![]() Figured I'd get a quick review up on 'ere since there seems to be an odd lack of reviews up for this knightly prequel. When can I buy it? It's out now in all regions except for in the US. No idea if you fellas are even gonna get it, sorry! What can I stick it in? Your PSP. Who makes these things? SCE Japan Studio, not Level-5. Origins is a prequel to White Knight Chronicles that takes place during the Dogma wars, 1000 years in the past. This game starts off amazingly well, after plaything through the beginning we started to have high hopes for the rest of this title right off the bat. Just the same as with its PS3 brothers you are required to create an avatar straight away, only this time there is no Leonard and your avatar takes the spot of the main character. After enjoying some story we find ourselves being quizzed over what we'd like to do. Right away we're given the chance to pick our own reply to the strangers questioning, we appreciate that. We like options. What we didn't yet realize was just how much our choices impact upon what was to follow. Your replies appear to determine your characters starting stats. So if you say, choose to be a smart-Alec and attack from a distance, you may just end up as having a more caster-like character build. There are several choice replies in a row and no clues as to which will lead down what path, so choose carefully. Anyways, we thought this was a well-nifty idea. A lot more fun than simply picking your class, ay-what? Combat is....we feel an important over the big dogs on the PS3, gone is that pain-in-the-bum action bar, now you're free to spam the X button like mad to get your moves off. Of course the downside to this that you'll do just that, spam the X button like there was no tomorrow. The AI appears (bizarrely) to also be a step-up. The AI no longer acts sluggishly but instead your companions will be quick to charge off in to battle and even go on ahead of you at times. There isn't a whole lot of story to this game, actually there's almost zilch. You find your little touché hanging about on a mercenaries train doing quests. Quests are received from both your fellow mercenaries and regular folk. You'll find yourself doing a lot of quests and not a lot other than quests. So if you like quests, this game is the puppy for you. Out biggest complaint about this game would have to be the loading times, you can install the game, but it's pretty big and doesn't speed it up enough for this to no longer be an issue. The load screens are seriously slow and you'll see plenty of them. Quests have you venture into areas that are broken into sections, each section is pretty small and that adds up to a lot of loading times. These loading times are tragically game-breaking, even if you're one of the most patient people on Earth you're likely to take issue with them. This is a game best played whilst doing something else, it may just be the only way to tolerate them. This game starts off really well, but is sadly let down by horrendous load times and complete lack of story after the beginning. Unless you're a quest-o-holic and extremely patient, then we suggest you give this one a miss. A real shame! Well, there you have it, my short review. 6/10 |
