Easy wins have never been my style
I didn't think it would be here in Australia yet, but I got my hands on it! My fiancée was at a nearby major shopping center today so I asked her to look for a copy, and got one from JB Hi-Fi - for just $59 as well, RRP is supposed to be $69.95. It just arrived today.

Anyway, damn it's good for a NDS game. The intro at the beginning is as we have seen in trailers, but seeing it for myself on the NDS is really something. It's incredible watching the NDS pump out a scene like that, it's not far behind PSP quality really. The music is per the background music on European site - which I like!

Now battles, they are tactically orientated, where you take turns as a phase, then the enemy does, repeat. But it still has the Valkyrie Profile element, if you can stack your characters next to the character you can then enter the phase of having 3 or 4 people attack at once - keeping it's action hybrid element as you time when to strike, all at once or one by one, your call. With multiple attacks you have a great chance to get your attack gauge to 100 and open the door for a special attack - Soul Crush. I love it, move close and heal injured people, then when 3/4 are near give a full on assault to try defeat your opponent with no counter. There is even some reasonable voice acting (for DS anyway) with some attacks in battles, dialogue is all reading though. - That is how it seems early on anyway, things might change later on.

I won't say much on the story though, but it certainly explains itself pretty quickly as to why Wyl has it in for Lenneth.

Anyway, damn I'm excited, it's probably the first NDS game I've really wanted to play, first impressions are good!

And I've now finished it, didn't get the best ending though I've learnt. That will have to wait for a replay.

The concept of the game is fascinating, nothing more then vengeance to kill the Valkyrie, and achieving it by any means necessary - even sacrificing your own allies. It's a refreshing change to the save the world nonsense to be honest.

After playing it for a little while though you learn how to tactically manipulate the game and find easy wins, even without the Destiny Plume or it's unlocked benefits. It's certainly not as difficult as the likes of a Fire Emblem in the genre once you know what your doing. Suspend Motion for spell casting when a few enemies are around, use occasional stat buffs then gang up on enemies with baby steps and your home and hosed really.

It was worth playing though, it's unique and a nice twist to the series, I might review it properly after I'm done with a replay, see how I go for both time and motivation.
