The Mystery Dungeon series, Nintendo picked a decent spin-off there, right? But, was it all as simple as slapping "Pokemon" in front of the title for it to sell, or was it the game itself? What I mean to ask is; Was the fame and sales the spin-off series received down to the hype of the Pokemon franchise or did it also come down to the game's design, mechanics and concept? I'm really unsure on where I stand on this. I imagine that Nintendo would benefit simply by using the Pokemon franchise as a way to hype up almost unknown series of any sort. I can't decide whether, in my opinion, it was simply the franchise hype or a combination of that and reaching out to a wider market of gamers who enjoy these games. Perhaps it was down to the games being well made that gave Nintendo such a reliable income. A Pokemon FPS would sell reliably for them, also, simply because it would be Pokemon allowing any serious fanboys to purchase it. However, if such a game was designed and produced well it would sell even better. Share your views on this, if you decipher this post of complete rambling. |
