Do you remember your first time playing any of the star ocean titles?

The first star ocean I played was Till the End of Time. I was in the local video rental store and I happened to see star ocean 3 in there. I took a look at it and I never heard of star ocean before so I thought that I would give it a try. Once I started playing that was it, i was hooked. I hope to play the second one and hopefully the 4th one if it eventually comes to the ps3.

bite my shiny metal-
It was a while back so my memory's a bit fuzzy, but I rented Star Ocean 2 and I quite enjoyed it. I remember not picking it up earlier because it had a plain-looking cover (lol) but after playing a couple of other RPGs and then finding out that SO was an RPG, I decided to try it. I got up to the recruitment of Bowman (I think). A couple of years ago, I decided to actually get the game, but I've only recently finished it :P
Woo, Suikoden!

Easy wins have never been my style
Well, for me it would have been a little over 4 years ago now, I never knew anything about Star Ocean until the game was purchased for me in Xmas 04. My fiancée knew I liked RPG's and apparently asked the guys at EB whatever was the best of the new RPG's released at the time - and they advised Till the End of Time.

I ended up playing it quite a lot over that time, and for quite a while after as well. I loved it, and that is what got me into the series. :)

My first Star Ocean was First Departure. I was watching a review on X-Play of it, and though "I'll try that." When I sat down and played it, it was great. Since, I've tried to play them all.

I first played Star Ocean after I played Radiata Stories. I found out that the Fayt Armor was form a Star Ocean game. At first, I felt that Star Ocean was going to be a boring technology based game, but when I actually bought it, boy was I wrong. It became my favorite game series.

I know what you mean. I thought it was going to be a kiddy game, I mean, look at the cover...

I didn't think that it was going to be a kiddy game, since the technology meant war and stuff. But I did think that it was going to be really modern and stuff like Dirge of Cerberus. When I saw swords and magic in the game, I knew I made a good choice!=]

I don't know. I've played PLENTY of games with swords and sorcery. I thought this game would be TYPICAL, at best.

I imagined this game to use machinery a whole bunch. Somewhere mixed in the modern era and the future. I had no idea that it would incorporate the use of spells and such. I didn't know that it was an RPG to begin with!

And I read so much about this game being a sci-fi RPG. I was expecting the whole game to take place in space. While that would've been interesting, I'm glad to see they went with what they did.

I thought sci-fi was going to be all robots and stuff like that. I'm glad that they took the initiate to incorporate the RPG traits into the game, while keeping it sort of like a sci-fi game. I loved how it came out.

I like how it allows you to do basically anything you want! You can tape a meteor rock to your favorite sword, you can take a picture of something, and somehow it replicates it into a three-dimensional object, and you can write novels in like three seconds!

I love the item creation part of the Star Ocean series. You can actually make your own weapons rather than find them in treasure chests or pick them as drop items from enemies.

Yeah, it takes the pain of finding everything in a dungeon. However, the only thing I find annoying, is that you can only hold a max of 20 of something. A random limit, but also an annoying one. I think 50 would've been better.

I didn't like that, either. I always had to go back and rebuy stuff. The Tales series has this exact same thing.

I'm not sure why they chose this... perhaps this game needed some challenge. But, it's more of a nuisance than a boost in difficulty...

I don't have a problem getting more than enough of items that I need. For example, I can just as easily buy 99 Blueberries or something, but I don't want to have to use them before buying them again, when I'm only allowed to carry 20 at a time. It consumes so much time, having to go back to stores to fill up every time you waste it all!

Also, having to go BACK and FORTH because one town has one thing you need, and another town has... EVERYTHING else.

And usually, there's some sort of dungeon that the game makes you go through to return form one pace to another, For example, Mt. Metorx...

How about the godawful trip from Ionis to Van y Ille? Since you move like a slug the whole time, it just drags on and on...

The game also has the most unusual means of transportation: a Bunny. It was definitely strange. I thought the Psynard was cool, though.

It seems very unique.

It's also funny how you can pickpocket your own part members. It shows how greedy they can be and keep all the good stuff for themselves instead of sharing it with the party! :P

Yeah, but I find the Contraband to be pointless. Sure, you can use it to get the CHEAP accessory, but you could randomly lose affection with someone.
