Roger S. Huxley![]() Japanese Version Name: Roger S. Huxley Race: Menodix Height: 3'1" Weight: 66 lbs Age: 12 Weapon: Axe Starting Level: 6 Background: Roger is a typical young Menodix boy that is always keen to 'prove his strength'. He often takes on dangerous, even at times life threatening tasks with he Menodix friends Lucien, Lezard & Vellion without concern. He thinks only of the glory and being the winner of his so called “True man contest. Personality: He is also very confident, energetic, and quite abrupt with things he says, will often dismiss the aid of others to claim he done a task all by himself. Also despite his young age he is rather keen on the females. He certainly acts, or at least thinks he is much older then he is. Recruitment info: He is also one of the four characters you don’t need to have in your final party, and may be one of three that will perform a rescue action later in the game. Even if he does not he will still be recruitable if you firstly deny Peppita the opportunity to join early on disk 2. Then later see him in the mayors house at Surferio, just ask him to join if you still have a space left. Battle Information: Roger can learn only Battle Skills, well only by level ups that is. He can learn Symbology only by the use of either “Common Attack Symbols” & “Common Support Symbols”; refer to the list below for what unique battle skills he will learn, when and an evaluation of them. Note: Base cost is the skill cost if used as a minor skill; it varies by both the level of the attack and the characters maximum HP for Major Attacks. The Base Cost purpose is for a guide to fury consumption use and whether it consumes HP or MP to perform. Battle Skills Summary: Name: Fiery Axe CP Cost: 2 Learned: Starts with it Range: Short/Long Base Cost: 20 HP/10 Fury Function: Uses aura to enlarge axe and hack an enemy. Hold the attack button down to initiate. Evaluation: Roger jumps into the air and smashes down with a fire attack, its slow but fairly safe to use early with reasonable damage. Rating: 4.5/10 Name: Whirling Heat CP Cost: 2 Learned: Lv 10 Range: Short Base Cost: 30 HP/12 Fury Function: Attacks with a concealed electromagnetic whip. Hold the attack button down to initiate. Evaluation: Using a rather long whip (well in comparison to Rogers size it is) he hits the opponent hard and causing them to spin, and possibly confuse them. It’s great to use early on to slow the opponent down. Rating: 6/10 Name: Land Mines CP Cost: 4 Learned: Lv 15 Range: NA, they get dropped as he moves. Base Cost: 25 HP/15 Fury Function: Automatically drop mines during movement. Hold the attack button down to initiate. Evaluation: Here Roger places a few land mines on the ground during movement, cause average damage, but unlikely to cause many hits. Rating: 4/10 Name: Flying Torpedo CP Cost: 4 Learned: Lv 20 Range: Short/Long Base Cost: 50 HP/20 Fury Function: A running headbutt. Hold the attack button down to initiate. Evaluation: This allows Roger to burst toward the enemy at an extremely fast past, similar to Cliff’s Fiery Tackle, deals high damage, although has a slow recovery, particularly if it misses. Rating: 6.5/10 Name: Piercing Claw CP Cost: 4 Learned: Lv 25 Range: Short Base Cost: 30 HP/15 Fury Function: Attacks with an extending, clawed arm. Hold the attack button down to initiate. Evaluation: Drills toward the enemy causing both HP & MP damage, safe to use and effective enough. Can also be cancel chained easily, but does cause a knockdown affect, so needs to be used carefully to maximise it. Rating: 7/10 Name: Fiery Fury CP Cost: 4 Learned: Lv 30 Range: Short Base Cost: 50 HP/25 Fury Function: A three-person move, performed alone. Hold the attack button down to initiate. Evaluation: Tough to really use well, again Earth elemental and doesn’t come with fantastic accuracy, if you miss early it won’t finish with a cannon like shot. Rating: 3/10 Name: Shield & Cannon CP Cost: 8 Learned: Lv 40 Range: Long Base Cost: 200 HP/35 Fury Function: A rapid-fire missile attack. Hold the attack button down to initiate. Evaluation: This causes some homing missiles to attack the enemy, great range but damage is nothing to fantastic, starts with 3 missiles and increases with its level. Unfortunately its CP cost is rather high, still it’s a very safe and effective attack to use. Rating: 7/10 Name: Raging Helmet CP Cost: 6 Learned: Lv 50 Range: Short/Long Base Cost: 250 