I was looking forward to it ever since I saw it on the list of tri-Ace releases on GameFaqs last year. I was surprised when I learned that Sega was publishing it. This intrigued me.

So, I watched some trailers and gameplay videos, and with that, I decided that I would get it.

I love it when a wait pays off like that. I have the game, and I'm really enjoying it.

How about you guys? How do you like Resonance of Fate?

I've only just got the game recently and haven't started it yet. Pretty much put in in to see the disk works and watch the intro...which has incredible, realistic detail too it.

I'm definitely looking forward to playing it when I get some more free time! I'll certainly most my thoughts on it in detail once I've got my teeth into it. :)

Alright, took a while but I finally gave it a decent run today, and will continue to chip away at it for most of May. I haven't had much gaming time the last year or so really, and probably will remain that way forever.

Anyway, at first I was casually going through the game, went out into my first fight thinking, how hard can it be really? I was pressing buttons randomly having no clue what I'm doing and lost...fast!. XD

OK...reset and straight to the training arena! I spent nearly an hour in there just trying to get the hang of the battle system and the different elements within it. There is certainly a bit of a learning curve there...to understand everything that is.

Those that haven't played it though, don't let that put you off too much, regular battles are pretty easy to win with a lazy combo of hero attack, jump, attack, attack, attack. Repeat.

The story hasn't done anything too special yet, but I guess there is more to come, at the moment I've cleared the prologue, done a few missions and...possibly getting carried away with trying to clear Hexes on the overview map, as you at times find a nice bonus for doing so.

Don't know a whole lot more yet, but it is a bit different to the RPG norm, making it refreshing & quite intriguing to play, I look forward to putting more time into it.

I'll be making this topic my own blog at this rate. xD

Starting to get into it a bit more (today as a Public Holiday helps for free time!)

I'm really starting to get the hang of battles, equipping things better and customizing weapons now, unless there is a tough boss battle I'm -finally- confident I can win several 'tough standard' battles in a row. You'd be surprised how long it takes to get used to it actually, my theory of spamming hero attacks doesn't work on tougher opponents as it turns out - only easy ones. If you run low on those charge attacks (or whatever they are technically called) you run the risk of taking one critical hit then been in a near death situation which can be very hard to get out of. Gotta use Hero attacks wisely, otherwise back your judgment to get at least 1 attack per round from a safe distance and use more stealth like techniques.

The more I play it, the more I really love it actually, the unique battle system takes a bit to get used to (a bit like Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria I guess - in terms of the learning curve). A combination of stealth, pure offense & good judgment are the key ingredients to getting a win. You have to think in even a moderately challenging battle - which I like. At the stage I'm at you really only need 5-6 battles in a row to finish an area, so it's no major issue in that regard.

The story is a bit cheeky at times as well, Vashyron the main dude (in my sig) is a sarcastic funny fella. In battle, or during the story he comes up with some pretty clever comments.

If it probably fair to say it would target a slightly older audience then the average Star Ocean game. For tri-Ace fans if you don't really like Valkyrie Profile and just like Star Ocean it might not be that appealing tbh. But of course if you really love the Valkyrie Profile games (which I do) you'll probably be more comfortable taking the time to figure it out, then enjoy it.

Still not that far in to properly review it, but signs are quite good at the moment. :)

Woo, my own blog!

Have I said I really love the battle system yet? Probably, but that alone is making the game enjoyable for me at the moment, having an arena as well to fight in battles to progressively rank higher is great too. And of course there is money, experience, items, battle coins to gain in the process. :)

I'm up to chapter 5 now and making steady progress. The shopping area (also tinkerer) has more things I can get my hands on, particularly more grenades which is very handy!

I'm really getting used to how the level up system works, I find it very beneficial to switch the weapons around with the characters at times so you can farm level ups faster. Since someone with level 3 with grenades will obviously level it up much faster then someone with level 6 grenades, etc. While the benefit for a level up is always a portion of HP/weight regardless of what actual weapon you level up - it all adds to the characters total level. And say you have a handgun at level 10 you still benefit from the HP/weight if it's not equipped. But having a higher level weapon equipped means that particular weapon can get more rounds in each attack - meaning more damage to deliver.

As I said before, level ups alone in the game give you more HP, and more weight to work with - that's it. That may not sound like much, but more weight to work with is very useful. At the moment Vashyron is capable of holding 2 handguns at once for example (simply not possible at the start of the game) - to deliver even more direct damage and shots per attack. :D

I'm going to start a proper review of the game, which I'll probably get finished by the end of the month/(whenever I finish the game.)

I got this game at the end of april but haven't really had much of a chance to play it. I did watch the intro and explored a little in the first area and all i can say is WOW.
I'm completely in love. It's so beautiful.
I was playing at 3am and then encountered the battle system tutorial, so I stopped there. So I've only experienced the battle system in the demo and it didn't excite me. But I realize that things in the demo are a little different and you have less of an idea what you're doing (plus it's all in moon runes xP)

But I'm definitely looking forward to playing it. My computer is dead and the charger won't work so I think I'll play more tonight (using dad's computer now)

Oh and I'll try to be more active here. This is my first post here since last summer I think. This place needs life. I'd be glad to start SOURP (Star Ocean Universe Revival Project)

At the start I was a bit put off by it all as well, it certainly takes a while to get used to the battle system, but I find it very enjoyable when you do. :)

SOURP sounds pretty good to me!

