Trader of Radat
Name: Shu

Age: 25 (Born Solar Year 435)

Star: Tenki - The Star of Wisdom

Hometown: Radat

Occupation: Trader / Military Strategist

Weapon: As a trader by profession and a strategist by training, Shu has learned many skills over the years, however fighting is not one of them. While he knows basic swordsmanship like many people in the world, he would be hard pressed in a real battle against veteran soldiers. Shu's success as a trader has afforded him the luxury of being able to hire mercenaries and bodyguards of reasonably high quality in situations where he does not feel safe, so this further explains the reason why he does not choose to master a weapon.

Runes:

Head: None
R. Hand: None
L. Hand: None

Class and MP Tier: Battle Artist 7/4/3/1

Character Description: Posted Image

Shu's facial features would lead people to believe he is young and unexperienced, but the reality is few know of the vast skill he has in the realm of military strategy. His brown eyes always give off a cool and collected air, never showing signs of worry or distress. Shu's long black hair is tied into a ponytail that hangs about halfway down his his back, with two small flares of hair on either side of his face that are not tied in with the rest of the tail.

Being a successful trader, Shu certainly has the money to reflect that status in the attire he wears. His choice of clothing also gives away the fact that he is not the kind of person who prefers not to engage in direct combat. His black shoes, while comfortable and easy to move around in, are hardly worthy of handling heavy marching or serious combat action. His white slacks would become stained and ruined within mere minutes of engaging in a real fight, and the majority of his whole outfit for that matter is of light colors, not well suited to a soldier's life. His multi-layered jacket consists of black sleeves and and light blue trim. Underneath this jacket is another light blue jacket and a white collared shirt, all pieces of clothing evident of Shu's role as a man who does not live the life of a warrior. Lastly, his crimson scarf and silver and gold belts top off his outfit.

Biography: The young trader Shu spent much of his youth attending Mathiu Silverberg's school in Seika Village of the Scarlet Moon Empire (now Toran Republic). Shu was selected personally by Mathiu for instruction due to the promise Mathiu saw in Shu. Mathiu saw that someone like Shu could be a great strategist of the Silverberg tradition and much of Shu's time spent at Mathiu's school was aimed at just that.

While attending Mathiu's school, Shu befriended a young girl by the name of Apple. Although she was not as gifted as Shu was in the arts of strategy, the two quickly became close to each other, resembling a brother-sister relationship. This made things especially hard on the two when Shu was banished from Mathiu's academy. Despite having the talent he had, Shu quickly became bored with his studies and the rate at which the other students progressed, and he began engaging in using his talents for personal gain, at which point Mathiu had no choice but to cast him out of the school. Apple was quite upset and wondered why Shu chose the road he did, and although he felt the same way, he didn't let his emotions show at the time.

After leaving Mathiu's school, Shu moved north to Jowston and set himself up as a trader in Radat. He quickly built up an impressively successful business using the talents he obtained from Mathiu, and became quite wealthy in the process. Although he still had regrets from his days with Mathiu and Apple, Shu knew it was too late to go back and do anything about it. Mathiu and Apple had joined the Toran Liberation Army in their fight to free the Scarlet Moon Empire and Mathiu had died during the final battle. Perhaps his biggest regret was that his former teacher died and he was unable to tell him how he really felt. Despite all this, Shu was busier than ever with his trading business now that the Toran Republic was established and trying to grow into a fully recognized nation.

Although Shu has the raw talent to be a great strategist, he seems to be quite content with his current life as a successful trader, and has no plans to change that. The most recent events of his business trip to Muse might shake his perception of the world and his place in it, however. Thanks to some issues at the docks of Kuskus, Shu had to personally travel to Muse by land in order to conclude a high profile business deal, and encountered a rather strange sight along the way. He found the wounded bodies of two teenage boys washed up near the town of Toto, and despite being quite busy with his latest business venture, he could not very well leave them to die on their own. He and his associates brought them to Toto's inn, fearing any attempt to move them more would result in more serious injury.

