![]() Who is it by? Atlus (Japan) What is it? Action/puzzle game(?) for the 360 and PS3. Genre: Horror Tell me more? You play Vincent, a very uncool-looking guy (seems to make a change) with some serious troubles, I guess. There have been a number of mysterious deaths recently and rumours have been going around saying that people have been having nightmares and if you die in one of these nightmares, then you die in the real world. Vincent, who seems to spend most of his time with his friends in the bar gets approached by a "sexy" (*cough*slutty*cough*) young woman called Catherine and it's around this time that he starts to have horrible nightmares. He also already happens to have a girlfriend whom is also called Catherine. Who he's been with for a long time. Yeah. Maybe he deserves those nightmares, bastard. ![]() Gameplay trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CA_Y-KL-QgI One of the fun little things about the game is that at the end of puzzles you get asked questions like do you wanna be somebody, or would you just prefer to fit in? And then it shows you (if you play online) what other people have answered. I was surprised that most people said that they'd rather just blend in. |

Despite Atlus (trolling the crap out of us) saying just a few days ago that there were no plans to release Catherine outside of Japan at this time.. ATLUS HAVE SAID TODAY THAT CATHERINE IS COMING TO THE US IN SUMMER THIS YEAR (July 26?). Hit by the hype hammer *boom* baby. ![]() Dat ass is so getting imported by me. pre-ordered! Hellz yeah. <3 Hours of block-scrambling fun and pissing your pants (should you be that sort of person) soon to come!

I'm not gonna enjoy explaining this game to my dad's side of the family. Since that's the only place with a 7-gen console I can get to regularly. But it's in the living room where everyone can see it. -_- But, the voices are indeed sounding good. :3 |

Wow! That was one of the best demos we have ever played! The graphics are even better than we had realized, heck, the MENU screen had us putting our face right up to the television to better-inspect them. Unlike with most horrors, if does not restrict itself to dark and dull colours, but it isn't overly bright either. It seems as though the perfect balance has been achieved, and we certainly appreciate a horror that isn't an attack of the browns and greys. You can see straight away that a lot of love and care has gone into the creation of this thing. The soundtrack is amazing, but we already knew that. Plenty of classical stuff given new versions by the games composer. The original pieces really stand out too. The voice English voice acting has been extremely well handled, but it would have been nice to hear more of in the demo (which appears to be much shorter than the Japanese version release a while back). We really felt the urgency of it all. You might think it sounds like things will be boring because this is a block puzzle game when it gets to the action, but that just isn't the case. Your ass is being chased down for being the son-of-a-bitch that you are, and you really fear for your life. If you don't solve the puzzles in time then you're dead-meant, and you sure don't get a whole lotta time. Kinda sucked you're only able to play the demo in 'easy' mode, but I guess they were worried people would be scared off by the harder modes since this game is supposed to be supah-dupah hard. It simply wasn't the case in the demo. The demo is just not hard. Makes us worry that the full game will be a nasty shock since we fully intend to play it on 'normal' right off the bat. Our cripes from the demo were extremely minor ones.; 1) There's this logo in the top left which tells you what mode you're playing in. Both unnecessary and distracts away from the games top-quality visuals. 2) Vincent (meaning you) gets texts on his mobile phone which you can reply to, the reply system seems like it could have been implemented better than it was. To cycle through the pre-made replies you have to keep pressing confirm and cancel. Kinda tedious. 3) The pacing felt a bit 'off' since even the slower scenes felt a little hurried somehow. Maybe we couldn't settle because our fear of some impending doom right around the corner. 4) Didn't seem very creepy so far, certainly not as creepy as, say, the Persona games. If you want to do well you simply cannot hesitate, not even for a moment, we hesitated for literally a few seconds on the first stage when we were getting used to things and we were lumped with a silver trophy. It may sound like we're being silly, but our lingering was extremely minor! But this could be considered a good thing. We see plenty of replay value for the sorts of folk like myself who like to be show-off pants and achieve top scores all-over the shop. We did suffer one death, it was sort of expected since everybody speaks of how difficult the game is. But we liked the reason we died. The reason? We were actually pretty scared! Suddenly our peruser closed in on us whilst screaming, and it was one freakish peruser, so we had just a pure panic, a panic that cost us our lives at the end of a bloody and gigantic fork. Over all we were deeply impressed. Well worth the one gig of disc space the demo takes up on the PS3 (no idea how much space the 360 version takes up). Replay value is high, we already find ourselves wanting to go back and give it another whirl. And you know something has to be darned good if you find yourself wanting to replay the demo of it. Also, you seriously have little to fear about the difficulty if it worried you. Easy mode is indeed easy. Now if only it had been as long as the Japanese demo....Atlus have truly created something wonderful. From what we've seen so far, we expect this to be a solid 8/10 game easy. Oh, and one other thing, just for Nemo ~ wouldn't worry about parents in the room. Yes, the demo does show 'disturbing' things, but the 'emabressing' sex stuff is mostly removed. Man, this game did not disappoint thus far. In two words? HELLZ YEAH!

Uh, party game? Not so much....it is supposed to have one, but demo doesn't give you a chance to try it out. Tried the demo again this morning. Think the pacing seemed off because scenes were cut for the demo? Maybe I'm remembering wrong, but I'm sure the Japanese demo was different. They put what looks like a trailer on the end, and the trailer seems to have better sound quality than the rest of the demo which seemed odd. Edited by Gumdrop, Jul 13 2011, 07:23 PM.

Jah. :> Don't forget it's also on the 360, the videos have been squished down some and it's generally less impressive graphically (apparently) but that will probably be easier for you to get at. Oh, apparently the US and Japanese demos are the same (appart from language wise, obviously) so something were a bit funny in my memory. |

Boooo, 24 hours after I get a mail saying no cancellations on my pre-order allowed now, they announced Catherine for Europe. I'd like to support that kind of thing coming here, but oh well. Now it's two days off release and they still didn't ship it, guess I won't get it this week. >.> Pretty disappointing, most English sites would have posted it by now. (end of whine) Paddy, we will have to arrange to play it together soon! <3 I'm suspecting it'll arrive next Monday now. Who else is getting it? :> |

I can think of a few reasons as to why there is a hype for it. 1) There aren't enough adult games. 2) People are sick of easy games. 3) It's clearly something a bit 'different.' 4) Persona fans want something to tide them over to the next Persona game, they got it! 5) It looks as thought it might actually be pretty creepy/lack of good horror games. It's also very stylish, not many games have so much style. ![]() For a more personal view; I'm probably just about the only one that 'digs' the whole block puzzle thing, but I'm finding myself attracted to the gameplay that so many hate, too. It's pretty much everything I've been wanting in a new game for a while. Difficulty, but nothing unfair, more mature topics/themes, something a bit different and not terribly long, but with plenty of end-game challenges/replay value. And also, a little fear is just the icing on the yummy cake. <3 On that note, I wants this game so bad it's untrue. Must. Not. Go. Crazy. In. Last. Week. Before. Arrival. |

I'm hyped because it's one of the only games to get the Anime-ish design right for once. The Naruto games did okay, but this was stunning! And also for some of the reasons that GumGum listed. :3 Edited by Aigis, Jul 25 2011, 10:59 AM.
