Unoriginal, I know. But it must be asked!! I'm going with Roger, whose name is of course shared by the lucky leader in hangman >_>. I think he's the most unique and whacky out of all the characters...okay, maybe not Welch but he's still pretty wacky! And he's not bad in battle when you get him either. Maria is coming a close second. She has a gun

Have a guess who I voted for.

Anyway, it's increadibly obvious but I love both the personality and battle abilities of the guy.

Movement wise he is one of the quickest, has perhaps the most effective broken move in the game, Side Kick which is very spammable. But also other very cool moves like Dimension Door.

Personality is great too, I love when he says "It's just like he said, easy wins have ever been my style" back to Albel. The timing and effect was just priceless. XD

Let's see... Albel, I think is my favorite, with Nel in second.

I've always liked characters with Albel's personality, because it balances things out when other characters are idiots. And Nel is just cool.
My signature's better than yours.

For the record, Maria is definitely my next favourite of them all, I'd put her on par with Fayt in terms of who I most use actually. What she lacks in foot speed she certainly makes up for with her long range skills. Early on Aiming Device, Scatter Beam and Magnetic Field chains are unstoppable. Come post-game to get Energy Burst just makes life so very easy, she is such an effective character to use.

Mine was a tie up between Cliff and Adray. I picked Cliff. I love that guys sense of humour. And I adore his hunches!

Adray is awesome, though. He's got such pep. I really enjoyed leveling him, and frequently used him as my lead character in battle.

Adray...I'm shocked! Other then Aerial I found him pretty bad to use. Symbologists aren't that useful in the game, and I find that Sophia is the better in this department so I never really used him. The fact he doesn't have an ultimate armor in the game doesn't help either and prevents him from having excellent defense.

His personally is fascinating though, I'll give him that, but he feels a bit...disconnected from the group. I get the feeling he really was a last minute addition to the game.

Well yeah, I don't know why I like those add-on characters. That's how people feel about Noel from Star Ocean 2...and I am in love with Noel! Adray just has this nice personality, and if raised and leveled well, he replaces Sophia anyday. I don't really care for Sophia much.

Fayt I cannot remember how many of these threads we've posted our favorites in together. But my favorites are always yours reversed.

My fav: Maria - Very pretty character. Lovely personality. Best ending with Fayt. Plus Angel Feather, Protection and Power Up make life easy with great equips on Fayt.
Second Fav: Fayt - Why he's only the best tanker in the world of eternal sphere. Who else would be able to get Zero's while fighting Freya

Indeed, great to see that hasn't changed old friend! :D

A team with Fayt + Maria in it is unstoppable. It doesn't really matter who the third character is with them really.

But I've always leaned towards Fayt, his tanking abilities are just insane! Plus his broken Side Kick in chains are always fun.

I don't have much experience with roger, adray, mirage, peppita, or post game nel so I can't comment on them. However, I can comment on the rest.

Fayt: for the grand majority of the game he rules. But in the final battles he looses a lot of utility. Ethereal blast is great, but only when your entire strategy focus's on that move. Its easily interrupted unless your on FAM and even then you loose a lot of the hits. I say he's so so. More of the 3rd party, support character.
Sophia: Her purpose is clear and she does it the best. thunder flare, lightning strike, explosion, and stone rain are her best spells and if she starts chaining them the enemy is almost always stunned.
Cliff: One of the best characters. Throughout the main story he dominates with skills like hammer of might and aerial assault, and then in the post game his max shockwave solidifies his place as one of the best.
Maria: Probably the best character of all. Energy burst slaughters post game bosses. Shes one of the best healers of all and her side step more then makes up for her slow running speed. Also, she is such an Mp tank that she can withstand most attacks without dying- even on 4D. Plus she's hot :p

Welcome capostatus64!

I know I'm biased, but I think your trying the wrong move with Fayt. Etereal Blast doesn't do him justice, Side Kick, Dimension Door and Air Raid are his best moves imo. Try those ones and you'll probably find him more effective.

From a different perspective, I'd say Nel is the most underrated character in the game. For a third in the group she is always great value, Ice Daggers is by far the best freezing attack in the game and can equate to easy kills if you can pull it off. Sneaky Whirlwind tactics can be extremely deadly as well (particularly when linked with HP/MP+ Damage or Stun, heh heh heh), Flying Guillotine is great as well.

