Well Star Ocean Universe is now www.staroceanuniverse.com. ...well, not quite, but soon it will be. Since epitaphttc.com is the main domain, everything shares it as an add-on, so the CP will be for all domains under epitaphttc.com. staroceanuniverse.com is an addon and will be able to be accessed through www.staroceanuniverse.com OR www.staroceanuniverse.epitaphttc.com, because it automatically gives you a sub-domain to the main account for it in addition to its own name. This just means extra traffick if EkIchi decides to advert it as part of epitaphttc.com and whatnot, pulling in from both directions to www.staroceanuniverse.com

It had its own separate directory which will house the files, web-pages, and information: the file bank can be shared globally between all domains there, which means unlimited storage, period. Unlimited bandwidth, period. You'll be able to upload images, demo downloads, musick files, etc. Anything you want to link back to your main page. The CP has a web page builder inside with step-by-steps on building simple web-pages, or if you know HTML/CSS, you may edit it that way as well. Everything for SOU will be kept under the staroceanuniverse folders on the CP, for easy access and so we can be a bit organized.

I'm currently trying to learn everything about the CP, so bear with me. There are plenty of extra features that I don't even know about yet. I'll get into researching those and how they can be beneficial to us.

I will PM Fayt and Quart the login information so they can go get their hands dirty in the CP. Haha.

Let's spread some Star ocean/Tri-Ace love, people!

-----

As many of you know, I made an honest proposal to merge SOU with a few people of EkIchi to create a large Star Ocean base, possibly the largest Star Ocean website online, for everything Star Ocean related plus a smaller section for other Tri-Ace installments.

I don't know if this has gone over with anyone yet, but we have been discussing things via PMs, and I figured a thread for ideas on specifics and to answer questions would be nice. Here we can plan and look at the pros and cons of this merge and website building and then, if it is successfully accepted, start planning things for the actual website, setting goals for ourselves concerning updates, layout, informative aspects, etc.

StarOceanUniverse.com IS an available domain name last I checked, so that could be used easily if that is what the site and forum names are planned to remain as. The domain would cost me $10 a year extra, and would share the same CP (as far as I know) as with my other domain. Money is not a problem. I would be paying for the domain and renewals every time until/unless someone wishes to help me. The forums would remain Zetaboards unless we wanted to upgrade these as well (I suppose there's an option to upgrade?).

The main purpose of the website would be to host a user-friendly portal for every morsel of information on the Star Ocean series that we could muster. It would feature extensive information on Star Ocean places, terms, characters, enemies, items, FAQs, walkthroughs, secrets, releases, VAs, merchandise, etc. plus a gallery for videos, images, and musick tracks. The website would cover all of the SO installments, not limited to just games, but manga and anime as well as drama CDs. A smaller section for other Tri-Ace games would be present, but the focal should be placed on the Star Ocean line of things.

A separate section would house all information on Star Ocean: Fallen Angels and its updates.

The website would be maintained by Fayt and his leads as well as me and my few friends, responsible for keeping the site updated and researching information to be placed on. A few of my graphick designers would eventually make custom graphicks for the website, perhaps even a flash layout for ultimate professionalism.

I would require nothing except a bit of participation and the merge itself. I have plenty of spare time to devote to this outside of creating SOFA, which is essentially keeping it updated as well.

Please feel free to discuss this here. pros, cons, questions, and suggestions.

By merge it basically means we'd move the main site to a new host, and have Decus and co. also update it with Quark and I, correct?

I'm somewhat interested as you know already, although the biggest hurdle I see is the learning curve of a new host. Webs is vastly different to our new proposed host and it will take a while to get used to. Webs while inferior in many areas is very easy to manage.

I'd love to know what anyone else thinks of the idea as well. With more support like with Decus and co Quark and I might be able to really push this place to the next level and really become something. Which I think is great for the Star Ocean and tri-Ace fans out there.

The forums are fine with Zetaboards IMO, I've seen several forums out there and I honestly believe Zetaboards is the best of the free ones out there, and they are working on creating a Premium version as well, which is not great at the moment but will get better. It's also safe in that been a free board it will never get deleted, even if we opted for Premium and opted out at a later date the forum would still be here, just minus the few extra's Premium offers.

Anyway, I'm curious as to what others think about it. If we can jump the hurdles and get more support this might really work.

I advertised this board via my forums. Hopefully that pulls in more interest and helps the place grow.

For forum upgrades, how much do you speculate that will cost to go to a premium board (that means more professional-looking and more features, correct?)?

If so I'd work on getting some money to upgrade straight away. I'm already working on this just in case the idea gets approved by other members. And if it doesn't, at least I'll have a good start for Star Ocean Forever (the site I was intending on creating before I found you guys).

Well thanks for helping advertise.

As for a potential Zetaboards upgrade. At the moment it would mainly offer more admin/mod abilities, e-mail topic subscription options and removing the second ad on the index page. It wouldn't really look any different, but we can achieve a different look by adding more themes.