Upon examing the two boys, Shu realized they were injured pretty severely by arrows and needed highly skilled medical care, so he ordered a few men to go on ahead to Muse to fetch Dr. Huan and let his business contact know they'd be arriving a little later. Although Shu believed the incident to be a case of a simple bandit attack, he wanted to find out the origin if possible so that an attack like this wouldn't repeat itself. To that end, Shu also sent someone back to Radat to hire the skilled local detective Richmond to investigate the incident, providing him with pieces from several of the arrows as a starting point for his investigation.

As far as Shu is concerned, this event changes nothing for him and he simply plans to help these boys recover and then he can go back to business as usual, but fate has a strange way of messing with one's plans and even Shu can't predict where the road ahead will lead.

Personality: Shu is an extremely calm and collected individual. While not afraid to speak his mind and say whatever needs to be said, he also understands the concept of tact. Shu's strategic nature leads him to analyze every situation he is in, not proceeding into blind territory without so much as a contingency plan. This means it is very difficult to catch someone like Shu off of his guard, but should someone accomplish that feat, they'd be a fool not to take full advantage of the situation.

When Shu sets his mind to something, he is very dedicated to it. Causes he devotes himself to obtain his utmost loyalty and the full extent of his skillset. Shu is a decisive person, and is not afraid to utilize a strategy which may seem reckless and foolhardy to some, but that does not mean he is a foolish or reckless person. All of his strategies are thoroughly planned out, and Shu will not execute a plan if he does not think it will succeed.

Shu may come off as cold and uncaring to many, but the reality is he does have feelings, he just generally keeps them well hidden. He has regrets about what happened years ago at Mathiu's school, and still cares for Apple, but knows he can't change the past so it does no good to dwell on it. The only thing he knows he can affect is his own present and the future, and that's what he works toward.

RP Sample:

Sitting down in the tavern that is contained within Toto's inn, Shu and several of his business associates were discussing how to handle the interesting twist fate has handed them on their business trip to Muse.

"So Shu, what should we do about these two boys we found? We are very busy and can't afford to waste time taking care of them..." One of Shu's men chimed in while the group was enjoying a round of drinks and unwinding for the night.

"You're right about that, but it's starting to get late and we wouldn't make it very far, so we might as well wait until morning to set out again. By that time the local doctor will be here and will be able to take care of them, until then can't hurt to stick around for the night." Shu was enjoying a drink with his associates as they discussed the two wounded boys they found washed up on the riverside near Toto.

"I suppose you're right, Shu. We might as well take it easy tonight since Muse is our next stop and as far as I know only the White Deer Inn sits along the way, no other towns to stop at." One of Shu's associates chimed in while finishing up his drink, looking around at the local residents who were also trying to unwind from a hard day's work.

"I am curious though as to what happened to those two boys, they don't seem much older than 15 or 16..." Shu wondered aloud as he finished the drink in front of him, motioning for the bartender for a refill. "More than likely bandits I'd gather, but I must say it's rather reckless for two boys to be messing around on their own like that. Perhaps I'll take a look and see if either one of them is awake. Maybe I can find out what happened..."

As Shu got up from his seat, he waved off one of his associates that got up with him. "Don't worry, I'm just going upstairs to check on them, you all can relax the rest of the night. Tomorrow we make for Muse."

Shu made his way towards the other side of the inn where the stairs were located, passing by the innkeeper as he proceeded to climb the stairs towards the room where the two wounded boys were resting. Although Shu saw these boys as a mere distraction to his trade mission to Muse, basic human nature urged him to at least make sure they were okay before continuing on. Also, Shu was curious as to what really happened to them, even if he wouldn't admit it out loud.

Looks great to me! I'm really looking forward to seeing the way you write Shu in the RP itself, especially with everything we've discussed so far.
