For those that have played both, are you happy with the remake, do you think it is better?

I'm a fair way into the remake at the moment, and I'm happier with some of the new voice actors and cutscenes, but things like some new names, and length of scenes and random battles (without today's Skip Event options & viewable enemies) are really annoying the hell out of me.

*I haven't got Welch yet though, I might like it more when I do.

I like it, but not as much more then the original then I hoped to, how about you guys?

Hate it next to the original. Classics like this always seem to get messed up in remakes..

TzoTzo's LOVE SLAVE
Most of the voice acting is terrible compared to the older version. I don't think Vanilla Bean from Bumpy Trot fits Claude's voice even if the characters look much alike (I swear that's who does the voice....sounds much too similar not to be)! HA! However, I LOVE Shigeo and Decus and Nicolus' voices.

I'm not happy with name changes....at all.

I'm not happy Welch came in and ruined the game....at all. hich is why I made perfectly sure I left her behind.

Most importantly....I HATE CHARACTER REDSIGNS. Look what they did to Shigeo! :'( You can't even see his beautiful mouth anymore. And poor Ruprecht looks much to young for what he's supposed to be...plus he doesn't have squinty eyes anymore. Its as if the retarded artists can't see the sprites and what they're really supposed to look like. Haha.

BUT, Shigeo was shown much on cutscenes and his voice is the sex. So majour pluses for that.

I guess it's a mixed bag for me.

Technically, the names are being changed back to the originals, with the original localization. I like the whole Lucifer/Gabriel thing.

Having never played the original, I can't compare the new voice acting to the original. But Epcar Entertainment is pretty cool. Spike Spencer did Claude, and fun fact: he voiced Marth from Fire Emblem in the anime dub :O (It lasted two episodes because production in Japan ended.

Yeah, that's true in a way, I guess Square Enix just wanted to make names more consistent for the entire series. Those such name changes didn't bother me at all. But the one off sub-characters is my issue, Creepy and Weepy is just pathetic, and I want Bobot back! :scream:

Those are names that didn't need to be changed, nor work to improve any consistencies for the remainder of the series.

That aside, I think overall the remake is better, the voice acting (now with a fully voiced script) got a much needed improvement, new cut scenes chucked in were nice and I found it fascinating to see how Welch fit into the equation. The good thing is though, the real die hard fans of Second Story that don't like it can just go back and cling to Second Story and play the original and pretend it doesn't exist. :P

Second Evolution (and First Departure for that matter) got new Star Ocean fans which is a huge win.

That they did, I probably wouldn't have looked into the series if it werent for:

1; You bringing the series to my attention
2; If the series wasn't as long running as 1997 (Tales as well) I probably wouldn't have cared, but the bonus interest comes from the series warranting two remakes.
3; The fact that it is Tri-Ace and not originally Square-Enix (as I despise FF, seeing Squenix really put me off at first)
4; Motoi Sakuraba being the composer. Sadly enough, I think that was actually the initial point of interest. What can I say, his music is amazing, he can pull off almost every genre successfully.

On a similar note, the reason I started to look into the Tales games is when I learnt that tri-Ace originally worked as Wolf team - which was a combination of effectively what is now tri-Ace and Namco Tales Studio. Motoi Sakuraba been a bi-product of that as he too worked with Wolf Team in the past.

The remake was great, and gives opportunity for those people who didin't played second story, but i think Jesse McCartney or Vic Mignogna should be the voice of Claude C. Kenny :)

Nibelung something or other!
i dont like how they changed the animation for everything, the only character who looks better is bowman, and all the nedians look like theyre dying of malnutrition (rena in particular)
but that doesnt mean i dont like the game
adding voices to the PAs was a good idea, and how some parts were in anime
it annoys me how they changed the names of the 10 wise men, every town, and items
i thought welch would ruin it, but she made a nice addition, and her voice fits perfectly, i enjoyed playing with her
i figured since they were remaking it, that they would make more PAs then they did, and go more in depth with the endings
still a great game, and it gives people who didnt play the original a chance
