Easy wins have never been my style

Alright, we aught to have a topic for this! There are six numbered titled to date in the Dynasty Warriors series, with a bucket load of variants, ports etc on other systems. I've played quite a few of them, and at the moment I'm really enjoying Dynasty Warriors 6. It's still fairly mindless beating the crap out of hundreds, even thousands of soldiers. But I really appreciate the expanded strategic element, in terms of targets, base emphasis and more interactive terrain. It just opens the whole game up to a more complete overall product. Having to bush open castle doors to get in, secure grounds to build ladders and siege equipment etc, I just love it, reminds me of one of the scenes in Infinite Undiscovery actually! In everyone to date I tend to always go with Zhang Liao as my favorite characters, quite a competent warrior with a great blend of strength, skill and enough speed to get around as well. |

OK. total newbie for any of the dynasty warriors games. However, I am close to getting one. Is it just hack and slash or what? I have never really looked into it before. Unfortunately, the game has to be somewhat addicting for me to really get into it. |

Yep, the gameplay is hack and slash. It's been a while since I've played. The last one I played was Warriors Orochi. I usually go with Zhao Yun or Ma Chao - long weapons ftw! Great at getting heaps of enemies at once. I do like the fast Ling Tong as well. Zhuge Liang/Sima Yi are cool characters but a little impractical to use :\ |

I haven't barely played this since new year cause I'm a bit bored of the old Hack N Slash stuff but I'm playing again now & the game I'm playing is ... SW2 Empires ... Using created characters except they look really crappy. |

I really loved SW2 Empires as well, the CAW ability really helped, that and it was created better then the DW Empires games. Just more tactics, formations and details so you have a better idea of what is happening. I've only got about 3 story modes left to do on DW6, I'm trying to do Liu Bei's story at the moment. |

Bumpage. Started playing DW7, happy with it so far. The new story setup really appeals to me, I fear that once you do all 4 thought that's it. But for now, I'm really enjoying it. I like the new weapon system too, a nice innovation. Maybe it makes characters a little less unique, but they still have special attacks unique & of course unique Musou's to still keep them individual. Lu Bu still scares me again. lol Graphics aren't really up there with PS3 quality though, still good enough to play no doubt, but it honestly doesn't seem much better then PS2 quality. |

Old topic is kind of old, but I love Dynasty Warriors. I think I've played all of the games since 3 (excluding Strikeforce; I wasn't a fan). And yeah, it was nice playing 7 with my brother and having that "Ah crap" moment when Lu Bu appears. We used to spend hours trying to defeat Lu Bu on the higher levels. My favorite for the older games was Zhen Ji, but I've switched over to mostly using Sun Shang Xiang for the newer games. I liked that they switched back to giving Zhen Ji her flute for 7, though. There's just something awesome about mowing down thousands of guys with an instrument. And though I really like the newer games, but was a little sad when they fixed the pronunciations. A part of me still misses "Cow Cow" and "Cow Pee".
