Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4![]() So, yeah, this is my first review. Let's hope it goes good! Might rip some shtuff off fellow reviewers from the forum :3 WHO: Atlus WHAT: JRPG WHEN: JP; July 10 2008 NA; December 9 2008 EU; March 13 2009 WHERE: PS2 WHY: For YOU HOW: JP; Atlus NA; Square Enix EU; Ubisoft I'll be ranking this on Gameplay, Story, Graphics, Soundtrack, and then overall. STORY The game takes place in near-futuristic Japan. It starts in April 2011, as you're moving to your uncle's for the year (Because your parents didn't love you enough) as a transfer student. You leave by train to your new destination, the setting of the game, Inaba. There you meet your uncle, Ryotaru Dojima and your cousin Nanako. On the way back home they bring you to a gas station, where you meet an unimportant gas station attendant. You later head off to your home and go straight to sleep. The following morning you go to school, where you meet your new best friends of the year: Yosuke, Chie, and Yukiko. After talking for a bit, school happens. After school you walk home with Chie and Yukiko and walk by some police tape, you step forward for Dojima to stop you and tell you that there was a murder. You part ways with your new friends and go home, and straight to sleep. Inside your dreams you meet Igor and Margaret. They explain that a mystery is afoot, and you must solve it. That is the beginning of the story, and all I will say before going on and giving (more) possible spoilers. The story embraces adolescent problems, and teaches you to overcome them. The story is very captivating and keeps you in until the end. The characters are very well developed, and the story follows a good story arc, except for the hidden spike if you go for the True Ending, which is good enough to make up for it. But because I loved the story so much, I say a 9/10 is worthy. STORY: 9 / 10 GAMEPLAY In the Persona series, there are two gameplays. And the game takes place during 7 months. 1) Social Links 2) Dungeon Crawling The Social Link system is very intriguing in the sense that your Social Links can provide bonuses to your Persona, which is the being inside you that you use to fight. The Social Links provide good story, and are interesting, but are tedious when you plan your days around a single person. And don't forget about raising skills to make sure you can choose good choices in conversations! The Dungeon crawling. I rather hated this aspect of the game, but it was still fun... The battles in the dungeons were good. And the variety all the characters gave you for battle types was great. I'd give gameplay a 7/10 mostly for the Social Links part GAMEPLAY: 7 / 10 Soundtrack Okay, it's so amazing I feel like giving it an instant 10/10. It perfectly set the mood in every situation. It gives you the chills when it needs to, it brings a smile to your face. And it haunts your mind. Everyday's Great At Your Junes Most/all the themes are in English, so you can't hate on that. the game's soundtrack is near perfect, if not perfect. I give it a 10/10 if not for just the Junes jingle. SOUNDTRACK: 10 / 10 GRAPHICS For a PS2 game, the graphics were great, there were no lags, there was no lipsyncing to be bothered with, since the character profiles are done in an anime way, only showing the emotions and blinking of the characters. The characters were also displayed rather well visually. I find little to no flaw in the graphics, so an 8/10 sounds fair. GRAPHICS: 8 / 10 OVERALL Overall, I really loved this game. I beat it with just under 100 hours, so it's a lengthy game. Using the average of all the scores it would amount to an 8.5/10, which I believe is more or less fair, but I feel it deserves to be bumped up to a 9. OVERALL: 9 / 10 |