Yes, Nel is great but she often gets overshadowed by Albel. Nel has probably much more story and personality than Albel (whose 'personality' consists of him calling everyone "maggots"). She is also versatile being adept at both melee and magic. Plus all those great moves Fayt mentioned. And IMO, "Crimson Blade" is much more cool-sounding than "Albel the Wicked" :P

sup yo! :)

I wasn't saying that ethereal blast was one of his best skills. I was saying that it can be useful, but only if the entire strategy focused on it- basically, that in most cases it is more trouble then it's worth.

The other moves you mentioned are much better but they still don't really serve a big purpose, as far as damage dealing goes. They're interrupts. That's why I say he's more of an "AI controlled, third person support character".

Though, I still like to control him since he's so fast, and when you're on galaxy or universe, he can be made into superman :p

EDIT: I'm familiar with the skills you mentioned for Nel, but could you describe to me how splitting sky and divine wrath work, please. It sucks that I've never given her the proper experimentation. I feel I've given Nel the shaft along with adray :p

Yeah, fair point on Fayt. I just like using him myself because of as you said, high speed but also ability to have a high defence. I love using the interupt style character because I can use it more effectively then the AI. That way it gives my AI team mates more freedom to pump in the damage. Holding down Dimension Door is one of my common tactics, it cripples them nicely. That's similar to why I really like using Maria as well by holding Energy Burst.

As for Nel, Splitting Sky is similar (but not as good) as Maria's Energy Burst, but it's a little slower and doesn't cover as much range either. Divine Wrath is one of those insane multiple hit attacks, I don't like those types of attacks though and just find them annoying.

I found Nel to be most useful when trying to train early via the arena, the Get 'em Twin Beast which offers heaps of experience early is tough as hell. But can be frozen so I just go insane with Ice Daggers and it's so much easier. I used Nel a lot for early no Damage Battle Trophies as well. I just stand back and use basic Fire Bolt's to help damage a bit, and heal the others as needed. Come post game though Nel tends to fall behind the pack.

I can understand shafting Adray though, I don't like him at all. :P

Yeah, I guess you're right. The AI is only so reliable, after all. I like to use dimensions door too, but sometimes I find air raid more fun.
The other reason I like to use fayt is because he's the main character. I don't know.... Somehow I feel weird if I don't use him, at least a little.

And I guess Nel is pretty much what I thought she would be. I'm interested in divine wrath but could you tell me if it's more effective then mirror slice? I actually found some pretty decent applications for mirror slice and if its like an upgraded version then it may be worth the usage.
However, I am going to try splitting sky. I guess there's not much point since if it's basically energy burst -1 then i might as well be using energy burst. But I'm curious.

poor adray :)

It's been a while since I played it, but from what I remember and my notes it's very similar, just has a different finishing attack really - with a more aerial style strike. Also it costs only 7 CP, whereas Mirror Slice costs 8 CP, which of course makes it a little easier to fit other combination's around it.

Tough call, but I gotta throw my vote to Albel, if anything for his sheer versatility in battle. The combination of long-range skills like Air Slash, impressive stunlocking skills like Aura Wall, and well-to-do supportive skills like Vampiric Flash, pretty much wormed him into the spot of being my main asset in battle. Plus, if you devote the time to beefing up his attack and strengthening his weapons, tag berserk on and use his short-range weak attack and you'll be ripping enemies apart with impugnity. Unfortunately, his AI is ridiculously inefficient, so I find myself needing to control him directly.

From a personality perspective, I kinda found that the other members of the group were either a: All too serious, or b: so goofy it was irritating (Cliff was about the only one who stayed funny yet enjoyable). It was rather nice to have one guy who was kind of like "whatever, as long as I get a good fight out of it," about the whole situation. I suppose it doesn't help that I've got a thing for playing the bad guy (and Crispin Freeman does such a freaking good job playing villanious characters). Though I gotta say, if Albel weren't here, Fayt and Cliff tie for my vote.

Maria's my favorite. She can rack up damage like no other with her chained aiming devices. She's got a good mix of short and long range attacks, as well as support symbology. Her personallity is cool, calm, and collected. I aklso like her backstory.
