Albel Nox![]() Japanese Version Name: Arbel Nox Race: Elicoorian Height: 6’1” Weight: 141 lbs Age: 24 Weapon: Katana & Gauntlet/Claw Starting Level: 24 Background: Albel is the leader of the Black Brigade, one of the three powerful arms at the Airyglyth disposal of Elicoor. At an early age he lost him arm due to a Dragon attack where his father saved him from death, hence the Gauntlet/Claw arm. Even with one useful arm he is still a highly competent swordsman. Personality: He calls himself "Albel the Wicked", overconfident, arrogant & ruthless. Although one of the greatest swordsman in the land its no surprise he is extremely confident in his own abilities. He is often quick to dismiss his enemies and at times underestimate them, regularly degrading them with comments like “Maggot” or “Worms”. Recruitment info: He is also one of the four characters you don’t need to have in your final party, and may be one of three that will perform a rescue action later in the game. Even if he does not he will still be recruitable if you firstly deny Peppita the opportunity to join early on disk 2. Then later see him nearby where you once battled with Crosell, defeat him while you still have a spot remaining and you will be the opportunity to have him rejoin you. Battle Information: Albel can learn only Battle Skills, well only by level ups that is. He can learn Symbology only by the use of either “Common Attack Symbols” & “Common Support Symbols”; refer to the list below for what unique battle skills he will learn, when and an evaluation of them. Note: Base cost is the skill cost if used as a minor skill; it varies by both the level of the attack and the characters maximum HP for Major Attacks. The Base Cost purpose is for a guide to fury consumption use and whether it consumes HP or MP to perform. Battle Skills Summary: Name: Air Slash CP Cost: 2 Learned: Starts with it Range: N/A, can be performed from anywhere. Base Cost: 20 HP/10 Fury Function: Sends a shockwave at the enemy. Hold the attack button down to initiate. Evaluation: Claude players will recognise this immediately, the good old Air Slash it back, the benefit here being it can be cancel chained. Air Slash after Air Slash from afar with its low CP Cost of 2 is very manageable and reasonably successful in dealing long range HP damage, just unfortunately has a Wind element which means it cannot work all the time. Rating: 6.5/10 Name: Shockwave Swirl CP Cost: 2 Learned: Starts with it Range: Short Base Cost: 20 HP/20 Fury Function: Generates a shockwave around him. Hold the attack button down to initiate. Evaluation: Creates a high diameter around him, can also be cancel chained. Although of no real significant power and having no MP damage I’d say will put it low on the priority list for Albel Rating: 2/10 Name: Palm of Destruction CP Cost: 4 Learned: Lv 26 Range: Short/Medium Base Cost: 25 HP/20 Fury Function: Emits a blast of energy from the palm of his artificial arm. Hold the attack button down to initiate. Evaluation: Easily one of Albels most effective attacks, performs a reasonable range fast attack that hits hard knocking the opponent down and dealing both HP & MP damage, on the end of a cancel chain it can be quiet deadly and safe to perform. Rating: 8.5/10 Name: Aura Wall CP Cost: 6 Learned: Lv 32 Range: Short Base Cost: 50 HP/25 Fury Function: Projects an aura from his arm to create a wall of force. Hold the attack button down to initiate. Evaluation: This creates an effective barrier in front of Albel for a limited time, those that walk into it will take MP damage, and may possibly get confused. Difficult to manage but can offer some great MP damage Rating: 6/10 Name: Double Slash CP Cost: 6 Learned: Lv 35 Range: Short Base Cost: 20 HP/20 Fury Function: A two step move, slicing up and down. Hold the attack button down to initiate Evaluation: Two fast and powerful slashes at your nearby enemies. Offers decent HP damage, which can also be in cancel chains. Although for its cost of 6 CP it’s tough to fit in Rating: 5.5/10 Name: Vampiric Flash CP Cost: 6 Learned: Lv 40 Range: Short Base Cost: 500 MP/20 Fury Function: Absorbs the HP of enemies within a limited area. Hold the attack button down to initiate. Evaluation: Creates a small aura around Albel that can drain enemies HP, can be held onto for the cost of Fury. Although it’s high CP cost