Sorella:

Sorella isn't a character: she's you, or you as you'd like to be. She is so impossibly hip that she has difficulty seeing over her own pelvis; she'll probably die young, but damn, will it have been a good life. She always knew she was special, destined for great things - and probablyf made sure everyone else knew it too. She's had a rough life - to say the least! Angst? Histronics? Her speciality. And you've been pretty kind to her, always ready to intercede on her behalf and give her a nice easy victory.

You identify far too heavily with Sorella, and defend her from all sides, never realizing that in your quest to make her perfect you are alienating your readers. Back off and take a break. Try writing the story from the viewpoint of a different character, one you have less sympathy with... or writing a different story and coming back to this one.

>_> I don't think I identify with Sorella so much... yeah, she's my favorite of all characters I've created, but... I dunno, this does not fit!

Kara:

Kara is suspiciously similar to you as you'd like to be. She may be popular, or she may not, but no matter what she's impossible to ignore; she stands out... just the way you always wanted to. She always knew she was special, destined for great things - and probablyf made sure everyone else knew it too. She's had a rough life - to say the least! Angst? Histronics? Her speciality. And you've been sparing with the free handouts: whatever she gains, she's worked for.

You may have let yourself get a little too close to Kara. Maybe she's you as you wish you were, or maybe you're just afraid no one will like her and are trying to give her a free ride. Have some confidence in your writing! Kara is a good character. Give her room to be herself before you stifle her.

I don't think I want to have lived in Amestris, have my sister taken hostage and held captive, and then be molested every other day... Sure, she's cool and I always wished I was cool and could kick butt like she does, but other than that... nooooooot so much wanna be like her.

Shiro:

Shiro is only a little like you. He isn't really very cool: he blends into crowds, he hangs out on the fringes at parties, and wearing shades after dark makes him run into things. He may have sometimes thought that he was special, or destined for greater things, but probably dismissed the idea as a fantasy. He's had a rough life - to say the least! Angst? Histronics? His speciality. And you've been sparing with the free handouts: whatever he gains, he's worked for.

Mary Sue test! I think you're lying!

Ara:

Ara is nothing like you (THANK GOD. IF THAT HAD SAID I WAS LIKE HER, I WOULD NEVER LIVE IT DOWN). She is so impossibly hip that she has difficulty seeing over her own pelvis; she'll probably die young, but damn, will it have been a good life. She may have sometimes thought that she was special, or destined for greater things, but probably dismissed the idea as a fantasy. She's got no emotional scars to speak of. And you've been pretty kind to her, always ready to intercede on her behalf and give her a nice easy victory.

In general, you care deeply about Ara, but you're smart enough to let her stand on her own, without burdening her with your personal fantasies or propping her up with idealization and over-dramatization. Ara is a healthy character with a promising career ahead of her.

Wh... what...? What...? She's... she's healthy...? I don't think being a sex addict is healthy, Mary Sue Test. If anything, she'll die from an STD. And she's noooooooot really looking at her OWN pelvis, if you catch my meaning, Mary Sue Test.

Sarah:

Sarah is only a little like you. She isn't really very cool: she blends into crowds, she hangs out on the fringes at parties, and wearing shades after dark makes her run into things. She may have sometimes thought that she was special, or destined for greater things, but probably dismissed the idea as a fantasy. She's come in for her share of hurt, but gotten off with minor damage. And you've been sparing with the free handouts: whatever she gains, she's worked for.

In general, you care deeply about Sarah, but you're smart enough to let her stand on her own, without burdening her with your personal fantasies or propping her up with idealization and over-dramatization. Sarah is a healthy character with a promising career ahead of her.

Mary Sue Test, you're wrong! Sarah is VERY cool! I made her that way on purpose! She doesn't blend into crowds, she's the one that MAKES the crowd in the first place! I do let her stand on her own, though...

Julie is only a little like you. She isn't really very cool: she blends into crowds, she hangs out on the fringes at parties, and wearing shades after dark makes her run into things. She may have sometimes thought that she was special, or destined for greater things, but probably dismissed the idea as a fantasy. She's got no emotional scars to speak of. And she's gotten no slack from you.

In general, you care deeply about Julie, but you're smart enough to let her stand on her own, without burdening her with your personal fantasies or propping her up with idealization and over-dramatization. Julie is a healthy character with a promising career ahead of her.

"To be loved by her is the kiss of doom." gave me a hard time, but I eventually decided that knowing Julie was the kiss of doom, and that's not quite the same thing.

Ester is only a little like you. She may be popular, or she may not, but no matter what she's impossible to ignore; she stands out... just the way you always wanted to. She may have sometimes thought that she was special, or destined for greater things, but probably dismissed the idea as a fantasy. She's got no emotional scars to speak of. Richard is only a little like you. He is not at all cool; in fact, he thinks cool is a temperature reading, and when he says "Oh, I just put on whatever old thing's lying around," he means "on the floor, where I threw it last night - but I turned the underwear inside out first." He may have sometimes thought that he was special, or destined for greater things, but probably dismissed the idea as a fantasy. He's got no emotional scars to speak of. And he's gotten no slack from you.

In general, you've kept yourself a goodly distance from Richard and given him plenty of room - maybe a little too much. Don't distance yourself so far from Richard that you stop caring what happens to him.

Score Breakdown
I Love Him, I Let Him Go 7
He's The Anti-Cool 1

By proxy:

Ratz isn't a character: she's you, or you as you'd like to be. She is so impossibly hip that she has difficulty seeing over her own pelvis; she'll probably die young, but damn, will it have been a good life. She'd have to be pretty dense to miss the signs that she is destined for great things; she can hardly take a walk without tripping over a sword in a stone or a mysterious old woman wanting to tell her fortune. She's had a rough life - to say the least! Angst? Histronics? Her speciality. And you've been sparing with the free handouts: whatever she gains, she's worked for.

You identify far too heavily with Ratz, and defend her from all sides, never realizing that in your quest to make her perfect you are alienating your readers. Back off and take a break. Ker did one on my computer, so here it is:

Veren is suspiciously similar to you as you'd like to be. He isn't really very cool: he blends into crowds, he hangs out on the fringes at parties, and wearing shades after dark makes him run into things. He may have sometimes thought that he was special, or destined for greater things, but probably dismissed the idea as a fantasy. He's come in for his share of hurt, but gotten off with minor damage. And he's gotten no slack from you.

In general, you care deeply about Veren, but you're smart enough to let him stand on his own, without burdening him with your personal fantasies or propping him up with idealization and over-dramatization. Veren is a healthy character with a promising career ahead of him.
