One of Sega's longest running RPG series is the Phantasy Star series, which started way back in 1987. I believe the series was originally intended to end at Phantasy Star IV - although it has since extended to Phantasy Star Online, Phantasy Star Universe among others. Have you played any of the Phantasy Star titles, is there one that really stands out to you? Discuss anything about the series here. For me, I've played a few of them - but Phantasy Star IV for me stands out by a long way, I think it's one of the best RPG's made. I loved the arrogance of Rune, the dire situations the party got into - particularly due to Zio who was a pretty awesome villain. It was simple but presented so well, I played it several times over way back when I had my Mega Drive (Genesis). Since then I've tried a few others, such as Universe which I felt was alright, but I haven't found any to compare to the original series. I might try the new one on PSP though, I'm intrigued by that. |

Never played any. Its funny I always considered myself a pretty big RPG fan but I didn't play several of the ones you guys have brought up  When I finally get through all the back log I've created for myself I'll give this and the other games a go if I can get my paws on 'em. |

Don't worry, I'm exactly the same. I feel as though I've played several RPGs, but I know there are still many I haven't either, probably many that you would have played. I think the original Phantasy Star series was the best, although perhaps I'm biased as it's where I started. I can't speak highly enough for Phantasy Star IV. Speaking of the series, I'm quite possibly going to purchase Phantasy Star Portable soon, that might be my next RPG. Since I've still got to wait over a month until The Last Hope gets here. >.< |
