Easy wins have never been my style
|
I got this game recently...and I love it! I think it is definitely one of the best PSP games out there, I'd rate it right up there with Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth in fact. For once, a Final Fantasy title has an excellent action/RPG style battle system. It's live, it's fast and still uses the various materia and FF elements we all know and love from the FF titles, FFVII in particular. The way the game intertwines elements of the original FFVII is so awesome, playing it really reminded me of some of the better parts of the original FFVII - and the way Crisis Core uses them - even to Yuffie trying to attack you as a child makes it such a joy to play. Just...god damn there are way to many bloody missions, they are a pain in the ass after a while. That aside though, I freaking love it, it's a great addition to my PSP collection! |

Hehe, I loved the Yuffie bit too. Personally I just ignored 90% of the extra missions and got on with the main game. I enjoyed this game until the end part, it felt too drawn out to me...I know they had to put a new spin on something old but I'm sure they could have made it less meh. |

It was far too short! I finished the game withing three days of getting it! After it, I was like, "Huh? That's it!?" And then I realized that the missions were crucial in making the most of the game. I've only completed 46% of them, but at least I've already defeated Minerva. The other 54% should be a cakewalk, but it'll take too long... Everything dies in one hit, anyway. (Ralz, don't correct; this is a hyperbole.)

If there is anything to really criticize about the game that is indeed it, while it lasts it's a real joy to play, but before long it's all over. If you bypassed missions you could probably roll it over in a mere 12 hours. Only missions can give the game longer life, and they get very boring after a while. I don't know about them been a cakewalk and beating everyone in one hit though. I found the missions quite challenging beyond the 50% mark, unless you used some broken materia combination. But there is no fun if there is no challenge. |

Well, there's the famous way to max out your materia stats additions by using 99 Phoenix Downs. From it and other equipments, I have 99,999 HP, 255 in all stats except Luck, Break MP and damage, and 0 cost of MP and AP. Also, Costly Punch is the cheapest move in the game, dealing 99,999 damage (with damage break) of neither physical nor magical attack to any enemy. Still... after all that... Minerva is still extremely hard. She will annihilate you so quick if you don't block or have the Reraise status. Minerva is probably the only thing that keeps the game from not being too easy. You have to fight her with caution. I believe she has 10,000,000 HP(?), so it'll take 101 hits of Costly Punch to take her down. Actually, it'll take more, because Minerva has the ability to heal herself. I was so relieved when I finally defeated her!

Oh yeah, stat maxing... Darkness HP+999%... good times. Although, the game is really easy to me. I had a lot of fun with it, not getting into the sad story, it really is a fun game. I like how the battle system is like Kingdom Hearts, and Zack actually became one of my favorite Final Fantasy characters. |

Well, it's not entirely like Kingdom Hearts, because you can't see the enemies until you approach their areas. I find that somewhat annoying, since when I'm trying to avoid enemies (because I'm either low on HP or too lazy to fight), I have to hug the walls. I'd prefer it if the enemies were all there from the start. But that didn't bother me so much. |

I liked the DMV thing, too. It was all random, but useful in its variety of ways. I was always saved by the Aerith ones whenever my HP got low, so that was extremely lucky. But later on, it becomes almost obsolete (except for the Invincible status from Aerith's slot) if you have the right power ups. |

I found it unusually annoying at some points. It's almost useless in the Minverva battle, because you're always using Costly Punch. |

I haven't got that far into the game yet I'm at the part where you just fought Genesis and he turns grey... It's confusing that isn't it even his clothes go a grey colour. |

Yeah, the DMV didn't help that much in the Minerva battle. It just wastes time. Well, except for the Aerith one, because it makes you invincible, thus letting you constantly attack Minerva with Costly Punch. |

Yeah, and that Invincibility is helpful when Minerva preforms her Judgement Arrow attack, which removes AUTO-LIFE! Thankfully, with the Genji Shield, Genji Armor, and Genji Helm, things were no problem! |

I wasn't overly fond on DMV at all either, for something different I guess it's alright. But you can fight for hours and get no level ups, while sometimes you can get 3-4 in just 10 minutes. Luck based systems annoy me to no end. |

No, there is a hidden EXP gauge, I think. That's why if you look up enemies for Crisis Core, they'll have an EXP value. I heard that once your EXP is sufficient, you'll likely level up the next time. |

Well, it's a hidden Exp system. You gain two types of levels. An official level, and a "possible level." The official level is... duh, your current level. A possible level is the level you COULD be at right now. So, if you're six possible levels ahead of your official level, your chance of a level up increases. It's not like you'll be in the game, crying over being stuck at Level 6 forever. |

I bought this around 4 weeks ago. Zack is awesome instead of that quiet kinda annoying Cloud feel he was the opposite. The thing that confused me was the levelling up... oh well

I preferred Zack to Cloud as well, having said that, the events of Crisis Core gave me a greater appreciation of what Cloud had become in FFVII. Clearly Cloud witnessed a hellova lot before FFVII even started, you have to respect that at the very least. |

Well, it certainly explains the Buster Sword, but maybe a little too well. First its in Angeal's hands, then in Zack's hand, and then in Cloud's hand. But it's actually origin was from... Angeal's father? Who knows. And that brings up an interesting point about new characters appearing in prequels. It always goes like this before the game just after it... A. They die. B. They disappear. C. They become the villain... then die. Edited by Ralz, Jul 19 2009, 08:39 AM.

Maybe they'll make a prequel to the prequel of FFVII, showing just exactly when Angeal gets the sword. |

Yeah, and they'll make a prequel to that, seeing how Shin-Ra became developed from a block of sand. And then after that, ANOTHER prequel to the prequel of the first game's prequel! |
