I've been trying to get this for a while now, but I've never seen many copies of this around the stores here, apart from EBgames for $69.95 who I despise. But I finally purchased a copy of Ebay for $49.95, so I should have this next week. I look forward to it, it will be great to see how it all started, with a full English version! |

Woo, I finished it today, it's fairly short but was quite enjoyable. I've already started a replay and looked up a recruitment guide to try get those I missed this time around. There is a real Second Story feel to it no doubt with menu's, item creation, battles etc, which is good. Add that to nice new artworks, good voice acting and a few nice anime scenes really gives it a bit of life. I'm certainly glad I went out and purchased it, great addition to my PSP library. ![]() The optional characters I found and used on my first play (without guides!) were Cyuss, Pericci, Phia & T'nique. Out of those I think Cyuss is my favourite of them, I just love the guys personality, particularly with PA's in bars.

I thought the remake was horrible. Didn't like any of the stuff they changed especially the voice acting and the anime style bits. I suggest getting an emulator and playing the game in its original form. I don't dare try the SO2 remake :s |

As usual we're of different opinion ![]() I haven't played the original and I've only played about half of First Departure but I thought it was pretty good. I actually liked the voice acting and anime bits, I actually wanted MORE anime bits. |

Remakes are always dangerous if you loved the original version. I loved First Departure because I never really got into the emu, although I'm not sold at all on Second Evolution at all after playing Second Story so much. :/ |

True. And I wish they would stop making them! They seem to make an awful lot these days. And on that note I'll be really annoyed if they finally totally wreck FFVII with a remake -_- Ah well at least they won't be making anymore star ocean remakes...unless they do some for the DS...ewwww! |

DS remakes are extremely unlikely for the SO series...unless they tried Blue Sphere, but nothing else seems realistic. Remakes are great to get new faces to the series though, a lot of people that never played Star Ocean before are into the swing of it now thanks to the PSP remakes prior the Last Hope. It's increasing the fanbase which is no doubt good for sales - so Square Enix have done their job well, but of course those that played the original versions are much harder to please. Seeing just one or two things we like getting changed, even minor things like names is quite frustrating. (Creepy and Weepy for example, WTF! )Thankfully I never played the emu (much) so I completely loved First Departure. ^_^ |

Ah, First Departure. Been about two months since I've touched that remake. I played through and got ALMOST all of the characters. I never got Erys, but I've been trying again. My personal look on the game is: it's pretty good. I was surprised how much things were different when looking at the original. I haven't played the original so I can't really compare them, but I'd say this game is more than worth getting. Just my opinion, anyway. |

Mine was only $39.99. And it was a new one, too. I guess the price differs a lot from place to place? I loved the game. I beat it once, but then I realized how easy the game was, since the hardest boss had only a little over 100,000 HP. And so, I'm trying to go through it a few more times, soloing it with only one character. I've already completed my Roddick solo playthrough, so right now, I'm trying to do an Ilia solo playthrough. |

Sorry to be a book worm. But Neo Revorse's total comes to 95,400 HP. Or was it? Been a while, but it was less than 100,000 HP. You told me in "another forum" about how you used the Gabriella fight to level Roddick to 255 and make the game a cake-walk. Tell me how hard the Ilia one is! |

Haha, nice one. But apparently, my brain can't remember HP totals. I did? Oh, yeah. I remember now: I posted my strategy in my thread. Now I have to think and experiment on how to do the Ilia one. I'll probably use Tortoise Smash on her or something. |

Neh, I wouldn't call myself a master. But First Departure is definitely easier that Second Evolution. In fact, it's even easier than Till the End of Time and The Last Hope. But it was totally worth the buy; I loved the game! Plus, it's portable! |

Isn't that the best part about any portable game? So, Second Evolution is harder? Well, guess I'll be finding out soon. |

Yeah, you can play them anywhere. So I don't need to stay in my room and play them all day long. I can actually go places and play them. That's what I like about the game being a PSP remake. But only I think that it's easier. Other people might disagree. |

You can play them in a car, on the rood(?), at school, on the bus TO school, and finally, in bed.

Star who is a member here, although hasn't been active recently declares himself one of those. He has played all the Star Ocean titles, including Blue Sphere and wrote some walkthroughs. I would never call myself one though. /Random ramble. Harder then First Departure you mean? I'd say yes, some bosses are much more challenging, and the game is also quite a bit longer, even too long in parts. I wish the PSP remakes, Second Evolution in particular had an event skip option... |

See, Ralz? I am way below the ranks of other people; I just know how to play correctly and effectively.
I know! Sometimes, if you lose a battle that's before a long cutscene, you have to watch it again, because you can't skip it! I remember when I first played, I had no idea you couldn't beat Metatron in the Sorcery Globe area, and he killed me. I had to rewatch that near seven minute scene about five times! And it was so annoying in Infinite Undiscovery! |

I never really had the problem with this game. I was way overleveled(what? who doesn't?) and even Asmodeus was a cakewalk. |

You shouldn't have had many problems, First Departure is probably the easiest of all the Star Ocean titles to date. The only real challenge is if you head off to the mines that Cyuss reveals too early in the game I found.Hmm, Infinite Undiscovery had event skip didn't it? |

That's the place where I train at the beginning of the game for my solo challenges!=P Ilia went up 17 levels after I was done with one of the battles. But unfortunately, after level 50, the leveling up process is slow. I'm only level 60 so far, and the enemies are still dealing damage to me. You can train there very early in the game with the use of Flare Bombs. I found this out myself, after some experimenting. I found that Flare Bombs always dealt 400 damage, so I made Roddick go in there to fight. Have 10 Flare Bombs ready (you can buy them at Badam's) before you go in. Once inside, run near the exit (to avoid death after the battle) until you encounter something. If it's the bandits, let them kill you. But if it's a group of worms or plants, stay and fight. Run around them, making sure not to get hit, and once you get to the center, use a Flare Bomb to hit all enemies. Oh, make sure they're clustered together before you do, or you'll run out of Flare Bombs. The plants take 9 Flare Bombs to die, and the worms take 10. After the battle, you should earn more Fol than it takes to buy more Flare Bombs, so you'll be getting EXP and making a profit at the same time. Run out and save straight away. I have never seen this strategy anywhere, so I assume I'm the first (that I know of) to use it. But it works! You could get to level 80 before even going to Portmith!
Really? I never even saw it! I looked everywhere in the options setting, but all I found was the enable voice and subtitles thing. I found it strange that it didn't, though. |
