Preliminary Issues

Upon initial read-throughs, I have some preliminary concerns that I'd like to leave somewhat up to you guys. The first thing we need to do is decide which tier the Chronicle will be. Here's a quick glance.

Tier 1 - Each hunter has no affiliation with any hunter organization (or other hunters) whatsoever.
Tier 2 - Each hunter is at least loosely affiliated with a local Compact of hunters. Compacts are local only.
Tier 3 - Each hunter is aligned with a global Conspiracy. Conspiracies differ from Compacts as Conspiracies are worldwide, and usually centuries old.

Personally, I'd like to run a Tier 3 game for two main reasons. The first is that Endowments are not available to hunters that are not aligned with a conspiracy (and hunting without Endowments would be like being a vamp without Disciplines). Secondly, Tier 3 doesn't imply that beginning characters have any experience earned prior to the Chronicle. I was really hesitant about going Tier 3 because I was worried it would grant the characters powers too early, and we'd all be jumping into the game too fast. But because it doesn't mean players get bonus experience or anything, I'm totally for Tier three. It's also much more interesting on my end if the characters have at least a Rolodex.

However, here's the sitch. I'm also wondering where you guys stand on the Conspiracy thing. Let me expand. Do you all want to run characters in the same Conspiracy so that you're all connected? Or would you rather choose your Conspiracy for your character and make the cell (which is the name for the party) like a joint effort from different conspiracies? Also, does the concept of inventing a Conspiracy from scratch (as outlined in the guide) interest you at all? Did anything I just said make any sense? You decide!

I've come to like already knowing the party. I'm not a terrible fan of everyone wandering around aimlessly until some loose connection brings them together in some artificial way. Making characters together with, at least, the attitude that the party will work together. They don't all have to be best buds, but cooperation in backgrounds is a nice way to kick things off.

As for tier I couldn't really care less. Though the arguments given for Tier 3 make it sound the best, but I'd be willing and happy to go any way.

... All I can think of is that the Rolodex is some Hunter version of the pokedex...

Yeah. I agree. I wasn't planning on the party not knowing each other. I might have them introduced right at the beginning, but I'm not going to do the ol' overly dramatic grand entrance for each character. It's cheesy and it wastes time as characters hunt for each other instead of hunting baddies.

The official decision: We will run a Tier 3 campaign. The characters will know each of other at the beginning of the game, but may or may not know the other characters are hunters, depending on the case. The characters might be presuming that the other characters are normal humans until they find out differently. Also, it will be a multiple-Conspiracy game. Players are not required to be a part of the same Conspiracy.
