bite my shiny metal-
What are your favourite spells to use? Which spell has the best animation? Who is the best mage from the series? Do you prefer offensive mages (eg. Celine), support mages (eg. Millie) or a mixture(eg. Rena...I think...)?

I enjoy breaking Noah out and drowning my opponents. I do like the animation for Southern Cross and as for mages, I'd have to go with Leon, who's pretty decent once he's levelled up.
Woo, Suikoden!

I don't know why, but I really like Fhoen... Especially when Noel casts it. I love the way he says it, it really gives you an idea of how warm that wind actually is.

Another one would be Ronyx's "explosion" spell... Which made me laugh quite often as I always make jokes about it... lol ;)

Deep...Freeze! Anything that can freeze enemies for an instant kill is always awesome, in Till the End of Time anyway.

I love Southern Cross in the PSP versions though, great animation and always excellent power.

I tend to prefer a more hybrid mage type, one that can heal, revive and also deliver some offensive damage such as Rena & Sophia.

I liked Extinction in the PSP version, probably because of how it looks and its power. But it The Last Hope, Extinction looked... like an aura instead of what it looked in the previous games.

And then, there's Faize's Reaping Spark. When he first learned it, I had him equip a Mythril Rapier, had him use Mindflare, and had him cast a few Enlightens on himself, and he dealt over 15,000 damage with one cast. I began to use him, but later in the game, before the Onyx Saber is available, of which I have not created yet, it doesn't help out all that much.

Ravenous Fiend was another one of my favorites, because of its insane damage output. I had Leon constantly spam it for over 16,000 damage a cast. I leveled up Leon to level 255 by killing the Dragon Tyrant with this move alone.

Speaking of which, Leon is by far my favorite mage. I like the kid for some reason, maybe because his personality is close to mine. So is his age, for that matter. And his birthday is only two days after my own: November 25th and November 23rd, respectively.

My library of knowledge of EVERY symbology is limited. So, I'll use the more powerful spells I've seen in First Departure.
Explode
Meteor Swarm
Faerie Light
And that's about it. I haven't seen Extinction, so...

I believe I have already mentioned this, but I find it strange how the characters have to pause between each word when casting Symbology. Don't count Till the End of Time and The Last Hope, though, just First Departure and Second Evolution. Actually, I've only heard Erys cast them without stopping. Instead of saying "Meteor! Swarm!", she just says "Meteor Swarm!".

I guess it's supposed to make it sound like an actual spell being cast. It only seems to happen for Symbology. Any character using skills will say the action fully and not broken.

No, I think it just sounds strange. It sounds much more realistic if there's a whole casting phrase while the spell is charging up, and when it comes out, there's no pause. For example, look at Sophia casting Meteor Swarm. Actually, it was pretty annoying: "Open the gateway to the sacred land, and let fly the arrow of justice to strike down evil! Meteor Swarm!"

How about Asmodeus from First Departure? "HAHA! You should be ashamed of your weakness! (insert symbology here)!"

I think I've read somewhere that when Sarah is casting some lightning symbol, she actually says: "Lightning! Uh... what was it again?" But I haven't heard it yet; I have to hear it!

You know, I think Final Fantasy had the right idea. They just don't talk at all when casting a spell!

No, but dancing doesn't help with casting magic, either. I find rather funny and embarrassing if one were to do that in real life.

And also, I enjoy stunlocking with Sophia's Thunder Flare. Enemies are barely even able to move once they're caught in it, and the damage keeps piling up.

How about cornering a single enemy and just WAILING on them with group attacks? I did this with Gabriella in First Departure(was lucky to get it working) and she was beaten! I didn't see a single Meteor Swarm!

I don't see the reason why Meteor Swarm switches elements in Star Ocean: Till the End of Time. In the first and second game, it's non-elemental, but in the third, it's suddenly fire. It reminds me of a certain spell in Final Fantasy: Flare.

What, that's makes sense! Besides, in Chrono Trigger, it's fire-elemental.

Spells change elements for no reason, though. And I think that in the original Star Oceans, there were seven or eight elements, including Void, Star, and some other one. However, it disappeared in the remakes, right?

I see Fire, Ice, Lightning, Earth, Water, Wind, Dark, and Light elements in First Departure and probably in Second Evolution. Hmm... aren't those the same elements EXACTLY the same as in FFXII?

It makes sense, though. Ice is created by water, so they should be of one element. Thunderstorms are the combination of both wind and lightning, so they should also be one.

I don't think I've ever played any game where Thunder was wind-elemental...

It was in Golden Sun. I thought it made sense. But the water and ice one is the one that doesn't make sense. I don't think there was such a thing as an ice spell in The Last Hope. Even Ice Needles and Arctic Impact were considered water.