Alright, made a bit more progress since I last posted.

Now I have 2 machine guns! Having 2 handguns in one thing, but the damage potential of 2 machine guns is unbelievable. Initially Leanne had to level up a bit to have enough weight points to carry both - but now all my characters can hold 2 hand guns or machine guns.

For better, or worse you can carry a machine gun & hand gun at the same time, but can't attack with both at the same time...so after trying it once I won't combine those two again (unless the time comes when you can only use one character, then I may have no choice)

Some of the enemies I can fight now though can cause Poison, DAMMIT! I've never known a game to have more deadly poison then this one. Typically in Resonance of Fate you constantly take 'scratch damage' (ie non fatal damage) until your hero gauge empties - at that point you lose a hero point for every 1,000 HP you need to restore - only when you run out of hero points to you take fatal damage. So most of the time you can protect the gauge and well, never be killed - with the exception of area and special bosses of course.

But now even a few more average foes can poison me, and it's direct health damage! Completely bypasses the hero gauge - DAMMIT! :scream:

Needless to say it's tough to deal with, particularly in a dungeon with several battles in a row - there is ways to remove the poison sure, but by then you've at least lost some overall health. Which can only be recovered by rest (impossible in dungeon) or VERY RARE perfect aids.

I have got to defeat poison inflicting enemies before they can even attack, or at least try temporary stun attacks to give me some more time. Hmm, certainly adding a new tougher element to the mix...

I haven't touched it in a while, to be honest.

Been busy playing Final Fantasy XIII, and whatnot. I think I'll pop Resonance of Fate it in now...

I just finished it not long ago. :D

Very, VERY enjoyable game. Good battle system with an excellent unique story, you won't find too many cliches here that's for sure. I don't like to use the word 'best' lightly, but that really is one of the best games I've played in a long time, certainly on the Xbox 360 anyway.

And while I'm finished, there is still more to do. I've still got a few more places to climb in the arena, and the new area that's recently become available, obviously the post game dungeon is quite difficult. I might give that another crack too, although I have a feeling I'll need to grind a fair bit to be able to cope in there.

I'm writing a proper review for it at the moment, so should put that up over the next few days for anyone that's interested. :)

IMO it is, definitely. One of the best RPG's I've played in a long time.

I'm now working on my post game content, pushing my rank further in the arena, now up to 49-2. It's quite a tough battle but I managed once already, so have to nut out another two then I'm up to 50! Which appears to be the last of them, although can't say for sure until I complete it.

I've also started to make progress in the challenging post game dungeon 'Neverland'. I've cleared two of the areas which some degree of difficulty but managing.

Of course to do so, I've been grinding a bit at the arena pumping up my levels and gun levels, and trying to customize my guns as best as actually possible.

I'm still enjoying it though which is the main thing, often when I reach post game dungeons I lose interest, but not this time. It's still fun and challenging at the same time. :D

I've been so distracted with handheld consoles I haven't even touched the game again. Dx
Does it get less confusing after the first bit?

It takes a while to get used to, the story can be a bit ambiguous at times but of course unfolds as you progress.

It will take you a while to get used to battles as well, they are quite different. You'll have to learn how to use your hero gauge wisely most importantly, and fast otherwise you'll get owned in battles. Training section of the arena is your friend.

I just completely finished with the game, just under 80 hours to do so.

Achieved the 50-4 ranking, which means the toughest fight available and achievement is done.

Then I also finished Neverland...interesting post game boss and some strange rewards in there, but a very good challenge.

40/48 achievements done, I guess I could try get all of them but probably won't bother. xD

The only option now is to do it all over again with a harder difficulty, not sure if I'll do that, at least not yet.

I popped the game into my Xbox 360 from the first time in a while just now.

I'm still on Chapter 5, and I have over 30 hours of play time. >_>

30 hours and still chapter 5? You spending a lot of time at the arena, or farming energy hexes?

Chapter 5 boss eh? Can't remember that one exactly, but if you are getting pwned badly look at adding a magazine round to your machine gun. If it's a heavily armored enemy armor piecing rounds might be just what you need. ;)

Ahh yeah, that is a real pain in the ass battle.

I think for him I worked more on using full charge hero attacks with my handgun users first - which won't kill him I know. But that way you can stun the crap outta him and break up his gauges. He can't attack while he is stunned so break him up heaps first. At least then when you take some of his armor off you restore your hero gauge.

To be more advanced build up your Resonance gauge while doing it. Then unload a charged up tri-attack with everyone. :D

I beat him shortly after making that last post, actually.

I pwned him simply by utilizing the Incendiary Rounds. I had Vashyron equipped with an SMG and the Magazine Case, and an Ice-Resistant Vest just to be safe.

I ended up dealing over 3,000 points of Direct Damage to the Yeti in one shot, netting me the achievement for dealing over 2,000 points of damage in one shot. :P

Well done! I must admit I found those Yeti's to be some of the toughest enemy types in the game too.

Are you changing any of the characters costumes, or just leaving them as they come?

I prefer to leave the characters' costumes as is, but I did change Zephyr's jacket to the white one (forgot the name).

Oh, and I pwned the Cannon Colossus of Chapter 6 using Electrified Rounds. Man, those elemental rounds sure come in handy.
