. "He... kinda sounds like dubstep." Citrine said, covering her mouth right after. "PFAH~!" Bloodstone gasped, falling into laughter. Benitoite went indigo. Citrine looked apologetic (but still amused) and Bloodstone put an arm around his shoulders. "Okay, I'm with you, we're keeping the string bean." Benitoite looked from gem to gem, not sure if he should be happy or worried. Nevertheless, he followed them back to what they called "The Temple," listening to boisterous stories of their exploits in Beach City, and all the best places to eat, though why a gem would need to know these things he wasn't sure. They rounded a rock face on the beach, and his eyes went wide at the sight they beheld. |

Carved into the hillside was a magnificent Gem Warrior, posed serenely with long, flowing hair and eight arms all set in different positions. Four were clasped around the Gem's navel, where a warp pad and door carved into the rocky hillside itself rested, adorned with a star featuring two gems at two different points. The other four were spread out around the figure, but several had fallen into decay and were missing, leaving only one, fully intact hand remaining. "Welcome to the Temple, Blue!" Bloodstone said, sweeping a hand towards the magnificent structure. "It's been our base of operations here for... oh gosh, nearly thousands of years now." "We think it's the one surviving Gem Temple left on Earth after..." Citrine started, her expression falling for a second as she wrapped her hands around herself suddenly. "After... the War." Bloodstone quickly ran over to Citrine, wrapping an arm around the smaller Gem in a comforting way. Her expression had turned somewhat dark as well, her top eyes looking up at the Temple while the bottom two focused on Citrine. "But it survived just like we did." Bloodstone murmured, patting Citrine on the shoulder before all four eyes swiveled over to Benitoite with a forced grin on her face. "And it looks like we're not the only Gems here on Earth after all! I say this calls for a celebration!" Citrine swatted Bloodstone on the shoulder suddenly, drawing a surprised grunt from the taller Gem. "First, we need to get Benitoite a room in the Temple." She reminded her before turning to the blue gem. "Just stand in front of the door and hold your gem up to it. The Temple'll take care of the rest!" |

Benitoite bent down and bared his throat to the door. In a flash of light, one point of the star began to glow blue. His eyes widened and he stepped forward, the door parting before him. As he walked into the light, his vision cleared to reveal spires of rock jutting up from an endless, cloudy dropoff. Straight ahead, just above the cloud level, there was a dais of flat rock with a lip like the edge of a dormant volcano. Inside the depression were piles of lush blue pillows and blankets. Benitoite dropped into the void and glided down to the surface as if in a daze. He promptly swan dived into one of the piles and disappeared. Citrine and Bloodstone blinked in surprise as the door closed and turned to look at each other. |

"I guess that means Blue digs his new home!" Bloodstone said with a grin, flashing a wink at Citrine with her top eyes. "I don't blame him, the Temple really outdid itself with making his room." Citrine didn't respond right away, her expression somewhat brooding. Bloodstone blinked, her earlier mirth draining away into a more serious attitude as she seemed to pick up on what Citrine is thinking. "You think there's other Gems out there?" She questioned gently, placing a hand on the smaller Gem's shoulder. "Ones that survived the War?" "We don't even know if Benitoite was part of the War." Citrine pointed out with a frown, folding her arms and glancing towards the door. "He looks too young to have been involved in the War." Bloodstone frowned, suddenly realizing that the blue Gem did seem to be a bit newer compared to the two of them at least. "So, do you think he might've come from a Kindergarten?" She questioned softly. "For all we know, he could've popped out late and was wandering around until he came here." "That's... a possibility. But if there are other surviving Gems out there, we should find them." "So, we're going on a little field trip tomorrow? We bringing Blue?" Bloodstone questioned with a tilt of her head. "But... what are we going to do if we run into another Gem? A... A Homeworld Gem?" "The War's been over for thousands of years." Citrine said, though she looked fairly unconfident in her words. "They'd have no reason to fight us anymore..." A tense silence fell over the two Gems before Citrine shook her head slightly. "...We should get some rest before tomorrow. It's a long walk to the Kindergarten Warp Pad." She said softly, turning to the Temple Door and baring the Gem on her stomach to it. The orange gem on one of the points on the star carving lit up, the door swinging open to Citrine's room, an expanse of glittering stone caves and small pools of water lined with sand hot to the touch, which she quickly stepped into before the door shut again. Bloodstone sighed, running a hand through her hair. She knew Citrine was afraid of running into other Gems, the War having hit her especially hard as she'd lost many a close friend to both Homeworld and corruption. Benitoite was a welcome sight for sure, but Bloodstone knew that the fear of having another War break out was something Citrine always feared. Bloodstone held out her gem on her right hand to the door, the corresponding point on the star glowing before the door to her own room opened up into a stormy landscape of jagged cliffs and crags. |

Benitoite exited the newly created room the next day, hair ruffled and gem shining happily between the two sides of a jacket. He spun around and after looking around , hesitantly knocked on the star shaped door. He didn't hear any response, so he left the temple to go on a walk. There were pieces of the once magnificent temple strewn along the beach. he climbed up onto a massive stone arm and scanned the beach. He saw no humans, no gem beasts. Seagulls circled, and small crabs scuttled across the beach, but for all intense and purposes, he was alone. He sat on the arm and stared out to sea for some time before he heard a voice calling. ...toite! Benitoite!" He turned around to see the warm, orange colored gem from the previous day coming down the beach, worry fading to relief on her face as the green and red gem trotted to catch up. "I told you we'd find him, you worry too much." Bloodstone chastised her. Citrine sighed, "The first uncorrupted gem we meet in who knows how long, and we lose him in one night." "What am I, a Kindergarten technician?" Citrine sighed again in relief as they neared Benitoite and he gave them a little wave. Bloodstone nudged her with her elbow, "So, now that we've got him, what do we do with him?" |