HP/20 Fury Function: Emits a beam of light from his helmet. Hold the attack button down to initiate. Evaluation: Causes a good range wide diameter attack, can be cancel chained. But it’s performed on the edge of short & minor, so can be tough to get the right combination with. Rating: 6.5/10 Name: Bug Triad CP Cost: 6 Learned: Item Requirement: Complicated Scroll, level 2 of the Maze of Tribulations. Range: Short Base Cost: 300 HP/30 Fury Function: Three flying bugs attack separately. Hold the attack button down to initiate. Evaluation: This invokes a few mechanical ‘bugs’ to fly around and support Roger and his attacks for a limited time, adds a great deal of HP & MP damage to what he would normally deliver. Rating: 7.5/10 Name: Star Fall CP Cost: 8 Learned: Item Requirement: Ponderous Folio, level 202 of Sphere 211. Range: Short Base Cost: 750 HP/50 Fury Function: Summons a meteor shower. Hold the attack button down to initiate. Evaluation: Great looking attack, but high CP cost and Fire damage, and the fact its learnt so late hurt its effectiveness. Still this can be a really damaging attack. Rating: 6.5/10 Learning Chart This chart covers every skill Roger can learn by level order; bar the ones every character can learn via items.
![]() Battle Overview: Roger comes packed with many explosive and longer range style attacks, he can offer more miscellaneous support around the battle field. He has an ability to relatively safely hit the enemy, added with his great speed and short stature makes him tough to hit. Good for hit & run style attacks, or to remain back and continually fire at the enemy. However, for a melee style character he is rather poor to keep in the enemies face to hit hard, he will also struggle to do anything about airborne enemies and his standards attacks simply don’t compare to the likes of Cliff, Fayt etc. Not well suited for Stun etc, have him equipped with his skills to cause many an explosion from afar to maximise his effectiveness. Suggested Skill Sets Explosive Attack Sm: Stun Lm: (Empty) SM: Bug Triad LM: Flying Torpedo S1: First Aid S2: Critical Hit HP With this skill set you can have Roger launch his extremely fast and powerful low range Flying Torpedo attack, allows him to move across the battle field quickly with a high damaging attack, just use it when you’re highly likely to hit. Bug Triad is a very safe attack to use at close range to deliver a number of HP/MP damage attacks while you can even run away. Stun is in Sm simply because you have 2 free CP with the remainder, you could easily use Increase HP/MP on any of the minors with the 2 CP. Critical Hit HP can aid with damage, particularly the free hits from Bug Triad, and first aid can help keep him alive for longer at times. Distance Attack Sm: (Empty) Lm: (Empty) SM: Bug Triad LM: Shield & Cannon S1: First Aid S2: (Empty) This allows you to use Rogers’s safest attack Shield & Cannon from afar, then pretty much never misses as it homes in on the enemy. It’s very useful to use frequently as once the skills level increases it can release even more missiles per usage. Bug Triad again is a fairly safe attack to use that deals both HP & MP damage, while you can flee. First Aid takes the last CP slot as its emergency healing ability can never be underestimated. Note that the battle skill evaluations are based on my own thoughts and experiences with the game, I'm sure not everyone will agree with my ratings; feel free to post your own assessments of these abilities or any other comments relating to Roger. |

Oh, Roger is one of my favorite characters! The first time I played through the game, I found him to be so annoying, but later on, I actually grew to like his personality a lot. He had a sense of humor, and he's very cocky. To be honest, he somewhat reminds me of Leon from the second game. In terms of battling, Roger is a pretty good physical fighter. I like to spam his Rapid Torpedo with the long O button because it'll damage and stun the enemies. If anything, this is his best move, since he can effectively use it in a one on one battle to easily wipe the other enemy out. And if it doesn't miss, it leaves enemies stunned for a while, until Roger gets up again. I love using it! Roger is in my other final party. I found that he actually helped quite a bit with MP Kills using Flying Torpedo when he first learns it. Other than that, he's a pretty decent fighter at high levels. |
