Of the countless series under the Square Enix banner, which of them would you consider the best, or top three of them?

Vote and discuss your thoughts.

It was so hard to decide between Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts, both of the series were absolutely fabulous.
Since FF had more titles which gave me more enjoyment, I ended up voting for "FF".
But really, my top two would be FF and KH series, truly a toss of coin if I had to pick out one.

Since this is a Star Ocean forum, I think it would be fitting for Star Ocean to receive at least ONE vote :P Star Ocean pwnz!!

i was also tossing up between Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts, but FF has been around for a lot long, and has still retained its massive popularity over the whole time

FINAL FANTASY FTW!!! :P

I'm giving one to the underdog.

I love Star Ocean, Final Fantasy & even Kingdom Hearts, but I'm going with Valkyrie Profile for the poll.

Valkyrie Profile is the series I'm currently addicted too, to me it's just a pure stand out because it's different to all other RPG's. The action/turn based combat blend is just outstanding and only somewhat comparable to the new style of FF fighting. Both games have the ability to view enemies in movement and to freeze them to avoid battle if you wish (death to random battles!), the Valkyrie & Einherjar story is quite unique and dramatic. I love when an RPG dares to be a little different, and for that reason Valkyrie Profile gets my vote!

Final Fantasy FTW. They were great games, and though they have sorta craped out from its original image in the latest ones, its still an amazing series. So I voted FF. :mob: maybe thatll work....

By rules of what makes a game a great game in terms of graphics, storyline, character development, and game play:

Star Ocean >>>>>>>>>>>>>> VP and Dragon Quest/Warrior >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Fail Fantasy and KH

I am the only one that voted Valkyrie Profile! :'(

I would have voted Star Ocean otherwise though, but both Valkyrie Profile titles are really awesome too, very well made games.

Final Fantasy is either a hit or miss, there is too much crap in the series with only a few good ones. I mean, if you make what 30 odd games (main titles/remakes/spinoffs) your bound to have a few good ones, that doesn't really make a good series though.

Kingdom Hearts is fun...but has basically no depth whatsoever, it's the sugar fix of RPGs!

As for Dragon Quest, not enough of them in PAL countries for me to really say, DQVIII was ok...but too long.

I would have gone for SO but I feel a little put off it at the moment truth be told so I went with FF. The FF games are fun and easy and usually with good story lines and likable characters (most of them anyways). I like how no two FF is the same, even the battle systems are different and mostly well thought out. The music is also always top notch with some utterly unforgettable pieces.
I said its easy and it is (except for FF1, the original version was hard :s) but they usually have some big phat optional boss to keep people who like that kind of thing happy and they also have good replay value. what more could you ask for really?

I'm not thinking about spin offs just the main games.

I remain faithful to SO ♥
Though I have played at least one game in all the series listed in the poll except for the DQ series.

I'm the only one to vote Valkyrie Profile so far, hah! I'm still glad I voted for it though, while they have just three games they are all quality games.

It's hard to have a best though, I like all of them really. Final Fantasy has a few gems in it, Dragon Quest is a quality more traditional style series and of course Star Ocean is just awesome :!:

I voted for Final Fantasy, because technically, Star Ocean was developed by tri-Ace, and only published by Square Enix. But nobody even seems to be aware of the existence of tri-Ace nowadays. People ask me what game company I like, and I say Square Enix and tri-Ace. And then, they ask me what tri-Ace is...

But anyway, I think I played Final Fantasy before I played Star Ocean. My first was one of the old ones, and then ultimately, I had played through about fourteen or fifteen of them. FFXII is my favorite, though so many dislike it.

True, but technically Dragon Quest wouldn't count either among others, but it's just about everything under the Square Enix banner.

But sadly tri-Ace isn't that well known compared to others out there, it isn't helped by the fact it's always secondary in credits to all their games as well thanks to Square Enix. And good luck finding tri-Ace somewhere written on the PSP remakes. :scream:

Maybe the new partnership with Sega on Resonance of Fate might help give tri-Ace some further recognition.