and particularly its high MP doesn’t really make it worth the trouble. Rating: 3/10 Name: Hand of Doom CP Cost: 5 Learned: Lv 45 Range: Short Base Cost: 120 HP/25 Fury Function: Slices and dices the enemy with an aura emanating from his palm. Hold the attack button down to initiate. Evaluation: Creates a burst of HP & MP attacks, excellent to chain together to really amplify damage Rating: 8.5/10 Name: Dragon Roar CP Cost: 7 Learned: Lv 50 Range: Short Base Cost: 150 HP/30 Fury Function: Attacks with a dragon embodying the lust for battle. Hold the attack button down to initiate Evaluation: This summons a number of dragons to attack a large area in front of him, causes both HP & MP damage. Quite a damaging attack, something you’d almost expect Ashton to do really. Rating: 7/10 Name: Air Slash of Fury CP Cost: 6 Learned: Item Requirement: Unwieldy Folio, level 6 of the Maze of Tribulations. Range: N/A, can be performed from anywhere. Base Cost: 600 HP/20 Fury Function: A mad dance of air slash attacks. Hold the attack button down to initiate. Evaluation: Similar to the standard Air Slash, although thankfully no longer has a Wind element and can add a little MP damage. This time repetitively press the button to active more Air Slashes for the cost of Fury Rating: 7/10 Name: Double Slash of Fury CP Cost: 6 Learned: Item Requirement: Large Folio, level 135 of Sphere 211. Range: Base Cost: 10 HP/20 Fury Function: A mad dance of double slash attacks. Hold the attack button down to initiate. Evaluation: It’s nothing more then Double Slash in a form that can be re-activated by continuously button presses for the cost of fury. Although its close range nature and lack of MP and the fact it can knock the enemy down makes it tough to maximise its average attacks. I’d vote it for one of the worst of the post game skills. Rating: 3.5/10 Learning Chart This chart covers every skill Albel can learn by level order; bar the ones every character can learn via items.
![]() Battle Overview: Albel is one of that characters that you may love immediately, due to his confident personality, or at the same time one you may simply hate him from the word go. In battle he offers a number of attacks with great speed, an unconventional style and great range for a sword user. His Long range major attack has him charging it with his sword slashing back and forwards, looks pretty deadly. And his close/medium minor attack has him creating a useful slash that moves toward the enemy like the wind, making it safe to perform. However armour wise he loses out a bit, in fact he cannot use the standard male armour like Fayt, Cliff & Roger, and they are of the best DEF. He also learns SP far slower then the other characters. I also find that for a melee style guy he lacks quality options in hard hitting combos (Outside Hand of Doom). Although he makes up for it with some nice MP attacks as well as great range ones. If you really love melee fighters you’ll definitely find a spot for him. Suggested Skill Sets Range of Destruction Sm: Charge Lm: Air Slash SM: Palm of Destruction LM: Air Slash S1: First Aid S2: Critical Hit MP With this combination you can utilise Albels great range attacks. From afar you can chain Air Slash after Air Slash, creating very safe reasonable damage HP attacks. At close range you can Charge into a Palm of Destruction for greater power. It also allows you to use the rarer Critical Hit MP, which will boost the Palm of Destruction at times, and of course First Aid is a great source for additional health in some grave situations. Palms of Doom Sm: Hand of Doom Lm: (Empty) SM: Hand of Doom LM: Stun/Increase HP/MP S1: First Aid S2: Critical Hit MP With this setup you can link what I believe is his best chain style attack. Hand of Doom offers many hits with excellent HP & MP damage, very simple attack to chain. Having Stun/Increase HP/MP to LM can be really useful as with Albel he chases the enemy swinging with it until he hits, so nice to support it with a skill like Stun etc. Critical Hit MP really boosts Albels MP hitting attacks, and again it leaves 1 CP left for First Aid. Note that the battle skill evaluations are based on my own thoughts and experiences with the game, I'm sure not everyone will agree with my ratings; feel free to post your own assessments of these abilities or any other comments relating to Albel. |
