This can be in terms of skill, looks, personality, fun, or whatever else you can think of. I enjoyed Cyuss because of his personality.

Ashlay. Hands down..

I tried both. And personally I think Ashlay's personality is much more cooler. Like the fabled veteran of the demonic wars. Wait.. He is the Fabled Veteran of the Demonic Wars. What did Cuis ever do? Drink beer all day that's what, While is father was off helping Ashlay fight demons probably from the demon world. Anyway. Not only is Ashlay cool. He gets you the Wrym Skills. And he also gets you Eris (Not included in snes roms)

I haven't even seen Ashlay so I can say with confidence CIUS!!!! Sure, he loves to drink, but who doesn't? :P I feel they could have not put so much emphasis on it though. Still love his personality though, he's so animated and he's got a lot of dialogue.

After playing it the first time I didn't think I'd like whoever Ashlay is more, because Cyuss is pretty good in battle and his bar scenes are a laugh.

They hare similarities no doubt (particularly arguing with that dodgy Master XD)

But Ashlay has him covered for sure, he is just as good - if not better in battle. I found that Cyuss tended to lose HP on me really quickly in battles, whereas Ashlay handles himself a bit better in that area, perhaps just coincidence but I'm liking it more.

I love his PA's more too, he drinks the good stuff - and can handle it too unlike Cyuss, but he has more then that. His argument with Puffy was hilarious too.

The only thing I don't like is how he says "My Boy" quite often to Roddick, that gets annoying after a while.

How do you recruit Ashlay? I've already seen Cyuss get mad at the Master and leave, but I haven't talked to him.

I didn't get Ashlay in my game, but I do know that you recruit him at Tatroi arena. To get him, you must refuse Cyuss when asked if you want him to join the party and when you go to Astral (after the Pirates hideout I think), you must go via the docks instead of Astral Caves. When you get to Tatroi, talk to Ashlay in the audience stands of the arena and then clear a rank with Roddick. Then go to the docks in Tatroi and talk to Ashlay.

Yep, that is how you get him indeed. 'Tis a real shame you can't get both in the same party really. :/

To extend, if you do not allow Cyuss to join when your able to, and you don't get Ashlay either via the Tatroi arena events that will lead to a possible earlier recruitment of Phia instead. Either way, the game makes sure you get one of the Highlanders in your party fairly early in the game.

I would say Ashlay is slightly better, although the both of them are powerful allies. Ashlay learns Phoenix Blast relatively early on, and that's a pretty useful skill. Anyway, Ashlay is a better party member, but Cyuss is a better character.

Oh, this is so simple: Ashlay. I never even bothered getting Cyuss. But I never even bothered using Ashlay. You can get Erys (the best healer and offensive Symbologist) if you get Ashlay. You will kill Erys if you have Cyuss. You can get the Wyrm King SFT (and learn the three Thundersurges) is you have Ashlay. You get nothing if you have Cyuss. That pretty much sums it up.

But Cyuss does have an interesting personality. I've played through several times and seen most of the characters, except Welch Vineyard and Erys Jerand, and I hear they're QUITE good.

I found Ashlay to have a rather... jolly personality, like Santa Claus. At times, he can be tough, and a others, he can be laughing like a kid. Interesting personality. But I've never had Cyuss in my party, so I don't know his.

Well, just play through sometime with no goals. Just play through it, and you'll find Cyuss to be just as likeable!

I heard that if your affection rating with Cyuss is high enough at the end of the game, he'll challenge you to a one on one match. Is that really true?

I've seen it. He'll challenge you to a one-on-one duel. He'll use attacks even if you never taught them to him. He's got a LOT of HP, but with Blueberries, it's not so hard. It's Roddick by the way.

I had that happen on my playthrough, it was a little unexpected to say the least. I don't recall the battle been overly challenging, even though he is clearly stronger then when he was in your party.

Ridiculous how that always happens isn't it? Just like when you have to fight Albel in Till the End of Time, he is no-where near that strong when he joins. Dias too in Second Story.

Though I heard losing affects absolutely nothing except the cutscenes. Maybe he just wants to see if he can take down Roddick by that time?

Or when you fight Shadow Sarah in The Last Hope, and she way stronger than the real one. She can cast symbols with no charge time, and they're much more powerful. It's so not fair!

He seems a lot tougher than he actually is... But a few 9,999 attacks will cripple him in no time.

Yeah, the info said he had 150000 HP! But, I almost lost to him, mainly because I didn't have the Souleater like I should have!

150,000 HP? Cyuss? How come he has even more HP than Gabriella? Geez, and he was nowhere near that much in the game! Fayt's right: enemies can be broken, but the game won't let our characters be!

In Chrono Trigger, Magus has 6666 HP, but when he joins you later, he has 667(haha, avoiding 666) HP. I suppose they wanted ONE final challenge. Actually, he doesn't have more than Gabriella. She has 200000+ HP!

No, Gabry only has a little over 100,000. That's why she died so quickly to Redwyrm Thudnersurge. I'm sure Cyuss wouldn't be that tough, either. But I never get him, so I wouldn't ever know.

Well, just get him someday, his Dragon Slash is the best because it comes up from the ground!

But I don't even use Dragon Slash. Does it hit may times? Characters who have moves that hit many times are better than those with one hit that is 9,999.
