Is it just me, or is there a serious lack of good strategy games out there? Don't get me wrong, I love a good strategy game, as a child I must have spent hours in front of the first Settlers game, I'd always crush the enemy then continue to fill in the entire map with my kingdom just becuase the game was so much fun. The settlers games since then have been a let down, sadly.

I had an urge to play one so I went onto the PSN and there was hardy any, certainly none that looked appealing at a glance. I'm not sure if they could be as good without a mouse though. Then again I'm sure mice work on the PS3, yet to try it. Do you think they work as well on consoles? What is your favourite strategy game? Can any ever be as good as the first Settlers? :bawl:
I have a vague memory that Warcraft 2 was very good on the PSX, but it was really hard. It would be swell if they put Warcraft 4 on the good ol' PS3, Blizzard are actually a good company in terms of making high quality games.

If they put the first Settlers game on the PSN I can die happy.
I thought about giving Fat Princess a go, I seriously considered buying it many times in the past, but I still feel a little big unsure of it.

What's with the lack of strategy games, anyway? Don't people have the patience for them, or what?

Strategy games like Fire Emblem, Tactics Ogre, and Final Fantasy Tactics, or like Age of Empires and Civilization?

I like both, but not so much the latter, because it's just build it up and tear it down. Not much of a story going for it. Also, the remake of Tactics Ogre came out recently, going to look into that?

I also love Valkyria Chronicles, but I was kinda forgetting about SRPG. ^^; There are even less SRPG, huh? I was thinking more along the Civilization lines, but both can be enjoyable, I agree.

I'm not sure I want TO anymore, I've hardly touched my PSP in ages, I'm not big on handhelds so I dunno if there would be much point. I actually got Tactics for the PSP and it quickly annoyed me, there was that one battle near the start where you had to rescue some guy and the moron kept running into the enemy on his own. v_v
Did you ever get TO?

I -cough- got TO, and I played for a while, it was enjoyable.

But I know which exact mission you're talking about in FFT, it's horrid! The NPCs are so stupid!

I'm tempted by TO, the special edition is only £18 and now the weather is warming up again slowly. I like handhelds a lot better in the warm weather. :3
Will have to look into it some more later.

They so are, it felt like luck beating that mission and then the next one was pretty tedious too so I quit. :/ Shame becuase I really wanted to enjoy that game, I loved FFXII and Vagrant Story.

The gameplay is great, but the NPCs are stupid, I never played the story because my brother wouldn't let me, but it was fun :3

Maybe the lack of these games around is because it's difficult to get the mechanics right within them? Successful strategy games, like War Craft & Fire Emblem are excellent because they are so well balanced with a variety of classes at the same time.

I played War Craft III & Star Craft so many times I've lost count - such fantastic strategy games. And I'm a massive, massive fan on the Fire Emblem titles!

I've tried some other tactical games though, like FF Tactics and they just aren't in the same category.

That could be it. I don't think the genre is that popular though so that probably contributes to the small selection. :/

Yeah, they gameplay in Tactics just doesn't come anywhere near titles like Warcraft's. I've never tried FE, I guess I should at some point, the only SRPG I really liked so far was Valkyria Chronicles and it would be nice to add more tot hat list.

A Fire Emblem title is certainly worth looking into, if you have a Wii the two titles on that are excellent (if you play the Wii titles - play Path of Radiance first though, as they are linked). The recent DS remake is also quite good if that's all you can access.

The GBA ones are best in my opinion, and then the one in line is the GCN one, which is Path of Radiance. The DS one was shabby in my opinion .3.

Any SRPG by NIS is amazing. In my opinion, Disgaea beats Fire Emblem tenfold, and Fire Emblem is pretty damn good.

I'd have to disagree with you there, though Disgaea has more playability, seeing how your characters can go to level over 9000, but the story and characters just don't have the same feel as the Fire Emblem ones do.
