Hmm, I don't remember that "Spider Guy" in particular, does one of your mages have Fire Storm at that point? If they do I find it pretty handy to use them and have them attack first as it sends the enemy off the ground, and off guard allowing you to more easily get powerful hits in on the enemy. Also, I'm hoping your getting used to learning/linking skills and using the ones you have to get a little boost in battle as well, if not that's something to look into too.
