![]() What is it? A fast-paced Japanese Beat 'em up with 2D sprites! When does it come out? Well since this is a review..it's out everywhere except for Europe which gets it at the start of December! Why don't I have it? Good question! Will you buy it for me? No. Why review this one and not the first one? Because I like this one a whole lot more than the first one. DLC? Yes. Currently there are two extra characters you can buy. What did you think of Blazblue: continuum Shift? Before this game I had only owned the following beat 'em ups; Tekken, Mortal Kombat, Soul Calibur and Ehrgeiz, if you picked up one of these you could pick up and play the others without trouble. Because of that I thought all beat 'em ups were probably the same way. How wrong I was! When I first played this game I found after a few hours that there was no way I was going to be able to keep playing it like my other fighters and come out victorious. So long story short I wasn't too impressed at first, I couldn't seem to get anything right on it and it was generally a frustrating experience, but for whatever reason I felt compelled to keep loading it up again and again. I'm certainly not the sort to give up so easily. This is kind of a warning for others like me, I guess. After two or three days had passed I was starting to set off my distortions (specials) and generally learning how to play properly. At first I was pretty bad at the combos, I couldn't seem to time the inputs right, in the previous beat ‘em up’s I had played I had never bothered to learn the characters combos and as far as I could see, I couldn’t get away with not learning them for Blazblue’s cast and doing well at the game. Anyway it was worth taking the time to understand this game. There's a lot more to be learned than there is in the other fighters I've played and a lot more fun to be had! The dashes and air dashes are especially good fun. Blazblue is very fun, good humoured, colourful, game with a good range of unique characters. I know these things all claim to have unique characters but with this one every character does look unique and each is very different to play. The game modes include; Tutorial – Blazblue has a very thorough tutorial mode, including character specific tips. Arcade – The arcade is pretty standard, there’s a little bit of story, but not a great deal since there’s a mode devoted just to story. Versus Score Attack – Score attack mode is great if you want a good challenge, in this mode you must face every character in a row, without continues on an extremely high difficulty level. Training Mode Challenge – in this mode you must learn character specific combos ranging from very easy to very hard. Legion – Pick your character and have them go fourth conquering the map, gaining allies as you go from node to node. Story - Blazblue has a great deal more story than most fighters and so it has a whole mode set aside just for story. Gallery – There is an awful lot of art as you play through the story mode which can all be viewed again in the gallery. In the gallery you can also watch videos again and listen to the games music, on top of that you can play back all the character voice clips! You will also unlock other special artworks that cannot be seen else where in the game. Replay theatre Network – create lobbies and play with friends, or play ranked battles online. Story Quite honestly I’m not very interested in fighting games stories apart from for the story of my favourite characters. Blazblue’s story mode was good enough to make me pay more attention though. Each character has an alternate/joke ending so it made it seem worth reading everybody's story. For making me care and giving me some smiles I give the story mode a higher mark than I ever expected to give a fighters story. 7/10 Sound Again, music in beat 'em ups doesn't usually grab my attention, but the music here is of a very high standard and there are one or two tracks that are really stand out to me. Continuum Shift is one of my all-time favourite games soundtracks. Some of the English voice acting is pretty bad, so lucky for us we can put it back into Japanese. 9/10 Gameplay Wow! Whoever knew a fighter could be this much fun? I'd had fun playing fighters in the past, sure, but no where near this much! In my view it isn't all that newbie friendly because it's a lot to learn for a fighter, but it does offer a thorough tutorial mode and even a beginner mode, but all that does is make the combos go off in one button press, so you aren’t actually learning anything. Thanks to Blazblue I now take the time to learn my chosen mains combos properly in fighting games. 8/10 Graphics; Who knew a 2D fighter could be so pretty? Blazblue: continuum shift boasts gorgeous backgrounds and attractive, colourful sprites. It also has some lovely and colourful art for you to unlock. 8/10 Over all I give this game 8/10! In the past I’ve not been an especially big fan of fighting games, but thanks to Blazblue I have learned to take them far more seriously and enjoy them a lot more. This game may not appeal to a lot of gamers because of its strong anime style visuals. |

I've yet to play CS, I'm lacking a 7th gen system, but I've played the PSP version of Calamity Trigger and I spent many an hour completing it, around 75 hours. Only reason it was so short is because they allow you to skip dialogue you've previously seen in Story, I thanked them for that. The gameplay is fantastic, at first, it's somewhat difficult to learn, but every game is that way when you think about it. My first character ended up being my best and favorite to play, Ragna the Bloodedge. At first, he appears somewhat slow, and low HP makes him pretty easy to kill, but after learning how to effectively use his Distortions and Drives correctly, I started making my own combos and making him bloody fast and all over the screen in a second. My favorite character, story-wise, has to be Nu-13. Simply because, she's the first 'robot with feelings' that I actually felt for. Also because she's cute, I have a thing for female characters, especially if they're cute, or feminine in any way in terms of personality. Using her in combat is completely awkward for me, she has attacks in all ranges and they're just strange and inconvenient sometimes. Voice acting is horrendous. My biggest problems were with Ragna and Jin. Patrick Seitz (Ragna) just sounded overplayed and extremely annoying at long intervals. When I see Ragna, I don't imagine him sounding that bass, he sounds like he's in his 40s. As for Jin, Vincent just didn't have much to work with after they patched Jin's personality from 'psychotic, incestual homosexual' to just 'psychotic'. Not a very impressive voice, but he had very little to work with, so I have to blame Arc for that one. Replay value is like any other fighting game, by the time you're finished, you don't really have the urge to start over. But all in all, I love this game, an absolute hoot if my friends are hanging out and we're bored of Halo. Edited by Aigis, Oct 21 2010, 08:55 AM.

Hee, the thing I like about her is what you don't like about Nu. x3 You can put it in Japanese you know? Hehe. The Japanese voices are ultra-standard for the most part though. Anyway, if you ever get it you should say since two others here play it also (not including myself).

I have it in perma-Japanese, I love Ragna and Jin in Jap. :3 Sure thing, although it's probably going to be eons before I ever get a PS3, I can't wait, though. |

I actually started to care about the serious half to the story, it seems better in the first game to me, but still..this game somehow continues to grow more and more on me steadily. Actually I've decided this is my favourite game now. I never thought I'd see the day when a fighting game became my most loved. ![]() I was playing through the first games story last night for the first time and was surprised at how emotionally stirring it actually is (even Ragna's whom I don't participially like, or didn't until I watched his story), I wish I had paid attention to the serious side of the story when playing through the second but I remember it being pretty wooden in the bits I did listen to. When it hits Europe I shall have to listen to continuum shift's story properly. I'm half thinking of giving this hawt thang 10/10, but I just don't do that. There's no such thing as a perfect game, right? Ack, who the heck cares!? I'm giving it a 10! I gave it a bunch of minor edits towards the end anyway, hehe. Now I will share an image of Platinum the Trinity with you for it is super-amazing beyond all measure! http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/2614/39514495000010780554520.jpg Spoiler: click to toggle Oh, and lastly I feel the need to show off; I managed to be one of the lucky few who will be getting the Fan Edition of the game on the 3rd of December thanks to some fans, who were angry at the delays I guess, who cancelled theirs! Heeeeeeee. <3 |
