Since I'm not exactly feeling like continuing my tournament just yet (you can blame my Muse for that; the finicky las has been persistently refusing to bestow new inspiration upon me as of late), let's fill in the void by reenacting one of my childhood nightmares: the Mortal Kombat 1 boss rush. Well, at least when it came to fighting Goro, as Shang Tsung was relatively a walk in the park. The latter simply lacked the infuriating difficulty of his right hand, let alone the intimidating posture and demeanor. My heart always began to beat faster once the Endurance gauntlet was completed, and the body of your final opponent became consumed by flames, signalling the imminent showdown with the game's terrifying sub-boss. The ominous atmosphere would grow, as the camera began to move slightly towards the center of the stage, only to finally explode with a stupendous charge of fear and panic, as Goro suddenly dropped into the dungeon through the ceiling. Ah, sweet nostalgia... Anywho, a few words on Omegapsycho's take on the MK1 boss duo. I find Goro to be a pretty challenging foe, not perhaps uber tough, but still, expect to break a sweat while fighting him. His long range and rather annoying grapples can really get one's nerves, especially when locked in a corner. Shang Tsung on the other hand...is an absolute pushover. Seriously. Observe how his default form behaves: back away, spam fireballs, teleport upon reaching the stage's boundary...and that's it. It slightly improves once Shang morphs into another fighter, but since it's pretty easy to knock him back into his original body, he doesn't pose much of a threat. |
