Adray Lasbard![]() Japanese Version Name: Adray Lasbard Race: Elicoorian Height: 6'1" Weight: 220 lbs Age: 58 Weapon: Sword & Runology Starting Level: 18 Background: Adray is a former member of the elite "Crimson Blade" one of the military arms to Aquaria of Elicoor II. He worked along side Nels father Nevelle Zelpher for a number of missions. He has also performed many great and dangerous tasks for Aquaria in the past. Despite his age of 58 he is still considered one of the most powerful servants of Aquaria. Personality: His knowledge and skills are rarely equalled in Elicoor. He loathes tasks requiring him to remain still such as office work; he is much as ease on the battle field. He is however not the easiest guy to get along with, and often gets sent on dangerous; even seemingly pointless missions just about as far away from Aquaria as possible. Recruitment Info: He can potentially join as early as just prior the Elicoor War, or late in the game; either way he will join you eventually. If he joins before the Elicoor War he will leave after the disk 1 event to re-join once you have returned via the Diplo after the Styx events by heading towards the Passage from Parch to Plenty. Although only in the Director's Cut version of course, he was not in the original Japan only version in any form. Battle Information: Adray can learn some Battle Skills and mainly Symbology; refer to the list below for what unique battle skills he will learn, when and an evaluation of them. Note: Base cost is the skill cost if used as a minor skill; it varies by both the level of the attack and the characters maximum HP for Major Attacks. The Base Cost purpose is for a guide to fury consumption use and whether it consumes HP or MP to perform. Battle Skills Summary: Name: Chaos Tide CP Cost: 5 Learned: Lv 20 Range: Long Base Cost: 50 HP/20 Fury Function: Tackles the enemy with a spurt of power. Hold the attack button down to initiate. Evaluation: This can allow Adray to charge from a great distance to another with a fairly powerful tackle, can be useful to move him around effectively. Rating: 4.5/10 Name: Aerial CP Cost: 2 Learned: Lv 22 Range: Short Base Cost: 20 HP/20 Fury Function: Anti-air attack. Hold the attack button down to initiate. Evaluation: With this Adray slams the ground in front of him quickly which causes a HP/MP damage attack which rises from the ground up, hitting both grounded and airborne enemies. An excellent attack especially since most of Adrays attacks are rather slow, this is one exception. Rating: 9.5/10 Name: Titan Fist CP Cost: 6 Learned: Lv 30 Range: Long Base Cost: 150 HP/20 Fury Function: Summons a giant living in another world. Hold the attack button down to initiate. Evaluation: An Earth elemental attack that can be invoked from afar, but typical of Adray is very close to both cast and recover from. Can be rather damaging however and add status damage as its proficiency increases. Rating: 5.5/10 Name: Southern Cross CP Cost: 6 Learned: Lv 40 Range: Short/Medium MP Cost: 120 Function: Generates a sacred cross to purge evil. Evaluation: Not up to the standard of the Second Story version in terms of coverage, but still covers a sizable diameter around the user. Then being able to cancel chain it (although only at close range) heavily increases its overall ability. It can also develop to add MP damage and potentially paralyze your enemy’s as well, possibly the best offensive tactic for Adray, just disappointing that even when chained it’s still typically a slow Adray tactic, although fast for him. Rating: 8.5/10 Name: Sea Gate CP Cost: 8 Learned: Lv 50 Range: Long Base Cost: 200 HP/25 Fury Function: Summons a giant shark that lives in freezing waters. Hold the attack button down to initiate. Evaluation: Causes a large area water damage affect, looks great but again rather slow to invoke and has a hideous CP cost. Rating: 3.5/10 Name: Emotion Torrent CP Cost: 8 Learned: Item Requirement: Substantial Folio, level 156 of Sphere 211. Range: Short/Medium Base Cost: 250 HP/20 Fury Function: Tackles the enemy with a spurt of power. Hold the attack button down to initiate. Evaluation: Great attack, allows Adray to invoke a rock formation of a varying description (At times elemental, which can backfire) which he then throws at the enemy, deals decent HP & MP damage. Rating: 7/10 Name: Sirocco CP Cost: 7 Learned: Item Requirement: Massive Folio, found in the Urssa Lava Cave. Range: Short/Medium Base Cost: 200 HP/26 Fury Function: Jumps high and pounds the earth with flames. Hold the attack button down to initiate. Evaluation: Great power attack, but painfully slow to use and then recover. Add that to its high CP cost makes it unlikely to cause any real damage. Rating: 2.5/10 Learning Chart This chart covers every skill Adray can learn by level order; bar the ones every character can learn via items.
![]() Battle Overview: Adray is a combined Battle Skill & Symbology user, he holds the second highest INT rating in the game. He is also equal with Sophia in learning more abilities then any other character in the game. You can use him to support with healing, restoring etc. He too can perform quality offensive Symbols such as Explosion and Southern Cross. Finally He is also capable of perform various Battle Skills. On the downside however he is extremely slow to recover from battle skills, while he can perform Battle Skills he does them slower then any other character in the game, probably to counteract the fact he can perform so many symbols, although then his INT doesn’t come close to Sophia either. Almost lost somewhere in between, he is essentially okay at everything but an expert at nothing. He also gets ripped of by the fact that the horrible Ablative Shield is the best armour he can equip. He can be a nice alternative to Sophia if you like his Battle Skill additions; although I doubt he will make many top threes. Suggested Skill Sets Fast Assault Sm: Aerial Lm: Fire Bolt SM: Aerial LM: Chaos Tide S1: Quick Symbol S2: First Aid With this combination you can support Adray’s Symbol invocation time while also providing him some effective attacks to use at a higher then average Adray pace in battle. Aerial chains close up as surprisingly effective; the Fire Bolt addition is just a nice way to build the power of Chaos Tide before changing into your enemy with haste. Torrent of Power Sm: (Empty) Lm: (Empty) SM: (Empty) LM: Emotion Torrent S1: Quick Symbol S2: Increase MP With this skill set you can use one of Adrays most powerful attacks safely, since Adrays recovery time is typically slow having him perform them from afar is the best prevention measure to having him beat up and interrupted, just be mindful that it can at times cause elemental damage. It also allows for the combination of Quick Symbol & Increase MP, to dramatically improve his ability to cast Symbols. Note that the battle skill evaluations are based on my own thoughts and experiences with the game, I'm sure not everyone will agree with my ratings; feel free to post your own assessments of these abilities or any other comments relating to Adray. |

Uhm... I tried using Adray once, and he was horrible. At least, his speed was. His attacks was always getting interrupted, and he died a lot quicker than my other two characters. I was just testing him at that time. Thank God I did, because I found out how much I didn't like him then. I never used him again after that. I have personally put Adray in my Star Ocean Characters Hate List, somewhere alongside Noel and Dorne. |

Adray certainly isn't one of my favourites, although I'm surprised I didn't put something in there about Charge for Adray, I'm sure I did on one my updated versions of that list, maybe that wasn't the most up to date one... Anyway, believe it or not, the very basic Charge skill is one of Adray's best, try using that with combos for him if you haven't before, it's surprisingly effective for the old bugger. |

That's... surprising. I never expected Charge to be his most effective attack. I would assume the old guy just likes to stay in the back and cast symbols. Does Aerial work as well for him, too? |

Actually it is Aerial, and that is actually in my suggested skill setup, I don't know what I was thinking when I posted that last. I guess that's just been a bit rusty with the game, it's been a while since I played Till the End of Time... But yeah, use Aerial, you'll be surprised at how useful it is!