While handy, none of which really offer that much more to be honest, I've said to Zetaboards a few times that they really need to offer more for it to truly be a Premium service. If it was better I'd consider it, but not now.

That's fine. I recently bought out ekichigames.com to transfer from my primary account. I'm also doing that so I know exactly what is shared, and it seems its the same way as I said. Shared CP, but unlimited everything otherwise it looks like.

My whole game design team thing is getting a real make-over.

I'm ready to buy out staroceanuniverse.com whenever you're ready and I will continue to advertise via my forums, youtube, and other places I'm on so we can get more SOU members. Not many Star ocean fans I know of, sadly.

Well just a few things first.

1) If things don't work out on the new host, you can just change the domain name and use it for anything else you wish, right? Knowing that will just alleviate some stress if we can't get used to the host, hopefully we can but just so we aren't putting you out I'd like that blanket I guess.

2) So we'd have secondary access to the SOU section right? So things we do can't stuff up your other site? There will no doubt be a learning curve for Quark and I to start with, and some time and experimentation will no doubt be required.

3) I think the host also has ads on the pages doesn't it? Funny that even the Webs upgrade is ad free, it sucks to pay for a host and still have google ads. >.<

Anyway, basically I'd like to know it can be reversible so we don't risk putting you out, and just be aware it may take some time to get the setup right for the site. I also want to know what Quark thinks of the idea as well since he has helped me with this for so long.

I'm interested, but those are my concerns at the moment.

1.) I can delete it to my hearts content. It's only 10$ for god's sake. Haha. $10 a year. I'd just delete it and put up StarOceanForever (the site I was going to end up creating anyhow).

2.) You'd have full access to the CP. I trust you guys enough. Theres specific folders and everything for the different domains but they all have the same CP I think, so you don't really have to mess with the other stuff if you don't want to. It will take some getting used to, but it's powerful tools at the end. I'm willing to help and learn what I can.

3.) No, the host doesn't have ads on the page. Your website will be ad free, unless of course, you wish to host ads.

If you don't want to have the whole webpage deal with no ads and better CP (more powerful tools) from the new domain, I could just buy out a name for you guys and link it to your webs.com possibly. I still think transferring would be a bit more resourceful, but it is ultimately up to you guys. I'm going to help out either way.

Yeah, you know what maybe we should just try this, Quark is interested.

It will take a while to get started, there is much to get used to. But if you are willing to endure a long start it could well be worth it in the end. More help with yourself, and a host with better resources can potentially make SOU a much better place in the longer term.

I don't know much about it myself, but I'm sure as heck going to learn everything I can. If all we're doing is mainly webpages (and not things like actually attaching forums *I mean we're just going to link this one instead so no hassle with creating mysql extras or subdomains for it yet*), then it should be fairly easy. They have a site builder built into the host with HTML/CSS and flash support or whatever. I'm not too familiar with that, but I know some people who are.

I'll go buy it out and bring you guys the link, PM you access codes and whatnot. Let's get this show started!

I'm so excited I can barely contain myself. I feel like such a nerd.

EDIT: staroceanuniverse.com is ours!

Okay I think I have found the separate folders for sou on the account, but it won't let me link there. I will be testing out some things, of course, so bear with me and anything I find out I will post here.

Also, since Fayt must move on with his life, I'd be more than happy to help with the boards for whomever wishes to remain. I have over 10 years of foruming knowledge and have run many successful forums myself. Many of my friends will be joining now that I had bought out the SOU website name, and my brother joined last night to help out. I've also been getting into contact with some old SO fans from various boards to see if they are still interested in the series. Perhaps some of them will swing over this direction. Jibril and Vesper will most likely join me in the near future (two of my Wise Men buddies). Vesper has forum administration knowledge just like I do, and Jibril used to have her own website. I hope we make them feel welcomed here.

If anyone wants to help me realize Fayt's dream, just say the word. I'm sure even though he must go, he'd like to see this place grow to what it was meant to be. I'm really honestly willing to help.

I'll continue to hang around here regaurdless with my friends and incoming Star Ocean fans. Star Ocean has changed our lives and brought us together, so I owe it to the series and to Fayt (because face it, it takes undeniable large amounts of ambition to want to start up something like this) to make this thing work. I won't fall short, I promise.

Anybody backing me up with this one? Haha.

I will!

My post seems so short compared to the other ones in this topic, and there's nothing I can really add without saying stuff that's been mentioned multiple times before. Well, I guess it's just as good to have some place I can refer to that shows I'm all for this idea? :)

Oh thanks!

I need someone to eventually help me look into the CP over at bluehost.com. The faster we can figure out how to set up a page the better. We could begin filling it immediately with the information I have.

I may get Tsurugi or Dragon to help me with it, possibly. They are flash and html coders so it'd be nice to have their assistance. I'll send them PMs via EkIchi boards and see if they'll at least find out how to keep pages separated, then we can start building it up. Tsurugi knows how to merge a blogger onto the mainpage, so we can simply go edit to make a news update. So that will be helpful.
