I prefer it that way in the game, anyway. You don't have to use different symbols on different enemies with different weaknesses and resistances. And somehow, the primary elements are always the ones that have non-suckish high level spells!

You mean like fire and thunder based spells?

Yeah, those spells always get advanced versions. And the powerful spells like Dar of Holy only get one or two high leveled ones. It's the same in SO, too!

Thunder spells become unusually spectacular when they get to their third or fourth tier.

Lightning Blast was very uninteresting, but Plasma Cyclone and Thunder Storm were so... awesome to watch!

Thundaga is great in most Final Fantasies. But it wasn't much in FFVI...

Easy wins have never been my style
Fire Bolt > Explosion
Ice Needles > Deep Freeze
Lightning Chain > Thunder Flare
Earth Glaive > Stone Rain

For some examples, although I tend to prefer Ice Needles to Deep Freeze, even though Ice Needles is one you learn earlier, I prefer it's direct nature, rather then area coverage.

Explode > Flare

Final Fantasies usually have Flare... so I suppose the Star Ocean equivalent would be Explode. And it's a lot more impressive than Flare, I gotta admit!

Wouldn't that be: Explosion = Flare?

I think it goes like this, including the ones added in The Last Hope:

Ice Needles -> Deep Freeze -> Arctic Impact
Fire Bolt -> Eruption -> Explosion -> Volcanic Burst
Lightning Blast -> Thunder Flare -> Plasma Cyclone
Earth Grave -> Stone Rain -> Terra Hammer

Wait, I'm sure there are other ones between the lightning and ice symbols... Man, they made too many!

No, I compare the two, but I think the Star Ocean Explode looks more spectacular.

They both look very, very similar, though. It's a giant burst of energy that combusts.

Plasma Cyclone looked... amazing!

Hey Fate, have you seen Extinction? I think I read it was in the Cave of the Seven Stars...

Yup, I use Extinction as Leon's secondary spell in Second Evolution and Erys' main spell in First Departure.

In First Departure and Second Evolution, it looks identical: some black meteors rain down diagonally onto the ground. As a result, a giant burst of energy explodes at the center of the map, dealing maximum damage to all enemies.

But in The Last Hope, it looked much worse. It resembled one of those auras with the hexagonal shell, much like the one that Xemnas used against you to shoot endless lasers at you in Kingdom Hearts II. The thing explodes on the inside, and a beam of light radiates from the middle. The aura gives away into a little explosion.

I liked it better in the remakes.

But it's not that short. The duration of the spell is shorter than Meteor Swarm, though, so that's one of the reasons why people use Leon instead of Celine. And it has no element, too. But still, the spell takes about five seconds. Noah is probably the fastest high level symbology.

Yeah, Meteor Swarm may be nice, but it takes forever, and once again, Explode did the same thing for me!

Explode was like confetti, really. It was all sparkly and stuff when it activates.

But that's some EFFECTIVE confetti, eh? I could easily deal 9999 damage with Trance.

Yes, exploding confetti! Erys should be dealing about 4,000 damage with it when you first get her.

Well, with Trance, she dealt about 7000 damage. It was ridiculously amazing.

And when she's a high enough level, she should be able to deal 9,999 damage to all enemies.

Yeah, she's the strongest mage, without a doubt. She can even replace Millie! She has Condition Cure and Explod, she's set.