Also, Kingdom Hearts. I enjoyed the real time battle system a lot. Why couldn't the FF's have that? Although, since it's rated E, the game tends to get really childish at points.

As much as I enjoy Final Fantasy and Star Ocean, I LOVE the Kingdom Hearts series. I'm just so into adventure games where you can move on the battlefield.

Well then you like Action or Real-time RPG's Ralz better than Turn-based. I'm kind of with you on that one but I went for Final Fantasy because its the thing that got me into RPG's

Yeah, FFX was my first. Kingdom Hearts led me to that game, and from there, I discovered the Final Fantasy series.

I change my vote to Star Ocean because to me The first two Star Oceans > my favorite FF games :p
Now Square have their grubby mits on it though it seems to be taking a turn for the worse sadly. I'm surprised I went for FF over SO.

Star Ocean, this is what got me addicted to RPGs. There is always tons to do in these games and most playthroughs can span over 200 hours (Like me and Star Ocean 3). Private Actions (Plus multiple endings to discover), Pre-Game Bonuses and Bosses, an epic and tactical battle system. Star Ocean (along with possibly the Valkyrie Profile), to me, is a really under appreciated series compared to Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts. For that, Star Ocean gets my vote.

I think I'd have to go with Final Fantasy. Dragon Quest is really close though. And then of course there's Star Ocean.

That WOULD be my top three but I can't leave out the Chrono series :\

Kingdom Hearts is OBVIOUSLY the best! It featured a new and unique battle system (though Final Fantasy seems to be heading more that way now), a deep backstory (not the Disney worlds, but the overarching story), good sidequests, and a childlike nature that appeals to almost everyone.

I can't believe Fayt said it wasn't deep! It was a long time ago, so I'll forgive him. But the true beauty of Kingdom Hearts, in my opinion, is the overarching story of Sora, Riku, the Heartless and Nobodies, and the Keyblade. It's deep, with many intricacies (check out KHInsider sometime if you can't find those intricacies) and it's fairly literal in its presentation of the battle between good and evil, light and shadow. It's not "mature" as some people want it to be (in other words, gory, with lots of cussing and sex etc.) but that also adds to its charm.

I like Final Fantasy as well, of course. Final Fantasy is a series that can continually make a game with "nothing special" apparent, and yet the game still comes off so well that you're dying to play it. I really don't understand myself why I like the series so much, but it's undeniable.

Star Ocean, of course, has it's own wonderful charm. It mixes Fantasy and Sci-fi in a very good way. It's item Creation systems, skill systems, battle system (which has changed little, but is still LOADS of fun) and wonderfully meaty stories has endeared the series to me. Which is, of course, why I'm posting here.

I've tried playing Valkyrie Profile (a PSX emulator version) but wasn't able to get into it all that much. The way it progressed I felt like I had to constantly read a guide to make sure I didn't miss something big or mess up big in some way or another. Still, I probably will get the PSP remake sometime and try it. It is original with some interesting concepts, and I think if there were a little bit more explanation and help in-game I could really enjoy it.

Dragon Quest and I weren't very good friends for a while, but when my brother (who has always liked the series) got me the remake of the fourth installment for my birthday, I began to really enjoy it. It wasn't story-intensive (story usually being of utmost importance to me) but it still made me look forward to each level up and the gameplay aspects of it. So I'm more of a fan of the series than I used to be for sure. I plan to play more of the others now.

Oh, and it seems cruel and unusual not to put the Chrono Series on that poll! The Chrono Series is one of the BEST series in gaming history! They have this irrestible charm and wonderful stories, mixed with gameplay that is JUST unique enough (but not too weird). Chrono Trigger can definitely be a game that developers aspire to, not to create a game like it, but as good an experience wholly as Chrono Trigger was. I'm still waiting for Square Enix to make a new game in the series! They are quite selfish with their copyrights on the franchise, but they refuse to USE them!

The Chrono games, no doubt about it. Chrono Trigger was good and I absolutely love Chrono Cross.
