Tales of vesperia

Gonna give you guys a quick review.

Story: Your main character is a guy named Yuri Lowell, He's a quite mysterious to begin with. He can't stand to watch people suffer and he sets out on a journey to retrieve a blastia core (magical sphere used to power a blastia) that is stolen from his hometown and thus is making it flood. He ends up meeting alot of new people on the way and typically getting them into his party. Yuri ends up thrusted into a quest to save the entire world... as usual lol.

Combat: Very much like star ocean 3/4 but a smaller battleground and the attacks are'nt so over the top. some of the boss battles take a while and can be somewhat challenging... But overall it's actually not bad. I'd give it a 7 or 8 out of 10.

Characters: I don't really hate any of them, The voice acting is actually not too bad either. You learn to love alot most of them :) not to mention Judith is hot as hell.... <3

Gameplay: The world map is a good size and so are most of the dungeons, Does need a fast trave system but you do get a form of airship though. You tend to know where to go all the time aswell and if you do get lost you have a journel with what to do next in it, as well as a monster log and item log.

My opinion: Effing awesome, I would advise it if you have a load of time to kill, I enjoyed it through and through.

Extra stuff: You can play through again with bonus stuff. and it comes fully equeiped with a bonus dungeon for people wanting a challange.Quite the satisfying challange :@

My overall rating is 8.5/10

OHHHH!!! and the ps3 re-release has bonus features like new moves and characters xD "^%^£ ps3 :S"

Any other info you guys want to add feel free.... It's all I have time for atm lol. oh yeh, and images are being a fag on my computer atm so I cant upload any >.>
someone else do it please?

thanks :D

Relatively brief for an average review, but still has some info about the game in there.

I go agree that it's absolutely an awesome game to play. Yuri's character is fascinating from head to toe. He, like his friend Flynn both want to stand up for justice, but go about achieving it in dramatically different ways. Flynn tries to do it officially by climbing the ranks of the knights, while Yuri...will use any means necessary to say the least without giving the story away.

I was blown away by some of Yuri's actions during the game, I rarely have my jaw hit the ground playing an RPG, but this is one of them that did it for me!

The battle system is enjoyable enough, later in the game I found the battles started to become a bit tiresome as they are hard to evade though.

Overall I loved it, if I had more free time, I'd play it all over again!

hahah, I was bored >.>
Well Yuri's way of going about his pursuit of justice is a great change. normally the main character in these games is a sqaure or goody goody, but not Yuri xD.
I only just found out you can face the final boss in a bonus 3rd form, and he kicked the living &*^$ out of me :(

One of my favourite games of all time.

That's exactly right, and that's what makes him to bloody awesome. <3

I take my hat off to the Namco Tales Studio guys that wrote the story for the game, nice to see the RPG makers show some balls for once and take things a little further!

Nope, I haven't got that far into it yet. I'm up to the final dungeon of the story actually, just haven't got the time or patience to get through it. The constant battles are bugging me.

I've seen footage of this game from my friend who is absolutely in love with the Tales series, but I give this game the same rating I do with every Tales game except for Phantasia, which is 50-50, it's fun at first, but it just gets seriously boring around the middle and I just put it down and never look back. Phantasia is a lot of fun for me, but the battle systems have changed a bit in the Tales series.

One thing that I found boring in this game was the battle transition, whenever an enemy hits you on the World Map and the screen cracks EVER SO SLIGHTLY. It's just not as epic as other Tales game such as Abyss or Symphonia, even.

I think I would've liked Yuri had he not been voiced by Troy Baker, the unemotional actor who ruined Deidera in Neruto Shippuuden for a lot of people, nicluding myself. Never liked this guy's roles, but even as a wise-cracking Yuri Lowell, he still has no emotional range.

Woah woah woah. That's a bit harsh. Voice actors don't really make the game. Unless the game has been made before and the voices and the things they said were perfectly fine before. For Example Star Ocean the Second Story and Star Ocean Second Evolution. I know Tales games tend to drag on, but people who love tales games love that aspect, because they never want the game to end. The only problem I ever had with a tales game was Tales of Legendia which didn't have a sense of anything to do but the main quest. I just started playing Tales of Destiny 2 (eternia) and love it already as well as Tales of Destiny. I played and own pretty much every english adaptation of a Tales game you can find. Tales games are never really boring halfway through, at least you can stand through the battles unlike a final fantasy game where you do the same boring actions over and over. If anything, you could play an Action RPG forever and love the battles without stopping.

Tales of Vesperia is one of the best in it's class. It has a very well thought out and in depth story. I love all the characters in the story except Repede who was unnecessary. I EVEN LOVE KAROL! He's got things to work on being a little kid, but he's not as annoying as Genis or any other little kid characters you meet in games. Like HOPE from FF13 Annoying as shit.

Spoiler: click to toggle

This game is awesome.

Also ffffff japan for not giving us the PS3 version with Flynn

It makes it difficult to have to listen to those voices, I always turn the sound off when playing most games because they insist on throwing a voice that I really don't care for. Abyss is the greatest example for this, Dissidia as well, when they made Yuri Lowenthal the star voice. I have lost all respect for this VA, and I wanted to kill him after hearing his role as Cecil on Dissidia and IV DS. >_>

This game just wore me out with the seemingly endless battles, you do crap damage throughout the whole game until you get the best setup possible at the highest level. It's just not a series I really care for, but at least I give it a chance and then critique it.

Karol is awesome, all his life he runs away from danger, but he never had anyone believe in him like Yuri did, and when it counted the most, he was there when he was needed. Awesome moment in the game.

I can relate to this part, the battles wore me down in the end as well, I tried to power level a bit, get the best equipment I could and battles were still a grind.

But the most popular RPG series in Japan does that too, Dragon Quest.

It's a bit of a balancing act, do you keep the battles challenging even with good equipment and levelling, of give you the easy way out option should you work hard to bully your enemies (Valkyrie Profile 2 level 40 trick...)? You'd never get everyone to agree on the same one.

As for the voice acting, I never really have an issue with English voice acting in games, well, with the exception of back to PSX games though when the technology wasn't really there to support it.

Well, I'm a voice actor, so naturally I criticize other people in my profession. lol

I've never even touched Dragon Quest cause it looks suspiciously like DBZ, the most retarded show on the planet. I mean, is there anyone that isn't a super saiyan?
