This is my review for the visual novel RE: Alistair++, produced by Sakevisual.. Game Download ![]() Plot---(5/5) Here we have Merui, a hotheaded female student who has an undying love for video games, in particular, an MMORPG by the name of Rivenwell ONLINE. When a complete jerk (Alistair) steals a rare item from her, she swears to exact her revenge on him in real life. Unfortunately, she has no clue who he is in real life, but this doesn't stop her from trying! Now as Merui, you must balance life and schoolwork while trying to catch Alistair in the flesh to gain back your precious rare item. And perhaps even fall in love along the way! The plot is interesting as well as refreshing. The suspense keeps the player on their toes as they try to find out as much information about Merui's new friends as possible to undermine the cunning Alistair. You will fall in love with each character. You will be pressed to help Merui on her comical and "dire" quest. The storyline to this endearing visual novel is by far one of it's better features. ![]() Gameplay---(4/5) RE:Alistair uses both traditional visual novel gameplay and adds to it a pinch of status. Merui can work for money to spend at shops, buying items she needs to keep up her schoolwork and to bring her closer to finding the culprit. The player will work through the easy to navigate user interface to make decisions in the storyline, purchase items, and advance throughout the plot. Though simplistic, the routine of the day by day story advance system can get a bit repetitive and boring. Fortunately, there are randomized events that can break up this pattern, though they are few and repetitive in themselves. Players will find some days in the plotline to be stale while others can be eventful. RE:Alistair is a good measure more complex than some visual novels, but can also leave more to be expected, especially in day to day personal choices for Merui to carry out. Over all, the gameplay is addictive but only when the story is quickly advancing. There are some excellent extras such as character profiles to be viewed, giving the player insight on each character present in the story. A CG gallery is also able to be unlocked, along with multiple endings making the re-playability value superb. Visuals---(5/5) This visual novel is primed with professional quality anime profiles and stunning CG. I could go as far as to say that the artwork is the best part of this entire game. The colors are crisp, making the characters come to life in an eye tantalizing way. The quality of the backgrounds used are even amazing and compliment the character design very well. The entire design of the interface is very customized so that it never gets boring to stare at. Overall a very breathtaking visual experience. I was amazed. ![]() Sound--(3/5) The soundtrack to RE:Alistair was by far it's most disappointing aspect. Though the music tracks in themselves are a joy to listen to, I did not feel that the quality or emotion carried over into enhancing this otherwise beautiful game. Not only are they repetitive, they are used often in a constant recycling that the scenes are muddied with them. The sound effects, though distinguishable, are a bit muffled when paired with the music track playing over it. Perhaps this is just an opinion, but you may judge for yourself.. Also, I would have loved to hear voice acting in this particular game. ![]() Overall--(4/5) RE:Alistair is a visual novel that will provide you with high quality entertainment for hours on end. The plot is intriguing and every character is likable to the point that you will want to revisit them time and time again as you unlock the multiple endings and grab the bonus goods. Download it. Play it. Despite it's few minor blips, this is a visual novel everyone should enjoy at least one play through. You will not regret it! |
